A Day in the Life of a Reef Keeper in Australia | Blue Reef Tank
In this video, I’ll be sharing a usual day in my life with saltwater reef tanks living in Melbourne, Australia. I usually enjoy visiting local fish stores around where I live and this week, I found some new coral gems to auto the Waterbox Cube 20.Also, I’ll show you how I harvest my own phytoplankton at home, including all the steps I take to maintain an ongoing healthy Phyto culture. U maked great choices on corals!! When I finally get a reef tank I think it will be LPS dominant, love scollys, and mushrooms, but also Duncan’s and torches/hammers for movement! Such pretty corals… but scollys are my favourite, I like the other one u got too, I would have called it a scolly 😂 I don’t know enough about corals, but it’s very nice! 😍

Thank you Jake! Those corals that you mentioned above are all my favourites! Scolly is definitely the "ultimate" coral to have. They are very expensive but they are stunning!

They are great for filter feeders like clams, feather dusters, coco worm, sponges and even corals :D I heard they even consume nitrates/ phosphates on your tank because they are technically an algae.

Solid video as always. What are your tips on coral selection and aggression in nano tanks? I’m trying to plan out which corals are best for my 15 gallon.

Thanks Jacob! It really depends what kinda look you want to achieve in your tank. If you like to have lots of movement, you can go with LPS and softies. Otherwise, SPS is a good choice but it can be hard to keep SPS alive and thrive.

its inspiring how u keep such messy affair so neat and clean. my setup looks like a slaughterhouse after a day of water change or salt mix :) Can you tell where you got those mangroves? I looked for them for everywhere.

I was looking to get the same aquarium as yours the cube 20 from waterbox, if you don’t mind giving me your personal opinion. And great video by the way, I just started this hobby and your videos give me a calm tutorial compared to tons on info others do in one video

I wouldn't mind the cube 20 but I'd much rather go with the peninsula mini 25 just because it's slightly bigger and you have more space for your aquascape :)

Thanks again for this great video. Because of you, I am now planning to switch to a seawater aquarium! I've really become a huge fan with these videos! Do you only have tips or preferences regarding fish in a nano aquarium? I'd like to keep a couple of Clownfish, but I'm afraid they'll get too big for a nano aquarium like the Waterbox cube 20. What are your favorite fish for a nano aquarium? Thanks again for the wonderful videos I am a big fan of your work!

No problem mate! Glad you enjoyed my work :) Clownfish is perfect for the Waterbox Cube 20! I have two 6 year old clownfish in my 16 gallon tank and they are doing fantastic! In fact, they just laid eggs 3 days ago 😅

Yeah, the bleeding scolly's meat is literally pouring out of the skeleton and onto the sand 🤣 I think they are all the same type, just different colour. The phyto will probably be available in my LFS soon :)

When dad gets me a reef tank I want it to has a mandarin dragonet, and we can culture phyto and copepods for the tank, maybe get a clam or some shellfish in it too would make it really special 🥰🐶

Depends on colour, they average roughly $200 Australian a piece

I believe you're referring to the one that attaches to a rock? It's some sort of plant from Indonesia and I got them from Aldi a while ago 😅

It looks like a type of dwarf 'Umbrella Tree Plant' (Schefflera or Heptapleurum sp.) to me. 👍
