When you hear the word “activist,” what image comes to mind? You may picture a protester, waving a handmade sign or making speeches at a protest. But human rights activists do more than hold demonstrations.
In this video you’ll get a glimpse into the life of Swaleh Elber, a grassroots activist from Lamu, Kenya - where government efforts to industrialize the area threaten local culture and livelihoods. His activism helps bridge divides in society, between elites, corporates, government, and the people, and each day, he works to help his community exercise their rights and shape an equitable and sustainable future.
Through a Fund-supported regional network of activists in Kenya, Swaleh is also able to access the training and support he needs to strengthen his activism and remain safe. Because calling for change can be risky.
