Thanks! Framing concepts are all about setting up a plan for your load path that works with the architecture. A great way to practice is just to look at structures when you're running errands. Try to see where the load is going and guess why the engineer did it that way :)

If you watch closely, you'll see I actually used both of these softwares :) In general, as a simplified answer - SAP2000 is more customizable, for connections, complex geometries, etc, while ETABS is a bit more robust for whole-structure analysis. Both are useful and fun to play with. There is tons of info about both softwares on the web if you're looking to find out more!

In Canada, we use the National Building Code of Canada to determine loads and typical residential construction information (available for free download online). There is also a table of typical dead loads near the end of the Canadian Handbook of Steel Construction. Those are both good references :)

I'm not an expert, but from my experience I would say that SAP2000, ETABS and SAFE are helpful. Even if your company uses different software, the principles are generally the same. I can't really speak to what industry is looking for, but I found that the most BENEFICIAL skills for me were communication skills (lots of communicating while you're getting trained!!), a well rounded technical background, and critical thinking skills. I'm afraid I wouldn't do SAP2000 justice if I gave a tutorial on it. I found the videos on the Computers and Structures, Inc KZfaq channel pretty useful though. I also practiced with the example problems on the program's "Help" pages when I was getting started. Good luck!

It depends on the project, your company and the type of work you are doing! I also know civil engineers who work regular 9-5 hours and travel very little :) I would ask the company you are specifically interested in what the expectations are for their employees in the job role you are considering.

@@learnwithpi what kind of civil engineers work 9-5 hours and travel very little? to be honest i'm civil engineering undergraduate student and i like to be a structural engineer but i have doubt about working hours and working location. I don't like to live far from family members for long period. many peoples says structural engineering is very tough job and if i choose this job it is greatly reduce Spending time with my family. is that true? I would be very grateful if you could clarify that......

Unfortunately I don't think I have the answers you're looking for. It really depends. The best bet would be to speak with potential employers directly. For instance, a construction engineer may be on a remote site for a long period of time. But a civil engineer working on grading plans for a local development may be home every night. I hope you find what you're looking for :)

I'll try to make a video one day on the things that have benefited my development as an engineer :) I'm definitely still a work in progress, but the thing that has benefited me the most is maintaining a willingness to continue to learn new things :)

There's so many! It really depends on what you're doing. You want to use the one most suited for the task you are working on :) That's like asking a woodworker which tool is best - it depends what you're doing; if you need a hammer or a saw ;)

@@hemanth6410 Most universities post their course catalogues with course descriptions. If you're interested in a masters I would look up your university and their course descriptions. That would give you far better information than I would be able to. Honestly it varies widely; I wouldn't be able to give you an accurate answer. Depends on your location & type of structural engineering. When I was job hunting I found it helpful to look at the posted salaries on job board web sites. Engineering associations will also commission salary surveys. For example, the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE) has a National Engineering Compensation Survey on its website ospe.on.ca. It gives a broad range of salaries across engineering disciplines and practice levels. Good luck :)
