Hey guys!
-
So as some of you all may know, my sister and I are both working students for Anita Williams. During the school year we work on the weekends and over breaks we work a few days during the week. Horses are only ridden on week days so our workload is much easier on the weekends!

I was really glad to see that when she put that dark horse's halter on she struggled too. The horse I ride always does that and it's nice to know it's not just me

Awesome video. You helped inspire me to go do my chores. Where do you live that it is so snowy. It finally is up in the high 60s in Nevada. Love seeing people working hard to earn their ride. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

A few things. First: you should really keep all the horses out in a paddock, they only sleep a few hours a day so they go insane in the stall not getting exercise. Second: horses actually don't need blankets! It may sound stupid, but wild/domesticated can live without a blanket in even the coldest conditions! Third: you probably didn't know, but you put your hand over the horses head behind his ears to keep him from bobbing it, this will help you get the halter on :) fourth: make sure the bedding isn't gonna take all the water out of your horses hoofs, it will damage and crack them. That's it! Hope some of this helps.

r w search up why your horse shouldn't have bedding in their stall :) I can assure you it isn't good for their hooves to have the moisture out, but only for certain horses. How do you think wild horses survive? They don't have a rug and they survive perfectly. Yes clipped horses need a blanket especially if they are clipped, but if they aren't they naturally grow a nice good coat to survive. Yes I completely agree, medical needs are important so stalling is good, and most horses do like stalls but they need exercise. I'm sorry I'm a idiot how?

First: although turn out is very important, a lot of horses actually prefer being in the stall. Horses can be kept warm, safe and monitored when kept in the stable overnight. You shouldn't be telling people what they should and shouldn't do based on your personal opinion. My horse is kept out 24/7 in summer but is stabled in winter - there's nothing wrong with that. Second: Horses convert food energy into heat, if you have working horses and you're asking them to be in heavy work 5x a week plus using their food energy for heat, you're going to end up with a lot of underweight horses. Sport horses tend to have thinner coats anyway and often need the extra help against the bad weather. Again - you shouldn't be telling people what they can or can't do based on your personal opinion. You don't know these horses or what they require. Something like a lightly worked highland pony can live out 24/7 with no rug quite comfortably, but a heavily worked thoroughbred will find living out with no rug will cause health issues that would easily be solved by rugging up and bringing in. I have two horses: A thoroughbred and an Irish sport horse. both in heavy work and both try to drag me back to their stables when the weather is bad! Third: If that horses responded to poll pressure don't you think she'd use that trick? Many horses hate poll pressure and therefore that trick will only cause a bigger struggle. Fourth: Would you prefer her to just leave all the crap in the stable? Bedding is there for absorbing the muck and adding comfort to the horse. Your horse will get sore feet from standing on hard surface for too long, they also need soft surface to roll - you don't see horses rolling about on concrete now do you? Horses will get turned out every day - in wet and muddy fields, often wet fields will do far more harm than a dry stable. If the horse's hooves do show signs of being dry, it is very easy to put moisturiser on them. The reason why I'm responding to this is that although you think you're helping and giving tips, all you're actually doing is telling her what she can and can't do. It also sounds like you aren't all that educated in equine care, if you were then you'd know that the lifestyle of a working sport horse differs from a feral pony. Everything that is one ofr these horses is done for their health in mind. Rugging up is for the horses health, bringing in is for the horses health, bedding is for the horses health. This girl is obviously far more educated in horses than you are - and under the instructions of someone who is highly educated in equine care. So you may think you're helping and educating, but you're just being an internet trainer and telling her what in your opinion she is doing wrong - not cool.

I've always wondered when you are mucking out a stall is there anything to do to get rid of all the pee? Some say just throw shavings on it and pick it up that way. Others say completely different things. Just wondering.
