Video idea: After crocheting for 20 years I finally picked up knitting needles. Throwing the yarn was awkward and made me want to quit. Like everything else, I went to KZfaq and found 2 videos teaching crocheters how to knit. I can see tons of value in teaching us how.

There's lots of methods for knitting. You might try continental or English flicking. I'm an English thrower...unfortunately I have little child-sized hands and I can't get a good grip on my needles while holding my yarn in position to pick for flicking/continental without my fingers cramping really quickly. But throwing is fine for me, if a bit inefficient.

@@fuzzypumpkin7743 Hi, idk If there are some but maybe you could find round needles that have a short body but normal/long cable(?)
@fuzzypumpkin7743
@fuzzypumpkin7743 Жыл бұрын
@@woolwitch Knitting needles are usually round? I think you mean circs. I only use circs. Short tips are actually really awful for me as they hit me in the middle of the palm. It has nothing to do with the needle length/body and everything to do with the position my short little fingers have to be in to hold the yarn + have any grip on the needles. It's a reason, though, not a problem that needs to be solved.

Proudest thing I made was a really nice fidget mat. I made them for PTSD veterans and I finally made up my own design that was a mix of soothing to look at, weighted on the lap, and a lot of items to either feel or use. I did an alternating wavy pattern that I used the 'third stitch' of a half crochet to make the top of the stitches stick out like a water wave, and then added a ship, cloud, fish, sun, and birds made of buttons and zippers and bobbles to work with. The ship sail is a textured triangle with buttons to unclasp it and re attach. Then the back is like a big pocket to put hands into but also give it lots of anchoring weight. All the colors are soothing and warm and I'm so pleased I was able to combine a couple different needs into one piece.

Just wanted to second that I'd love to see this if you could share somehow! I'm actually in the middle of trying to make my first (ish) design, which I'm calling my texture sweater because I just loooove textures and figure this is the reason I picked up yarn crafts in the first place (to make things according to my needs/creativity, and to touch lovely, soothing things :) )

What is is a fidget mat?
@nattcattt
@nattcattt Жыл бұрын
@@sreece0928 a mat that has different tactile activities for your hands to fidget with when you feel anxious or triggered by PTSD. For some people it can be very grounding especially if you deal with flashbacks and also can help prevent people from doing harmful things to their own bodies such as skin picking. For me it would be helpful to keep my hands busy because otherwise I pick my nails and the skin around them and make myself bleed.

I felt the sweater talk so hard! I made a thick winter sweater for my daughter when she was 2 and she still fits in it really well a year later. She really loves it with her whole heart and asks to wear it even in the heat of summer. Every time she wears it, she gives herself a big hug and smiles so big. When people compliment the sweater, she tells them “mama made it” 🥺 it is the sweetest confidence boost and it is my proudest project. I made another for her once she grows out of the current one but I would never try to attempt it for myself out of fear of shattering my self confidence. ❤ I needed this talk though and in 2023, I’m going to make myself a sweater

It makes me feel so good to see you succeed at making a sweater! I'm a beginner crafter and I admire your hard work and talent. So it really surprised me that *you* felt intimidated by sweaters. It reaffirmed for me that being a lifelong learner is wonderful; that even the people we look up to have a lot left to learn and that I can do anything I set my mind to. My crafter's resolution for 2023 is to grow my skills until I too can make my very first crochet sweater!

In January I started a simple afghan with the intentions of making one for each of my kids. In March I was diagnosed with breast cancer and all the complications that go along with that. I had surgery on April 1 finished chemo the last week of August and radiation the first week of October. At working all day, I didn't feel like picking up a crochet hook at all. I just finished that Afghan in November. So I'm very proud of that again and the 7 beanies I have finished since. I love your channel and your encouraging ways. Happy New Year!

Take up knitting! I crocheted for twenty years, tried to learn knitting three times from classes at Joann and failed every time. The first week KZfaq was live, I found a video that showed how it worked. I still didn’t get it, so I went to sleep, woke up at 3am because I had a dream that was so vivid- I could see myself knitting and purling easily! Picked up the needles, and haven’t stopped since (20+ years!) You’ll love it!

