Always trust your instincts. Glad you listened to them and didn’t go on the trip.

Hey Gracie, I wanted to share something with you. I feel like when you talk about moving in with Austin and deciding what to do later is because you are afraid of the judgement. Please don’t be. Austin clearly makes you happy and if being with him, living together is what feels right for you then don’t worry about anyone else. I moved in with my husband after three months of dating, got engaged the same weekend, married 13 months later and just celebrated 21 years of marriage. When you find the right one, just enjoy it and don’t worry what anyone else thinks!

In actuality, as a Gen Xer, I am kind of surprised how normalized moving in with one’s boyfriend is amongst Christian millennials and Gen Z-ers. I am not saying this to be cruel or judgmental, but it truly makes me wonder what the difference is between generations? Lauren Norris strikes me as more of a baby Christian than Gracie, so I didn’t question it as much, but I am just genuinely trying to understand what has changed. I got pushback from one of my youth group friends for staying with my boyfriend at his parent’s house one summer when we lived hundreds of miles apart in the ‘80s.

And I need to clarify nobody needs to worry about the opinions of other fallible human beings. I am just offering the perspective that this is a very new development amongst Christian circles. I am not clear if the church is teaching things differently now or if it is pushback on the purity movement of the ‘90s. It isn’t specifically about Gracie and her specific circumstances (she could genuinely be between places with nowhere else to live). I am just curious why the views have changed so much in the past decade or two?

@@carolinekirkpatrick3497I totally agree with you, as a Christian myself I’m surprised that both Gracie & Lauren Norris who say they are Christian’s are now living with their boyfriends. It’s definitely not what Christian’s should me doing. . I wonder if they are waiting till marriage since they are now living together ?

@@carolinekirkpatrick3497Being a good Christian, catholic, Jew is being a good person! PERIOD. The judgement is appalling and sincerely unGodly. Evolution is a real thing. Get out of the rabbit hole.

I see so much of this now that my thoughts have been that a lot of millennials and Gen Zers might not even know that living together and premarital sex are not biblical teachings. It definitely isn’t my intent to judge because I know how hard it is to be a young adult in a culture that doesn’t have 1950s values. I honestly would have never commented on it if it weren’t for the “you go, girl” comment. People who aren’t raised in the church shouldn’t be making presumptions about why this is awkward for Gracie. Perhaps she really is just between her own apartments and doesn’t want this to look bad. Lauren Norris does profess to be a Christian, but I don’t think she was raised the way Gracie was and she has confirmed that she doesn’t feel comfortable in church (or at least didn’t years ago at BAMA), so she may have no clue about things such as this. It is a tough call. I wish I could just be liked for saying anything goes and I definitely don’t intend to set myself up as God, but when people start pointing out that nobody with Gracie’s beliefs should feel uncomfortable about this; I just thought I would offer up my perspective. These are social influencers, so the weight of their actions has more influence on culture than the average person.

Gracie, I need to express to you that even though I have come off as negative on here a couple of times, that I feel there is so much positive that you offer up on here. You have a gift like no other for inspiring people to organize their lives in a way that feels sparkly and joyful. Last year, there were very hurtful things that were tied to the documentary that never got addressed. There were girls who were called out as low tier sorority members on national television against their wills. Most of that was absolutely not on you (the hardest things that were said), but I felt it was important to address how that made those girls feel. Regarding this video, it was never my plan to judge the living together thing, but when it goes as far as the people who are telling you how to feel about it don’t share your core beliefs, I felt an obligation to point out that as recently as 20 to 30 years ago, living together outside wedlock was actually quite uncommon, particularly amongst southern evangelical Christians. It wasn’t as uncommon amongst nominal Catholics up north (I have lived in the SE and the Midwest), but very uncommon in places like Alabama and Mississippi. I know Florida (have lived there) is a bit more progressive, but Bible believing Christianity isn’t different in conservative churches no matter where the location. Not saying any of this makes a person a bad person or beyond the reach of Christ’s forgiveness, but just a radical change from how things were fairly recently in Christian circles. You also are upheld as such a role model, so something to prayerfully consider. I love so much about your videos. You inspire me to clean and organize (really hard for me) and I am currently reading a book you recommended. The first book you recommended was wonderful. Much love to you!
