Just came across this, as someone working for their degree in art history & classical studies, curating is my dream!

I have always wanted to work in a museum and be a archeologist also. I am currently a psychology student because i want to be a psychologist too🤣🤣🤣I worked as a Plagiarism Officer on my campus for 4 months and i did not like it. I also used to be an assistant librarian on my campus and loved that, it was such a dream come true because I have always wanted to work in a library though ours was a small one because our campus was a tiny one but still...I really think your job is so cool and i would love to work there♥️

Hey Maria, the museums management has been transferred to a new non-profit society. It seems like they are intent on picking up where we left off which is pretty cool. Wishing them the best of luck!

Being on an island must make it even harder to maintain funding
@professorpeachez
@professorpeachez Жыл бұрын
The fact that we are on an island isn't actually a contributing factor to our funding. The museum is located in the capital city of the province, so if anything, you would think we are in a BETTER spot than some other museums scattered across the more rural communities of BC.

@@professorpeachez sad to hear. What will it take for communities to prioritize history and culture. That said, I need to march my butt straight to Eldon House and the rest of Museum London if i think it is so important to preserve. That fact that the building is still standing is amazing in itself, but it is also set up and filled with artifacts and displays similar to Ellice House. Thank you for sharing and always reminding me why i love history and to be an actual patron. Not just an armchair one. Thanks

Great video! I would like to know if you consider yourself a Public Historian? Why or why not? How would you define Public History? (Context: I’m entering my 2nd Masters in Museum Admin and the focus seems to be on defining What public history is and Who is a public historian- my personal opinion is “it’s all relative”… there are bigger issues than definition within the field) I’m just really curious now about what others in the field think

Hi Katharine! You posed some very interesting questions, and I will do my best to answer them. The work that I do at the house museum definitely constitutes "public history" in that we engage the public with the sites history in a number of different ways: we offer themed tours and events, we have clear interpretative panels, and we have been working hard to make the collection as accessible to the public as possible through digitization. We also have social media, which we use to not only advertise for events but also to share new discoveries from our research. The KZfaq channel, in particular, falls very neatly into what I would consider public history (as do parts of this channel). Our site also has a historic kitchen garden, so we are able to donate food to the community and offer workshops for where we can discuss the gardens' history and food sustainability. I very much enjoy sharing history and stories with other people, and I'm very grateful to have stumbled into this field. I wish you the best of luck on your Masters!

As soon as I saw the mask, I was done with this video. I only ever wore one when I absolutely had to like going to the hospital, but that was it . I still see idiots wearing mask and all that is over. SMH people believe everything the government tells them lol .
