This man understand this music better than anyone. his vision is so original and at the same time so true. His understanding of the opening chorus is just so moving and interesting.

45:25 "Forgiving someone who's asking to be forgiven" -- In the gospel, Jesus forgives them "for they don't know what they are doing" but they didn't ask Him for forgiveness. Are we "off the hook" to forgive someone if they don't ask us to forgive them? He wasn't.

When did Judas ask for forgiveness?

You are right. He doesnt say the words "forgive me". The text says "he repented." (What all the words are that he might have used we arent told.) We know He says " I have sinned." It seems to me that if someone repents and acknowledges their sin, they are asking and hoping for forgiveness and absolution of the sin. And the thing is, he cant forgive himself.

@@gjford1951 Thank you for your reply. The choice of words used to report Judas' reaction is interesting, as the NIV, NLT, HCSB, NKJV, & NASB all use the term "remorse" while the KJV says "repented himself." In the German Luther Bible, the word used is "GEreute", meaning regretted. The German word for repented is "BEreute", a bit different so the overwhelming majority of translations, including the Luther Bible, use the word for regret or remorse. If Judas had repented of his sin in betraying Jesus, he would have gone to Jesus Himself or at least have cried out to God for forgiveness as Peter did. Judas took a fleshly approach to solving a spiritual problem. Whether or not he could have brought himself to forgive himself is secondary to asking God for mercy. Sometimes we don't feel forgiven or don't feel we deserve forgiveness. But God has the authority to forgive sin and it's to Him one needs to go.
