Thank you for this video! I'm a 3rd semester nursing student doing my med/surg rotations. I am feeling so overwhelmed right now and like I'll never be as competent as I want to be. Watching your video helps me learn about prioritizing my day!! :)

Awesome video! I'm an LPN going to Med/Surg for the first time officially. I have been floated to M/S but I've mostly been on Psych. You have given me a great idea of how to plan my shift and I will take it and tweek it to my needs. Thank You!

Very informative video! Thanks for taking the time to share this information. I'm in the process of taking prerequisites for a BSN program and your video has helped me to better understand in more detail some of the daily occurrences in the nursing profession. I hear many new nurses usually have to start working the night shift, like you did, and I would love to hear about that. I'm not a subscriber of yours, just happened to come across your video, but congratulations! You seem to enjoy your job and I think it's better to hear from positive people in the field :)

Thank you for posting this video, it's very informative and helpful. I'm a new graduate from an RN-BSN program and just got accepted for a new grad program at a hospital. Orientation will be for a few weeks on a medical/surgical floor and I've been very nervous about what to expect. I feel a bit more confident having an idea of what I'm getting into and how to tackle the day! Thank you again!

Thanks for this insightful video! I am graduating from my LPN program in a week (AHH!) and have accepted a position at a local hospital on their Neuro Med/Surg floor. I am equally excited and scared to death- on this floor I am handling my own patient load rather than completing care with an RN. This video has helped me to know what to expect a little more, so I really appreciate it!

So good to see another video! I think all your ideas for the other video's are great. I would definitely like to hear your thoughts on the BSN program. I am an associate degree RN and I am thinking about either a BSN or RN-MSN program. So I would love to hear your thoughts about that. I think other ideas that are good for people is how to take care of yourself while trying to care for others. Love your video's and so happy to see this new one.

Shiney Nickel I would also like some info on it. More and more hospitals in my areas are requiring BSN you can get hired if you have ADN but within 3 years you have to have your BSN.

Hi Heather! Thank you so much for this video, I found it so helpful and informative. As a nursing student nearing praxis, I would love to hear about your final praxis experience. I would also really like to know what it was like for you when you first entered your job on the med/surg floor and how long it took you to feel confident in what you were doing on a day to day basis. I am so excited but very nervous to start because as great as school has been, I know most of my learning will take place on the floor when I enter my first job; based on that floors expectations and specialty. Are the staff patient with new nurses or is there a lot of pressure to be on point from the start? Do you feel comfortable asking for help from fellow staff even though you know they are busy as well? It would also be great to see a video regarding the interview process and how you prepared for it and what types of questions you were asked. Thanks again so much for helping all of us out here watching! :)

Hey Heather, I just turned 28 and have a business/finance degree. I've really been considering going back to school to be an RN. - accelerated program. At this point how do you like the career? Any recommendations?

One of the places I'm interviewing is a medsurg (light telemetry) floor that sounds like the one in your video in terms of getting all types of patient's, pathophysiology, etc. Do you have a brain sheet that worked for you on the floor you worked on in this video that you can share? Thank you!

Loved this video! I am a nursing student right now and feel overwhelmed sometimes with all of the information I'm going to have to learn. Do you feel like you were prepared for this job or did you do a lot of training on the job? Thanks! (:

I definitely felt that way too. You learn A LOT in nursing school but you learn even more once you are on the floor. There are so many variables that school can't teach you. Getting a job with a residency program really helps. Good luck!

Hey! Love your videos. Do you think nights on med surg are less busy than days? As in time to eat, sit down and chart. Also, do doctors round on nights?

We have 6 patients each on our med/surg/tele floor. Any advice on how to handle a 6 pt load?
@heatherheartsnursing

That's tough. I think the biggest thing would be clustering your care as much as possible, delegating to your nurse aide/tech as appropriate, and really working on being as organized as possible in regards to prioritizing your day. Best of luck!
