I'm a proud member of the wiggler squad, but using SnS and Lance depending on the monster. Monster is diablos, tigrex, anything that's too dumb to do anything but straight up attack from the front? Lance. Monster seems to be kinda smart and can shift its moveset around? Return of the king, SnS it is, baby.

Without playing monster hunter, here's what I got from this video. -sns's damage is low because it combos really well and has good defense. There's basically a triangle that says "pick 2, damage, combo & defense" and sns picked the last 2. -It gives you easier access to items and the "slinger" thing, making them actually worth using. -Is likely a high skill weapon, since it relies on item usage, inventory management and sick tricks to be effective. Basically you need to know a lot to get the most out of it I've seen most of the other crap guides and they don't mention using items, which makes me think that they aren't a strict requirement to be effective. Verdict: SnS highlights the game mechanics that make the game unique and interesting.

It is an easy weapon to use but no less invalid vs the other weapons. I recent started using the sword and shield (coming from insect glaive, charge blade, and switch axe) and the damage is there, the survivability is there and the fact that my support build can still Solo tempered monsters and help buff and heal teammates in behemoth is a beautiful thing. Not the most powerful weapon by any stretch but doesnt mean the better you get the better the weapon gets especially for creating openings for your teammates. Any weapon in MHW has the ability to be the best. Just because it is easy to use doesn't mean it couldn't be an asset :)

On the subject of being an SNS main Not sure if it’s been patched but stagger your melee pummels when mounted and you can impact damage KO any monster in the game within one mount I’d map it out so that they’re within a bash combo from being KO’d then finish the mount and as soon as they get up just melee them Then as there KO’d build up the next mount Rinse, repeat, profit. (I haven’t played in a bit, so idk if it’s still a thing)

Capcom has to buff every weapon because of how powerful the SnS was for its versatility and ungodly power. The SnS will still rein supreme. And it has gifted the other weaker weapons the ability to use slinger and some items to an extent like our lord and savior.

Word. In the live stream, everyone erupted with RIP SNS... But it's still the only one that can use items while unsheathed. So if anything, everything is back to old monster hunter balance, seeing as the slinger was only introduced this generation.

@@gladiumcaeli Nah. They have to do something drastic.... seriously, what new weapon can they even make, now? (#tonfasfrommhfggplease) Unfortunately, the tonfas have so many goddamned options, you probably need a keyboard to use em. Anyway, SnS can be very good, but regardless of what you say, feel or think, it's NOT a power weapon. Even using the appropriate elements/statuses, the attacks aren't as fast as DBs, the damage numbers are lower middle at best, and the shield protection needs just as much as a Lance or Gunlance to be useful to counter rather than being pushed back. It's a great weapon and can be lots of fun, but don't fool yourself into thinking a god-tier SnS user is anywhere near the same time zip code as a god-tier user of anything else. Even a Hunting Horn, with very strange variance in damage, requires 80x more skill to solo what an SnS can. Sorry.... but in the grand scheme of a boner battle (if this is what it must be), SnS is quite weak. It's too safe, to weak, and the specializations don't yield much surprise or fun.

Y'know, I got monster hunter world like a week ago. I remembered watching this series years ago, and that you praised the shit out of the sword and shield. I went into training to try out all the weapons, took a few swings with the sword and shield, and said "fuck this shit." before going to main the insect glaive... but there was just one problem... the insect glaive was so... repetitive. Leaping into the air and doing some flashy spins was cool, but it was all I ever did. I found myself seeking out new weapons types, re-trying things. I liked the switch axe, and the charge blade was pretty rad. Hell I even considered the long blade. But... eventually... I finally came back to the sword and shield, and by god, I fell in love. This is the best fucking weapon, you can't tell me otherwise. Yeah, long blade helmsplitter is cool, but it's kinda cinge. You know what's better? Slamming your shield down into a monster's skull and KOing them. Yeah, the mobility and utility of the insect glaive is pretty cool, but y'know what's better? Placing traps non stop, then running up and clinging onto a monster's body and beating the shit out of their face. Sword and Shield is yes.

