If she had held on to the ball and passed the ball to kill the clock instead of trying a long pass to Jil Scott or White, the Japanese player wouldn't have intercepted it and brought it back down in a rush that ended in Laura Bassett's own goal. This happened in the 90th minute shortly before the match was to end in regulation time. Kirby was ready to come in and contribute in overtime. England outplayed Japan in this match. Such a shame.

Toni is a great working class woman from Liverpool and a Brill Footballer! I follow all of the womens clubs on Merseyside (Tranmere Rovers are my team) so I first noticed her at Everton. It was obviouse that she would become a Top Footballer although I don't know if she is still playing now... what happened after Barca ???

A shame Toni didn't keep control of the ball when there was less than a minute left in the match with Japan. Carney seemed wide open on the right side of the field and she had just come in around the 75th minute so she was fresh. Toni had some room to advance the ball along the left side, but she tried to pass it down the middle to White and the pass was too short and was quickly intercepted and advanced the opposite direction. Bassett had just finished getting the ball back for her side and just as fast it was lost again. I was so looking forward for extra time with Fran Kirby coming in to attack. Bassett couldn't be everywhere for crying out loud.

softclay4thought Well they get to play a friendly with the USWNT. I hope they can all make it.

Carney made the slight pushing foul in the box that gave Japan their free penalty kick. That ill advised push must go over and over in her mind at times.

@@caitlinmorrisxx9546 If she does manage to, she'll be bench bound for the most part. The process of assembling a top notch national team involves having a heavy percentage of younger players. The quick turnaround energy requires it,