I also crocheted a sweater for myself for the first time this year! It's a heathered forest green color, also with full sleeves, and I absolutely LOVE it!! I made it in time for Thanksgiving and proudly wore it for family dinner. I was shocked at how beautifully it fit, and that I could try it on in stages and make it perfect for me. It was a transformative project. I immediately then crocheted myself a vest, and then a pair of socks. From accessories to true wearables has been a profound revelation, and I am definitely going to be making more clothes for myself: summer tops, a skirt, maybe even a dress. I am smiling and sharing in your joy!

Love the creative energy for the temperature blanket! Instead of making mine for the current year, I made it for the (historical) year starting on the day I met my husband and gifted it to him for our anniversary 🥰 It was also super nice because I could mock the whole thing up based on the colors I wanted in advance and tweak it. (I chose to do it based on the weather, not the temperature, and did mini granny squares.) Wishing you good health and happy memories made in your new home in 2023!

Ms Toni I have enjoyed your videos all year!! It's officially been one full year of knowing how to crochet for me, and I'm so happy. I learned how to make granny squares just the other day, a concept I just couldn't wrap my head around! I'm a left handed crocheter so I've spent a lot of time perfecting the simple stitches, so most of my items are made with sc, hdc and dc... but I love them. My biggest and proudest make of this year was a giant blanket for my cousin who just graduated and became a doctor so I made her a big blanket with two strands of baby yarn (never again) in her favorite colour. It took forever, and I was literally down to the wire on December 23rd to finish it to give it to her on Christmas Eve. I've learned a lot from that project alone - the importance of pacing myself, and the importance of support stretches and compression gloves... as well as not pushing myself to finish something if I'm going to hurt myself!! Crochet gave me something good to focus on in 2022, so I'm really pleased to head into 2023 with more experience under my belt and hopefully make some wearables I'll actually wear. I've made a couple sweaters already but they are Not Good... But your Rhinebeck sweater is so gorgeous I might just have to give it a try. :3 Thanks for everything you do, Ms Toni!

Hi Toni I just want to say I am so thankful I found you on KZfaq because you have given me such a great talent, I started looking for things to learn and came across your videos and I have had such a joy with Tunisian crochet I'm about 5 1/2 inches in and am already looking to give my first creation to my sister because it's bright pink lol. Thanks for all the videos and podcasts you have done I love watching them and congratulations on your 500k your doing amazing.

I began my first crochet sweater when you posted about the Rhineback sweater you crocheted. I made it for one of my besties and love it so much! I actually had a bunch of dollar store yarn but it was so soft and really great to work with that I had to get more after coming home from school to finish this sweater. It was a challenge but I'm glad I tried it out after seeing you crochet one.

This video was so enjoyable. Thank you for your warm, fun energy. My favorite project for 2022 - I painted my deck fence with a flower garden. Now it's surrounded by snow and making me happy everyday.

Merry Christmas Toni! I know it has to be a different vibe being able to just go to your mom's house for Christmas and right back home after a day of festivities with the family! I can't wait to see a tutorial for your gumball sweater! Lol I also have that book you showed! I follow that maker as well, I love her sweater designs because of her size inclusivity. Enjoy the rest of the holidays and we will see you when we see you! Wishing all of you, peace 🕊️, love 💕 and Light 🕯️🕯️🕯️.

I just started teaching myself how to crochet. It has been an amazing endeavor. I went looking for videos that slow it down for me and came across your channel. Now, even though some words you say don't make sense to me, I'm sure they will as I learn. First and most importantly, you have the most warmest, kindest smile I have seen in a long time. I love seeing a friendly face and with you having fun here, you are enjoyable to watch. Congratulations on your new home!! That is super exciting. One day I want to be half as an amazing crocheter as you are. Thank you for making these videos! I will be digging through more.

