A Couple NS Freight Trains In Mifflin, Pennsylvania

A short double stack intermodal train and a mixed manifest freight train run in each direction past the old Mifflin Station on a dreary, rainy day in Pennsylvania. Locomotives: NS 9513(GE C44-9W) & NS 9662(GE C44-9W) and NS 7237(EMD SD70ACU Ex- UP), NS 9952(GE C44-9W), & NS 7700(GE ES40DC).

Nice catch on the General freight. A high proportion of box cars, I hope they contain manufactured goods ,or they’re on their way to pick up the same. Three car loads of plate steel, nice! Also, the orange rack car was interesting. You really get around; thanks for your time in showing!

Nice, thanks. A couple of interesting details. The marking on the rail. I'm surprised that it said 1976, since you'd expect that NS would have replaced it years ago. Also, I'd never seen a Geodetic Survey marker before. Keep the good stuff coming. As long as you're being safe, and staying at least 6 ft. from other railfans.😀

You should go to Pittsburgh and film the "train trench" in North Side Allegheny Commons Park West. Its a busy piece of track and the trains go under the park, but many spots are open and very great for filming.

Looks like a real hot spot for train watching. Even the switches are shiny. Where does the track in the foreground that bears off to the right go? I don't understand the signalling system on modern railroads. It seems they're always red, but the train keeps going anyway.

The stack train has to be one of the greatest innovations of rail transport, but why have empty well cars in the middle of the train. Never seen a station with a 275 gallon oil tank out front! , must have oil heat. You take care to choose where you place your camera; it adds interest. Thanks for showing!

That "Abandoned Building" is an old railroad station. Probably from the Pennsylvania Railroad era.
