Welcome to Lowleigh. After an introduction to the branchline and the station, the video depicts all of the trains that call at the wayside passing station on a typical summer's day in 1957 when railways still served their local communities. Lowleigh is situated about halfway down the fictitious branch which runs between Kidderminster and Brombury in Worcestershire. The model is to the scale of 4mm:foot, track gauge '00'. This is the first of several planned videos depicting the trains which serve the station; please look out for future episodes. If you would like to know more about the model, 'Lowleigh' was featured in MRJ numbers 241 & 242 and the second article about traffic on the branch is scheduled for publication in the near future in Railway Modeller. I hope that you will be able to make a contribution to the Railway Children Charity which 'fights for street children in Africa, India and in the UK'

Absolutely delightful, and most relaxing - perhaps even therapeutic - to watch. Well-modelled, and well-filmed. I could almost feel the sunshine. I'm a Southern Region fan, 1960s to 1972, but the Great Western, and, especially, its branch lines, has a unique charm and character that cannot be ignored.

A very life like model railway which is a joy to watch and captures the good old days of a 1957 steam railway to perfection . Excellent camera work and narration with the trains running to a timetable adds more realism to the scenes , well done .

Thank you for your kind words Martin. The Watermill by Ronald Binge is a favourite of mine though I wonder if the idyllic image it evokes is actually a bit over-sentimental - I remember BR in the '50s - mucky carriages, slow, often late -running trains etc - happy days! Just came across this today, and what a thoroughly enjoyable lunch I had watching this! In my opinion this depiction of a rural railway is much more important and educational than preserved lines as it shows how humdrum life really was in a railway 'backwater'. Your little railway is a real delight - I'm in process of building a similar type of layout - but Essex based. Thank you.

Thanks for appreciating the intention of the layout Phil. My boyhood platform days in the '50s were at Newcastle Central - 'streaks', A3/2/1s, V2s/B1s/J27s/Q6s/j72s/V3s - need a bigger loft and a bigger wallet for that! Hi Peter, Just came across finding your wonderful 'Day at Lowleigh Station'. A fine detailed masterpiece ! And your video is most enjoyable and nicely narrated too. It's amazing how you 'captured' the peace and calm of country life in those days gone by. It's like lost paradise. For now we have the 'quantity but lost the quality'. Less was more compared to what we 'spill' nowadays. Your Railway brings back nostalgia. I've set my railway in 1955 - for similar reasons... Thanks for sharing your art work and the feelings that stimulate real life ! Greetings from France & happy railroading ! Filip

Thanks Chris that's much appreciated. I do try to build all aspects of the model to a consistent standard (though I wish I could aspire to Pendon standards) and avoid video shots that show above the backboard. I'd be interested to know whether you think the relative absence of little people is a positive or a negative thing? There are however many things I'm not happy with so am planning something similar to Lowleigh but in EM as my next project. With best wishes, Peter

@@peterharrison6230 Hi Peter. I wouldn't worry too much about the standard of Pendon. Your modelling is superb and it sets the standards bar very high indeed. As for the lack of people, I must admit that I didn't really notice at first. Personally I was drawn to detail and the overall appearance as a whole (looking at the bigger picture I think is the term) and the highly believable representation of the real thing. All this you have achieved I'm my opinion. As for the missing people, personally I think that loco crew, a couple of station staff and maybe a workman in the yard would be sufficient. At the end of the day it's a case of your layout your rules, there is always things you could add or change and I don't believe that any layout is ever really finished. Chris.

It makes my blood boil to see 13 thumbs down for this video. Really???! Have they no appreciation for the time and effort that was put into this? Do they really dislike everything about it? Or have the disliked it because of one or two things that don't meet their approval and therefore disregarded all the other great things about it? They should be grateful that people go to the trouble of producing videos like this for our enjoyment and education. If people are so petty to dislike something and give no indication why they dislike it, its a wonder that anyone produces anything at all for our entertainment. Come on people, get a life! A dislike for some aspects of a video is no reason the give the whole thing a dislike. If you don't like something, please at least make a comment using positive criticism so that the creator can learn and improve. They at least deserve that for their efforts.

Wow this is pure beautiful give such a nice relaxing feel to it. I live in little village now but id love it to feel so beautiful as this one does. Who ever made this railway is a true artist. Im not into trains as such but love the past and the miniature world. I know the little black car is a Ford popular as my grandad still had one in 1970s and as kids we'd tease him about his rubbish car. We were so naughty lol.

Superb colour choices for all aspects of this railway. The track looks just right. Rusty rails and chairs, rainwashed ballast and bleached sleepers
@peterharrison6230
@peterharrison6230 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Martin. Good to hear your views on the track. I switched to cork ballast on my latest layout but it makes little difference to the sound level and worse it bleached to a very unrealistic light brown colour in the hot sun in July in our loft. Now fixed blinds to the windows and am painting all the ballast - not a lot of fun! Hope you enjoy the other 4 Lowleigh videos. All the best, Peter

Thanks for your kind words Frank. You are right, there are few people about. Tuckers employees are notorious for their many tea breaks and I'm afraid the Good Doctor has his eyes on the Brombury branch. There's an hourly bus service right from the centre of Lowleigh village into Kidderminster. There is a decent turn out when the diesel service is introduced in 'Day of the Diesel'. Best wishes, Peter

Simply wonderful. Utterly convincing and evocative, both in the modelling and its translation to film. If I could make one suggestion it would be now to replace the signal solenoids with programmed servos, to give that more hesitant and realistic operation.

Thanks for your kind words and the tip Rick. As it happens I'm controlling turnouts, signals and crossing gates on my new layout with a Megapoints controller and relays. It took a bit of getting my head around but nice not to have that solenoid snap! I hope you enjoy the other Lowleigh videos. Best wishes, Peter

Absolutely excellent, and just how I remember the countryside (in my case Cheshire) as a youngster. In the entire video, the only thing that attracted my eye was the slightly-too-modern font on the 'Tuckers' sign. Well done ... I was 'transported'. 😊
@peterharrison6230
@peterharrison6230 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Chris - kind words - must look into the Tuckers sign - at least it will be correct in video 35 when the station building is replaced by a bus shelter and Manchester-style trams serve the branch. The lane over the bridge by the station has been widened and a 3-lane motorway crosses the tracks. Or the station has been converted into a private dwelling and a Sustrans cycleway runs through the platforms! It's a good day for Tuckers in video 2 - business is booming, no less than 3 vans of stock is delivered. The original Tuckers was in the yard at Ashburton - the buildings are still in use which was good to see but Tuckers itself has moved out of town. Best wishes, Peter kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m9OZhKyE0snOiIk.html

@@peterharrison6230 What a horrible thought. Or even the entire railway lifted by 1970 and now just a cutting full of scrawny trees. 😢 Maybe the 'Tuckers' sign would look good as a weathered 'ghost sign' painted white-on-black directly onto the brickwork.

G`day Peter, What a super layout with great attention to detail. Love your timetable running. I notice up the top here that there are 16 dislikes........what`s wrong with these people ?.....are they emboldened by the anonymity of the internet or are they just jealous......I think the latter. Your doing a great job here.....keep up the good work. Cheers Gormo

Thanks Gormo. Your comments are much appreciated. I don't take it too seriously if people don't like the layout - you can't please everyone. Maybe I'll build something next with quadruple track mainline, 2'radius curves, trains running at 150mph minimum and Deltics double heading with Henry Oakley. Actually now I've written that it sounds like fun! The Lowleigh story continues at: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m9OZhKyE0snOiIk.html All the best, Peter
