Spasticity is a common condition that can be under diagnosed and under treated. Spreading awareness about spasticity may help stroke survivors, their families and caregivers to better understand this condition.

Nice video about spasticity, this is hard to deal at times, things usually don’t go the way you want them to. Even after several months of therapy. There are physical and emotional boundaries that need to addressed also in attaining the right attitude.

Blah, blah, blah am now 2yrs 4mnths post hemorragic stroke (still haven't learned to spell hemmorhagic yet). Don't need help with spelling from Mr or Mrs pedantic by the way. Spasticity has decreased and have re-gained some more movement/control but, everything is still a bloody nightmare. Still no advances in post stroke treatment as far as I can find out/gather. Been using 'Sativex' (CBD) for about 6 months it helps with the spasticity, pain and anxiety, that's if you can get it prescribed (GP cannot prescribe it, only a neurologist) it helps but it's definately not a cure. Plus if you've got stuff to do (in any context) don't take Sativex or you'll get nowt done. Until the real problem is addressed (brain damage) we're doomed to a non-life of hardship. If more time, effort and money was spent on perhaps, medication to promote axon re-growth or neuron re-generation now that WOULD be helpful. But whilst there's wars to be fought and pockets to be lined that's never gonna happen.

From the video, I did not see any exercise to deactivate your finger spasticity. If so, it means your brain has not being trained to send signal to deal with spasticity. If this is the situation you are facing, likely you still have spastic issue with you and your finger movement may greatly affected. Hope that someone could train up your CNS system to interfere that.

Australia. Car accident created severe Traumatic Brain Injury, aged 34. Now 39 years later aged 73, very similar to the man in this video. Left side spastic, with contracture of the left hand and arm. Did the Botox injections and hand splints. Still on Bacolofen tablets. Now using EMS machine (from $20 USD) to retrain the left hand to try to re-learn, especially "relax". Sleep with a tennis ball sized object in my contractured left hand. Often also have this during the day as well. Soon perhaps, Bacolofen pump below my belly button, injecting into my spinal column? Currently CPAP machine nightly, and electric scooter for long distances. Walking stick everywhere. Autonomic systems also collapsing: neck and lower plumbing systems. So the usual Incontinence treatment procedures. Costs paid totally be our Australian federal government, for the last 39 years since the car accident. Did attempt a few years at returning to full or part-time employment, but fatigue in everyway (cognitive, emotional, physical) forced that to stop

U can help ur self and remove spasticity completely by working on your brain through your paretic body coupled with gravity such that brain. Recognizes that the need of spasticity is obliterated and it must not waste its energy any longer in developing or sustaining spasticity

I am close to one year hemorrhagic stroke. I’ve done all the therapy. I do daily exercise and stretching. I found the spasticity getting worse.
@garywalling4341
@garywalling4341 2 жыл бұрын
@@garygallant5390 I've recently had a couple more botox injections which have helped with the worst of my spasticity. I had 19 jabs in a row in the early weeks after my stroke. Not a very pleasant experience and, it was a bit too early for me to tell if it made any difference at that time. However these recent ones did help. I know, injecting poison into your muscles is not only painful and, is just a relief not a cure but, am going back for more. If you have access to this treatment it does help. It wears off eventually but that brief window of mobility/spasticity relief is worth it.

I have clonus, and spasticity. How is Clonus worse?? I just had brain surgery.
@virtuosoproductions4589
@virtuosoproductions4589 3 жыл бұрын
@@Nelle_LaLa when one has a stroke or brain surgery, the muscles connected to that area of the brain looses connection and to prevent muscles from getting hurt spinal cord takes over and pulls your limbs close to the body. Unlike the brain, it's one way communication only. It's like a windows computer going into safe mode after a crash. With neuroplasticity reconnects when patients do repetitive therapy. However, spinal cord hates to loose the control, so there's a fight between brain and spinal cord.That causes clonus. Actually, clonus means things are getting better as two way communication between muscles and brain is being established. Spasticity is somewhat related. As long as you keep doing therapy to restablished list connection between brain and muscles, both clonus and spasticity will taper off. You should do therapy and get lots of sleep. If you dont sleep for at least 6 to 7 hour a day the new movements you learn will not be permanent. Only formula is, do therapy and get lots of deep sleep. I know someone who was not getting sleep due to clonus, he started taking CBD oil to calm the nerves he started getting better. Hope this helps. I have read lots of research papers as I was in research once. Ask me if you're not sure about my explanation. TC.
