Great video! Thanks Jenn. I really enjoyed the way you showed bits of doing the actions on your cards and the grouping of cards is an effective method of organization. I break down jobs that have multiple steps into separate cards and group them, such as sort laundry, wash laundry, dry laundry, put away laundry. That way I do a step of laundry and shuffle that card and if I get interrupted, I can pick up where I left off later.

That’s so smart - especially for laundry! 🧺

I’ve been using your index cards more and more every day. I love them. I am a pen to paper planner and so I am using your index cards to replace the need for phone and to keep me on track. It’s so satisfying to shuffle the cards “when completed” (otherwise not 😂) It feels good. I started working on my own set of work reoccurring tasks, but that’s taking longer than expected. I think I am going to do a 12week year plan to improve my work and add creating the task cards as part of it😂😂 I love your content. I’d love to see more videos like this one. Thank you!!!❤

Hi Jenn, I'm struggling with your index card planning system. It's really difficult for me to know how long tasks will take. When I create the 12-week plan, I tend to be too ambitious and plan too many hours each day. Could you make a video addressing time blindness and provide tips on how to plan more realistically? Thank you!❤

Happily! Thank you for the suggestion. In the meantime, an exercise that has helped me is to track my time. Laura Vanderkam's book, 168 Hours talks about this concept and how to do it for improving your scheduling. With that being said, I still struggle with being realistic about how long things take me (or when it comes to things I do want to do and am putting them off - how little time they actually take). Have your read The 12 Week Year - I know, another book 🤣A tactic you could use from the book is to time block your day. Incorporating a "buffer hour" - an hour of time to take care of what you didn't get done or a designated time in your day where you'll focus on whatever the day brings up you hadn't planned for. I have a video where I time blocked here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jbhxfNWBu5m5lnk.html

Hi Jenn, I’m so sorry to ask you this question especially since it’s a holiday. I am trying my best to once again try to start n 12-week year. My goal is to have it all set up and ready to start on June 1st. It’s not going well. Plus, now I’m having KZfaq issues. Ugh. I have a couple questions to ask if you don’t mind. They will be easy for you. Hair pulling for me. 😊 FIRST, I have all my regular index cards in one stack. This is the order of my monthly regular card deck… 💙June calendar, 💙June tabbed divider, 💙the date cards numbered 1-31, 💙along with the action or task cards (unsure of the correct names) filed in front of the date I want to do the action or task. 💙I filed all my action or task cards throughout the month in front of the date I plan to do the task. 💙Then I have the other months and its calendar in front of each month. SECOND, I have my 12-week tabs in another stack. And, I’ve added index cards in front of each week tab with the instructions of what I need to do each week. Each goal I’m working on has been broken down and I have something to do each day to reach my goal. My problem is, I don’t understand how or where I add my 12-weeks into the regular card deck. ➡️ as info… I’m starting this 12-week year on Saturday, June 1st In one video I watched, it sounded like I put wk 1 in front of the Saturday, June 8th. But, if I do that where would I put all my daily 12-week jobs to do beginning on June 1st. Jenn, sorry I don’t have all this terminology down so I hope you get the idea of my problem. I’m starting to think I’m too old to learn how to do this. I reduced the playback speed to 75% trying to catch everything, but it’s still not sinking in. Thanks in advance if you can help.

