Twenty years ago my wife, who is a screenwriter, took me to a lecture given by Ray Bradbury. He was charming as well as magnetic and he encouraged any of us with a story in our minds to write it. I took his urging to heart and wrote a short story titled "Cheating Satan" which I then mailed to him. He actually took the time to read it and sent me a signed note saying "I like it!" What a wonderful and gracious person he was, and I'll always cherish his note.

Yesterday was the day we lost this man. I felt the earth shake as the last of the giants of science fiction fell. The earth is a lot emptier now, but we have his stories. And hopefully they will live forever.

Crazy as it is, Bradbury died on my birthday; celebrating one of my favorite authors will now be all the more memorable. His stories will live forever and I'm sure there are those unpublished stories which will eventually see the light of day. I felt uneasy and foggy on the night of Bradbury's death, not at all my usual self; perhaps the impact of his death reverberated on the souls of those he touched as profoundly as my own. The man left a wealth of his words by which to be remembered.

Ray Bradbury is my favorite author of all-time. He writes and he speaks so metaphorically and in a theme, it's just so great I can't even explain it! God bless Ray Bradbury and his work.

Such a gentle, life-loving, affable soul is Bradbury and I cannot express enough how much I hope to see him become the first human being in history to live forever. To lose the fresh, inspirational, articulate, poetic talent that he has blessed the world with in the form of storytelling will make for one incredibly sorrowful day. What a joy of a man. In my life, I hope to achieve even a fraction the kind of optimism and youthfully exuberant spirit which he has imparted to his readers.

(Skip this comment if you have not watched this interview; here be spoilers) His final anecdote here, about The David Frost Show in 1969, was incredible when you think about it. They had pop singers on TV that evening?! It boggles the mind. One of the greatest days in human history, and an English fop has to croon "Please Release Me" or some other sappy tune. Preposterous. Mr. Bradbury is something special. This was really enjoyable. He may not always stay on track, but I love the ride on this train.

My favourite author. I've probably read Dandelion Wine more than any other book. To be honest, every story of his that I've read (and I've read a lot) has been worthwhile.

I agree with what he's saying about fragmented thinking. I can barely stand to watch old b&w movies because they're so slow moving. It's pretty well impossible to avoid technology in this day and age though, unless we want to fall behind.

"... have a pretty good life..." Yeah, not if you're dead broke. Ray was persistent and it paid off. That's how most writers "make it". Who can write a short story a week, though? Most people are working "regular" jobs.

I don’t know how we can make moral indictments on a games politics when it’s not even out. The game is literally a post apocalypse showing how wrong this soviet utopia has crumbled. Using in-universe imaginary to market ones game is fairly common and seeing as this is the definitely the biggest game to come out of Russia these grand marketing attempts are to be expected. “Imagine if this was a n*** themed party” well we can’t, soviet imagery is far less taboo, there are many folk nowadays that proudly say they are communists. I really don’t understand your critique of the sexualised robots, “the commodification of sex” is a common theme of sci fi. If you weren’t already against this game (and don’t get me wrong, so am I) you wouldn’t have a problem with this feature at all. As a piece of Russian media that will benefit (even in some small way) their side of the war financially I am totally against buying this game. But that doesn’t make the game itself immoral and making these grand judgements about a piece of art that’s not even been released.
