The deckhand fell in and the captain flooded the boat!
I got to ride on a tugboat! It has always been a dream of mine to ride on a tug, and Harken Towing was very kind to let me follow along and film what it's like for them behind-the-scenes. A day in the life of a tugboat team if you will.
There are 2 members on a boat. The skipper, Ken (captain), and the deckhand, Brett. These 2 guys were kind and unsuspecting but they were true professionals when you got on the boat. They are skilled in ways I had never seen before, and being on a tugboat was a lot more exciting than I expected.
We spent the day pulling and connecting log booms, as well as helping to push a barge through a bridge, all on the Fraser River, between Vancouver and Port Coquitlam.
What are your thoughts on tugboats? Is this what you expected it to be like on a tug? Have you seen Harken Towing in action before?

What video would you like to see next? Do you have any video ideas for me?

Another awesome episode! I started watching your channel for the travel. I liked the train videos too. I came to appreciate the entertainment value as well. But I have to say the variety of what you do adds so much to the channel. I loved this one! Thanks!

I guess im one of the few people because im a deckhand on tugs in Nyc. This was interesting to see. That deckhand has some serious balls running on those logs. My tug is a 3000hp and we move petroleum barges.
@ChaseVlogs
@ChaseVlogs 5 ай бұрын
Yeah this company is a little more hardcore compared to the average Tug company. In Vancouver they have lots of companies that mainly move petroleum where the deckhand doesn't have to jump off the boat. Assuming those ones are similar to your job.

Nice vid man. I've been working on tugs for over 10 years now. One thing that I love about it is that it's very different from what most people do. However, and I'm sorry to burst your bubble here, but it looses its glamour after a while. Everyone that doesn't do it thinks it's awesome, but eventually it's just another job. But it is more interesting than riding a desk.

It is nice to get a change in life and try something different. Most of my career have owned and driven Semi Trucks but took a two year break and went Commerical Fishing starts out as an exciting adventure then the glamour wears off a little bit but no regrets met some awesome people and enjoyed working outside. Back Trucking again but when I'm out in the field tasting the weather it brings me back to the deck soaking in all of nature and how awesome it is to harvest and transport the fruits of our world to feed and equip the world.

I was on a Tugboat in Atlantic Canada in 2015. It was just after a hookup and we were were towing a Barge back to the Harbour when one of our Secure Lines snapped. Luckily I decided to have my "after work" smoke in a different spot than usual, because I still remember how it swung past where my legs would've been. Always make sure you take care of your gear, and let me be an example of how smoking can save lives XD.

Great video. Loved it. My friend is a Tug Capt in NY. I will tell him about this video. Give you a lot of credit filming in the snow. I'm a snowbird and go to FL for the winter. I never want to see snow again in person. Haha. Will be doing fishing videos here soon. I just posted a drone video which I did in Jupiter, FL. Time to watch LivePD now. Have a good night.

I grew up in nooka sound started at 17 had a skipper who admittedly used to try knock me in never did. In 5years l went in once to my waist that was flattering out cedar bunddle booms with bolt cutters loads of fun. When l started l had to put the west coast boom chains over my shoulder to carry them there 70lbs new after a bit that changed. I used a pevee on boom because it can pull stuff together you can still fish the toggle up then a pole with tip cut off on barge so l could pick up tow line on a empty. Loved the job. My fuel gauge was how high the boat sat but at a point we'd dip them never heard of running dry but.... Common mistake is running on all filters because if you get plugged you shut down but if you run on one with 2 as reserve you hear it starve whip down open valve on a clean one keep going. Tugs are hours of boredom with moments of sheer terror.
