We spent the day at Conkwell Lodge Stables in Limpley Stoke near Bath with racehorse trainer and BETUK ambassador Neil Mulholland to get an insight into his world, his work and what it means to train winners at festivals such as Cheltenham and Punchestown.
Following a career as, in his own words 'a journeyman jockey', Neil picked up a variety of tips from different trainers, citing Adian O'Brien as a major inspiration. In 2008 he took out his trainers licence going on to train 17 winners in this first season.
His first win at the Cheltenham Festival came with The Druids Nephew winning the Ultima in 2015. He has several big handicap winners to his name since. With no fewer than 15 festival entries this year, including Kansas City Chief in the Pertemps Final and Brief Times in the Martin Pipe, he'll be hoping for even more success at Cheltenham Festival 2022.

Brilliant Neil. You spoke so well. Can still remember you riding your pony with the stirrups up as high as they’d go- and you were just out on a road hack! Lol. You were never going to be anything else but a jockey and brilliant trainer. Well done.

Why does EVERYTHING, now, have to have "diversity", dragged into it?!?!?
