It broke my heart to see you in so much pain with the breast feeding. So glad that it is getting better for you. A friend of mine never was able to work out the breast feeding and used the bottle only. This is something that never seems to be talked about. Thanks for sharing the real stuff.

Olive is just too beautiful and precious !! You don’t have to put any makeup at all when your baby is 5 days old. Really. You’re just pretty as you are as a new mom. I’ve been there and done that. Enjoy your new baby. You’ll miss this moment pretty soon 💕

Thank you for being real! So many mamas pretend like they have it all together but newborn phase is ROUGH! Everyone thinks once the baby is out everything gets better but in truth it gets so much harder! Your heart is full and you never knew you could love like this... but you’re in pain, can’t sit down properly, boobs engorged, your tummy looks deflated and you need a week long nap! Nothing can really prepare you for it. Even when you have baby #2 it’s like “oh my gosh I forgot about this and that” But the sweet little babe makes everything worth it♥️

Elanna, congratulations on Olive! I just had my son Oliver 10 weeks ago. You are absolutely right, breastfeeding is extremely hard. I was having a ton of problems in the beginning as my milk supply was really intense and my flow was too fast for Oliver to handle as a little newborn. I felt awful because every time he fed he would vomit everything up very violently and we’d have to start again. I’d heard loads about low milk supply and Moms who struggle with not enough milk, but I’d never heard of having too much! If you have one available I would highly recommend seeing a lactation consultant if you have more issues. I was very close to giving up on breastfeeding before I went to see one and in half an hour they basically solved my problem with different positions etc. Hang in there. As Olive grows and becomes stronger so will her latch and her ability to take the milk she wants and needs at her pace. Love your honestly. Women need to talk more about this and support each other, however we choose to feed our little ones. xoxo

Sarah MacNeil -I agree that seeing a lactation specialist can be a godsend. Don’t know if you have them where you live, but it might save you from some of the more difficult struggles getting breastfeeding established.

So true that breastfeeding is the hardest part! It’s literally a full time job those first few months and so painful! But it does get easier! You’re doing great! Trust your body to do what it was made to do, be patient/kind to yourself in these beginning stages of motherhood, and enjoy every second because before you know it, you will be sobbing at the thought of planning her first birthday party. (From a mom of four who breastfed and/or pumped for various lengths of time, ranging from 6 weeks to 8 months)

Great work getting going so early on! I’m glad the warm cloth and expressing helped you out! I also HIGHLY recommend the Medela Contact Nipple Shields. My first is now 4 months old and feeding was so good to start but once my milk fully came in we struggled SO much. My sister-in-law mentioned them and once I tried them it was amazing! It helps baby get a latch and also helps your nipples get a chance to heal up. You gradually stop using them, but they’re super helpful when trying to push through! Sometimes my girl would be fine without (I always tried without first so we didn’t create a NEED), but often when she was really really hungry she struggled the most, so that’s when I used them. Sometimes I even just used it to start the feed until I was a little less engorged. You’re doing great, mama!

Oh, you're so glorious to watch. Your honesty is impeccable, it's what we really need in this world. If people portray perfection at breast feeding, when there may not be perfection, it makes it harder for every woman going through the same situation, because nobody knows the truth, and they might feel awful, even if they aren't a failure. I appreciate this vlog so much. :)

Hi, you know I’ve never commented on a video before but I always watch you and relate so much with your breastfeeding experience. With that said I am 32 and have breastfeed my three boys for over a year each. Although when your milk comes in as yours has and you are engorged it is crucial to pump that extra milk. You will not stay in the pain you’re in and your body will regulate to exactly what your daughter needs without you being in pain. The fact that your right breast is hurting more could mean you have a slight infection called mastitis which is awfully painful. I don’t mean to pry or give any unwarranted advice.... I see how hard your trying and I want you to know it will get better. You have a great supply of milk and she is latching on correctly so it will all fall into place and become the most satisfying experience for both of you. The bond it creates is unspeakable and heartwarming. I’m more than sure you know most of what I’m saying already but Incase any of my words could assist you to continue through the hard times. It will get better, won’t hurt at all and become so natural. She is learning too:) If you rub her cheek or lips she will open wide enough for a complete latch and if she falls asleep on the breast you can put your pinky in her mouth against her cheek on the inside to break the latch less painfully for you. Good luck:) I’m sure many people may have different opinions, these are just my well earned ;) thoughts for you. From one mother to another.