SnS is life. It’s also got what I consider to be one of the coolest moves in the game, SnS helmsplitter. Advancing slash into a runnable wall and you’ll run up, jump off and drive your sword down. Chance to mount but it’s even cooler if it doesn’t cause it hits multiple times on the way down and looks rad as hell. Also the generous i-frames you get while back hopping with SnS makes dodging and immediately getting back into action so comfy.

Sword and Shield is how I start every monster hunt. If the monster is a type that hangs out of sword range like a cowardly bitch, i will go to bow or insect glaive. But in multiplayer hunts? I'm a Baan Hammer main. Night night!

5 years later. I started with World, you and NCH's videos are how I realized there was a community for these games. I've since gone back and played every one, put at least 4k hours into the series as a whole, even hosting my own Frontier server. In my heart I'm still an HH main, but you better believe this video is why SnS is always my #2 most used on every guild card. I wanted to use the sword and shield but I wasn't convinced til I saw this as soon as I got this weapon on my hand I could feel the power of god himself and killed 3 BEHEMOTHS AT THE SAME TIME when I finished I couldn't stop convulsating with multiple orgasms truly the weapon for gods 10/10 will be my main from now on

I've been maining sword and shield for years, and it's always been my favorite weapon and style. However, due to multiplayer, even with my local group of friends never really made me feel welcome playing with it, so I've always solo'd with my trusty sword and shield and my trusty Palico. This video made me proud to be an SnS main and thank you for that. I got the confidence to play my first online match a couple days ago and more or less wrecked house with my Stun Lock build

I use hunting horn, then buff the ever loving sh*t out of my sns pal. Ya know how powerful stunlocks can be, then imagine an impact + a blade walloping a monster to death while it screes on the ground helpless

@monkey man I don't "hate" LS, I've used it about 200 times, but it can be the most annoying weapon to other hunters due to VERY large swings in every direction that make them trip. I prefer SnS.

I just love the evolution of this channel, watching it suddenly grow from 100 to 1000 in just a couple of these videos then hit 12k, and after 2 years (almost 3) about to reach 1 million, dont let anyone discourage you Jocat, you deserve every one of those subscribers, and I do hope you make 1 million by the end of the year, now I do have 1 question, but with the fact of knowing people have asked it a shit ton, I'll just wait to see if my question will be answered on it's own, keep being you, keep being awesome

"Congalala's shitload of an item box...!" most Monster-similes and metaphors make me cackle, but this one made me wheeze. BRILLIANT. To be honest, I nearly picked this weapon up as my main when I first jumped on the MH bandwagon. But I saw it and saw it compared to the others and though "but it's so tiny!" and "that paper plate on my left arm isn't going to block anything!". But you sir, have shown me the light. Sometimes, like the mighty Konchu, can the smallest of the group be the most daunting. I bow to your screeching Rajang-tier violence you can create with what I always assumed was a second hunting knife and a spare plate if you wanted to eat your well-done steaks with utensils.

So, I know this is super late, but I just watched this series a while ago and I was fighting elder dragons for the first time. I popped an SOS flare during the fight with Teostra and a guy with the sword and shield joined in. I went "Oh, neat." to myself and didn't think much of it. Then we started fighting and oh my god it was ridiculous. My health never went below half with all the healing he was doing and I constantly had attack and defense buffs. I honestly never had an easier fight in the game. And this was in addition to the fact that he was constantly fighting. SnS feels like it's the BEST support weapon if you have the skill that makes your self target items aoe effect allies.

I just had to revisit this since Rise is coming out. I have been a genuine Sword and Shield main in literally every game but 4 Ultimate. This entire series is a masterpiece in its own right and I can't wait to see what kind of stuff you can come up with with new games and scenarios. Rock on JoCat.
