I'm a teacher here in Beijing and am currently off work for the next 4 weeks because of the Chinese New Year Holiday. Due to Covid, we are advised not to travel outside of Beijing, so I'm doing lots of things to keep me busy.
My day starts off with watching my neighbors do entertaining workouts in the park! The senior citizens of China have the most laid-back lives and watching them brings a big smile to my face! Then I rent a bike and cycle to the gym. Ever wondered what a high-end gym looks like in China? Well, you're going to see what $900 a year will get you!
Beijing is now considered low risk for Covid so the day-to-day restrictions have eased up. You'll see how my gym and taxis have implemented some Covid safety measures.
Life in China allows you to be cashless and you'll get to see how easy it is to use your phone for everything! A little later I go to a cute cafe where I have a snack and get some work done before heading to dinner to meet my friend.
We eat dinner at a classic Chinese restaurant that's in a mall because all the best Chinese restaurants are in malls for some reason?! My friend teaches me how to say all the dishes we order in Chinese...I think I do alright! Afterward, we have a funny conversation about my hair. Being a black woman in China always comes with countless questions about your hair, skin, family, and just everrrrrrything. In the beginning, it's frustrating but you learn to deal with it. When a Chinese friend has questions, I don't mind answering them at all!
My day ends at home, opening a package from the best website in the world: TAOBAO! That's it ya'll! I hope you enjoy watching an average day in my life in Beijing!!