This year I made Lion Brand's Tree of Life Afghan pattern, only modified to be a full length blanket in Heartland by LB. It was a pattern my mom started making for herself after my brother and I were born. She made everyone in our family a personal crocheted blanket. I think life and the complexity of the pattern got in the way, so it's never been finished. It made it even more special this year because my mom had a stroke in the middle of the time frame I made it. I feel very lucky to have her with me to still use the blanket. It ended up using 3,100+ yards with a single crochet base. It really pushed me and my skills to a new level, and it means a lot to know my mom knows how much I put into this for her.

What beautiful projects you have! We're 2 weeks into 2023 and I wanted to do a temperature blanket. Thanks for showing me I better stick with single crochet and keep it super simple, lol! But yours is beautiful! I like the idea of special years too. I recently found your channel and look forward to learning so much from you! I'm most proud of the charity hats I did 2 different times of the year, sure because blessing recipients but also because I was in crunch time mode both times :)

This is so super inspiring. I LOVE your giant poofy scarf!y big project for the last couple of years has been a couch blanket that is ginormous. Like California King size giant. We have 3 kids plus us and some close family. When we have everyone watching something together the goal is to have enough blanket to cover everyone enough so there are no arguments or cold toes. February will be two years since I started it but since each row is 320 double crochet stitches (and I need to sometimes put it down for a while bc life gets interesting), I consider it being just over half done to be a win. I have learned so much about tension, how to have proper technique so I don't agitate my carpel tunnel and tendonitis, how to take breaks and take care of myself and, most importantly, to love the imperfections and mistakes. Someday, maybe when I am long gone, there could be a descendant that sits covered with this blanket and plays around with some of my tied off ends or accidental tiny knots while they watch cartoons. That makes me smile bc no other blanket in the world will have those imperfections in it and they are being placed there by my hands. There is something really special about living into the future in that way.

Toni, I personally want to thank you for all your inspiration. You put me back on the road of crochet after learning way back when I was a teenager but had not used it at all. I found your videos one time when I was strolling through you tube. You have taught me to Tunisian crochet also. I have your book and I have made several of your patterns. Thank you so much for all your inspirations. Some day I really want to be a maker to sell and support my addiction s for yarn. I'm so proud of you as if you are my own sister. Much love to you in all your endeavors. C. Gray

I used to strictly only make scarves and house decor. I joined an MKAL with a beginner group to make a sweater with scraps. After that, I have been on a sweater KICK. I am aiming to replace/remake all my department store, synthetic fiber sweaters with nice wool. My stranded colorwork with a thermal layer means I no longer need a winter coat. I am THRILLED. I am SO GLAD that you have found this joy in your journey as well. :)

I LOVE your temperature blanket. I had never heard of them before and then I saw one of your blankets you had in progress. From there I came up with a plan. My dad is very difficult to buy for, so I took his birth year and where he was born and created his temperature blanket. I gave it to him last year for Christmas. Thank you for all of your tutorials and your excitement. You are a true inspiration. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas.

This year I freestyled a project for the first time! I wanted to make a dress for a Build-a-Bear but couldn’t find a pattern for worsted weight yarn. I finally found a pattern on Ravelry that I thought I could adapt, even though it was in a 2 weight. There was a lot of frogging, but I did it! Watching Toni make her Rhinebeck sweater provided a lot of inspiration!

C2C is my go to mindless project! I love the repetition and the speed of it. Honestly my most proud project is my Loveland shawl! It was one of the first times I bought 'fancy' yarn (ie hand dyed lol) with a specific pattern in mind. Most of the time I purchase on the "oo pretty!" mind set. It was so satisfying to see the colors work and play together just the way I imagined!

Thank you for your inspiration 😇. I’m an occasional crochet person 😞. After watching you and ordering your book, I have learned that my first try at a pattern is just that, a test run. I get better each time. I look forward to watching you in 2023. In the meantime I want to try some of the wraps/scarfs you did this year. Blessings 😇😇😇
