Join us for a new event series hosted by Keeper and TalkDeath featuring interviews with professionals in the death industry.
A Day in the Life of a Death Doula features Jill Schock. Jill is the owner of Death Doula LA and works as a full-time Death Doula serving about 75 families a year.
We'll learn how and why Jill became a death doula, discuss misconceptions about the profession, the qualifications, and skills necessary to become a death doula, and offer advice for those interested in becoming a death doula.

I am sorry but what do you mean that you don't sit during a vigil? You don't help prepare the space for dying with the family? You aren't there holding their hands? And what is a fly by on a patient? I am a tiny bit confused on what you do then. Hospice offers all of that without an additional fee. I am trying to understand why would I hire a death doula when it doesn't seem that I get much from it. What if I don't have family?

I am a hospice nurse thinking about becoming an official doula. I am just starting to train. I found that she does come across like “show me the money!” But, I did appreciate her sharing all this valuable information that we really need to learn about if we want to venture into the Doula business. I am sure she is warm and empathetic with her clients or she would not be sought after. Just my humble opinion. ❤

I absolutely agree, except I detect no warmth. I'm an empath and saw shallowness and coldness in these two immediately. I watched Alua Arthur beforehand and found her to be the exact opposite. Just my opinion.

I came to the comments to see if people were picking up on the same thing I was. And indeed there’s a sort of coldness that comes across that others have also picked up on. Boundaries and marketing are one half in this line of work, but I’m assuming the other half is warmth and compassion which I didn’t see here.

Hello! I learned of Death Dinners and watched a video. KZfaq being KZfaq. More specifically the KZfaq robot being the KZfaq robot and being programmed as it is to send what it perceives as being of interest, placed your video in the Upnext slot. So I selected it. Thanks for creating this.

Is there a difference when the person passing is a child? And I'm curious about emotions, how to control your emotions when there is so much grief and pain around you?

Sorry, a minute in and you were not engaging. Sadly, as I was looking forward to this, having an extensive history in this field.

This lady seems annoyed at any practical questions being asked. She seems very rigid about her time and monies owed to her and doesnt seem empathetic at all. All about the dollar for her.....