That sounds great!! Where you will put your WK1 WK2, WK3 and so on dividers will depend on what day you consider the end of your week. If on a calendar the days of the week headings run Sunday-Saturday, place your weekly dividers (WK1, etc.) BEHIND the following date dividers: Starting from the top… 8 Divider, then WK 1 15 Divider, then WK 2 22 Divider, then WK 3 29 Divider, then WK 4 Wk 5, WK 6, WK 7, WK 8 are in front of the July Divider waiting for the date dividers to move in front of July and once that happens you shuffle them to the correct place. 6 Divider, then WK 5 13 Divider, then WK 6 20 Divider, then WK 7 27 Divider, then WK 8 July Divider WK 9, WK 10, WK 11, WK 12 3 Divider, then WK 9 10 Divider, then WK 10 17 Divider, then WK 11 24 Divider, then WK 12 Plan Divider August Divider All of your task cards that you complete are placed in front of the the date dividers. For example, if your goal is to lose weight and each week you want to weigh yourself at the start of the week. You might have a single task card that you can write your weight down on it, then store the card in front of the weekly divider when it’s been completed. So, in this example, your task card would go in front of the 2 divider. When June 2nd comes around, you’ll weight yourself, write down the number on the task card and then shuffle that card in front of your WK 1 Divider to be used at the end of the week to see how you did. Note that when each Weekly Divider is scored and evaluated, it’s placed in front of the Plan divider for future reference. The Plan Divider is placed at the end of your 12 Week year. All completed cards for the week are placed in front of the weekly divider when it’s completed and placed in front of the Plan Divider. Let me know if you are a Monday start, so Monday-Sunday, and I will give you the order for that instead. I just didn’t want to confuse things here.

@@timeandtideplans Thank you so much. I know you are busy!! Yes, I’m a Sunday start. I only picked starting on Saturday, June 1st because it was a new month. But, it sounds like I should start on Sunday, June 2nd. Does that make more sense. Edit: I reread your reply and I keep thinking Sunday start… but for the purpose of a 12-week year I need to think when I want my weeks to end… so that would be Saturday. So, how you mapped it out will work, right. Thank you.

Jenn, are your cards typing paper or card stock? I noticed they don't get creased or wrinkled. (never mind, I just read all the comments on this video, you had already answered my question! 😄)
@timeandtideplans
@timeandtideplans Ай бұрын
🙌 just your regular printer paper on everything, but the dividers. They do get wrinkly if I put them in my pocket or my purse for reference. Sometimes they get coffee or food stains if I have them sitting on the counter, but I can just print out a new one if it gets too bad.

Just started using your index card system. Curious…do you have set days you do things like “Monday-bathrooms” and just move the bathrooms card from Monday to Monday? I do not have set days. So I’ve been moving the weekly things to Sunday, then Sunday planning my week and putting cards where I think they’ll fit. Also monthly cards just on random Sundays through the month to add to the weekly planning. Am I making it too hard? I’ve got cards everywhere. lol! Then I worry about having extra time one day to do an extra card but not having/ remembering it. I’m a notorious overcomplicater. So…🤷‍♀️😂

That’s awesome - it takes a minute to figure out when you’ll do each task. The idea is that you set up a weekly rhythm for yourself that gives you a different focus for each day. I’ve chatted with a couple women who apply the clean mama method to their cards and others use zones for certain days. If you shuffle your cards to Sunday to plan out at the start of the week just note what days seem to work best for each activity overtime. The idea is that you shuffle the same cards to the same day of the week each week. So, if you have clean bathroom activities on Tuesdays, you shuffle the cards from May 28th to June 4th. That’s regardless if you get them done or not. That way if you end up not feeling well and have to skip those tasks, you won’t be thinking I need to get this done every day. You’ll get to it on the following Tuesday. For monthly cards - since each of the days of the weekly has category to it, I can easily place my monthly cards to the day it would be easiest for me to tackle it. Cleaning the vacuum is coming up for me. I try to place it on Tuesdays or Saturdays - I don’t need the vacuum as much as I do on Mondays, Thursdays or Fridays based on what I clean on those days - and Wednesdays I don’t do any cleaning projects because I tackle home administration stuff. It might sound complicated, but as you go it takes a lot of the decision fatigue and nagging feelings off of you.

@@timeandtideplans Thank you for your detailed reply! It helps a lot! I'm looking for a decrease in decision fatigue and nagging feelings! So, looking forward to that! I will continue to search for the patterns so I can get to the automated. Plus, being ok with just waiting to the next week if I don't get to it that day. Thanks again!

Right, 20 lb for the cards and 65 lb for the date dividers (just started using heavier card stock for them in January).
