That's so true what he was saying about the drug scene. It's strange, i've never thought of it, but everyone is super clean nowadays. Or maybe they all just do it in moderation like you're supposed to.

There's always a ignorant misconception that DJ do drugs on stage. What people don't understand is the crowd shows no mercy for mistakes. A DJ's performance has to be flawless. You often have multiple mixers, multiple decks going at multiple beats per minute, an internal sequencer, all of which usually processed with multiple computers. All while you harmonically transition and balance EQ's. In other words, crystal clear focus is paramount. You have to be "in the mix" as they say. You and the music have to become one. There is zero room for error. That's how discipline preforming music is. Much respect to all DJ's out there.

+soldforfree Multiple mixers? Multiple computers? Multiple beats per minute? I think you're overcomplicating it a bit. What's involved is one mixer, one computer and two decks.

+ibuprofen303 Not any more. That use to be the case. I mean yes that set up is fine for you local DJ who works a dead end gig going no where. Super star DJs like Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, and Armin Van Buuren are increasingly pushing the boundaries with live performances incorporated into a live mix. In fact, technology has advanced so much that even your average amateur DJ has more gadgets than your local DJ from 5-10 years ago. I don't even consider guys like BT and Dead Mou5 as DJ's. They're actually performing unreleased tracks and sometimes even unrecorded materials. That's what makes going to see a DJ an incredible experience. It's music that you can't buy or download anywhere. You can only experience it live right then and there. Paul Van Dyk for example usually has 2 lap tops running. You should Google images of his set up. It's bananas! But you're right most DJs use only one computer. But now a days you'll typically see night clubs or festivals with a set up like this: a standalone mixer (probably something like a Pioneer DJM2000) then they'll route that signal into Ableton Live and take advantage of it's digital mixer, internal sequencer, and endless possibilities. Then incorporate a MIDI keyboard for some live performances while using a MIDI mixer to control Ableton's interface. Then rewire that back out to a major mixing console like a Harmon Kardon. It's not difficult but definitely not simple like the good old days where all you had was a mixer with a pair of decks. People want to be impressed and incredible artists are willing to take risks and push new boundaries with performances that require a little bit of a live feel to it.

I don't need you to explain to me the difference between "Mixing" and "Scratching". I am one of The Originators of Rap Music. We started it in the 70's.. Also, he's NOT the Worlds greatest "DJ".. Actually I think it could be a young Jean Claude Van Damme. Klitschko? Well, sort of. One thing's for sure. He doesn't look like Tyson Fury. Which he's probably relieved about. I think JKVD was the guy I was thinking of.
