The Bardelas Battalion (227th Battalion) is a coed infantry battalion. It's The battalion is the third coed battalion in the Israel Defense Forces.
The battalion was founded in August 2015 and began operational activities a year later. The battalion trains both male and female combat soldiers to maintain the security of the Arava Region, which stretches from the Dead Sea to Eilat. The training is seven months long, during which the soldiers practice firing weapons, urban warfare, and other forms of combat.

I would be furious with the men who send my daughter to fight a man’s battle. Remember 6,500. It’s the number of genetic differences between males and females according to a 2017 study. We are built different. Conscription of women is cowardly.

I served an aerial gunner in a US helicopter unit in combat in Iraq. 2 of the best pilots I flew with were women. Not just as pilots, but they were great officers and people. She’s absolutely correct men and women are different. The women I served with couldn’t physically do what the guys did. I’m sure a few could, but not really. I don’t know many women who can carry a pair of .50 caliber machine guns over their shoulders, or drag pallets of ammunition off a helicopter tail ramp. Or carry a litter. I couldn’t manage the myriad of things going on in the cockpit while keeping a calm and sexy radio voice while getting shot at and getting everyone safely home.

Erm, no. Since 1948 as part of the declaration of independence, all citizens (male and female) have been subject to conscription. There are some nuances like Arabs, religion and some small ethnic groups have exclusions and the time is different for women than men...but overall it was law that made this, not action by women. I mean, Pre 1948 about 20% of what would become the IDF was women, so they have always been serious about service. Of course there are issues and some legal cases like Alice Miller who wanted to be a pilot and there are always going to be issues but they are an important part of the national defence, and not many nations have that from women esp in such numbers (About 45%)Just thought I would correct any misconceptions you have.

@@lunatunauk3100 I suspect he's referring to their ability to be not just in the military but be gun toters. And years ago, IDF experimented with subjecting women to identical training and training standards as men for infantry training. They stopped that years ago because it was a disastrous waste of time. Women are armed in Israel but armed in areas where they're serving basically as border patrol or closer in, as terrorism deterrent by being armed on buses and on streets. Meanwhile, the lefties are driving the U.S. military off a cliff with gender issues. Our enemies luvvin it.

@@teller1290 The court case was specifically about female pilots. But until that court case Israeli women could not serve in any combat roles. After that court case the IDF changed course and opened up not just the air force, but also ground units combat roles.

@@amirabiri2 The phrase "combat arms" in IDF doesn't quite mean the same as in western armies. The uniformed young woman on a tourist bus with an assault rifle is in the army (reservist most likely) and as gun would suggest in some kind of technically combat role. However, we would describe it more as an MP role and in special border units as more of a customs and border paramilitary role. IDF, however, has separate ACTUAL combat units of tanks, infantry and artillery that are either entirely male or almost entirely male that would fight actual war with Hamas, Hezbollah, Syrian army, etc. The woman above said she's in a unit that's 70% female. That isn't any kind of main line, first-string assault unit.

Wish all Israelis a lot of courage in this terrible time. I would like to thank all IDF soldiers for their commitment, especially the many young women who serve in the combat troops. I am now old and disabled due to deployments. But my MICRO GALIL and MINI UZI are still ready for the final battle. Be tough, fearless and careful so that you can win and then enjoy life with your loved ones. There are many people in Switzerland and the USA who are praying for you. 🙏

Shalom. Great said. Knowing your weaknesses as a woman compared to a male soldier, is not only a matter of wisdom, it is the craddle to moral strength. Indeed, many armies in History have won battles and have become victorious in the art of war NOT because they were stronger than the enemy ( sometimes they were weaker ) BUT because they knew how to play their cards and how to attack the enemy' s weaknesses. You win battles less by being the strongest than by playing very hard your enemy' s weaknesses. If you can not be the strongest, be the best at attacking your enemy in his very own abyss

Running and shooting at range is like a fraction of war fighting, most of the time men are digging holes and carrying supplies and munitions, patrolling up and down hills, etc.

Yea anyone can pull a 5 lb trigger. The reality is that men do all the fighting ever since the beginning. Coed units under perform and anyone whom has served in a modern military knows that male and female dynamics are still at play. Many militaries are softer as a result of feminization, especially in the west.

Earned? Never met a female that could do everything an above average Infantry male could do for the long haul without the frequent injuries. This so called commander can't weight more than 140 pounds. When shit hits the fan you wouldn't want her next to you. At any level a Female Infantry soldier is a liability. The best of the best are males by far. I would refuse to go into battle with social experiments.

I first went to Israel near the end of Desert Storm in 1991. One of the lasting mementoes of that visit is a photograph of a female soldier carrying an M16 (I think technically they were referred to as CAR-15s) and a kit bag taken on HaTmarim in Eilat. It was published in an Israel tourism review story by my local newspaper.

You can volunteer to serve, even if you're not Israeli and stay in israel just for the 3 years of your service. Just be aware it is the real thing, not a virtual fantasy, and that taking the IDF's Oath of Allegiance explicitely says you might have to lay down your life to protect the country and its citizens.

I am a thirty year Army/Police veteran now retired some years. These girls really earn my respect as the ladies say “lays her cards on the table”. She is not trying to be a man but a regular effective soldier. The IDF is an outstanding effective military and if the females weren’t up to the task they would not be in the ID F. As a supervisor in the Police I had to be brought around from always having a male and a female in a response car because the females were taking me to task on it, so I adjusted my mindset sent them out as a fully female crew and just accepted if they get filled in so be it same as in the infantry if a girl gets captured or whatever, I would be thinking she is just another soldier in my unit and if I can’t save her and it’s beyond my units capabilities. So be it.

We need correct policy executed in line with existing FEDERAL STATUTES. The regime is allowing what's happening to happen. It has nothing to do with lack of personnel or resolve on the part of those hirelings. It's policy from Washington allowing future democrat majorities to literally flood across the border in violation of this president's oath of office promising to uphold the Constitution and laws. People need to understand this. No amount of additional personnel or money will make the slightest difference there. It's POLICY, backed by federal power to bring about the transition that Obama envisioned... who's still calling the shots in this country.

No, she's in a border patrol function. Of course, in Israel, that's potentially very dangerous. The other key point is that Israel's not as much progressive as practical by having pick up slack where it would burn out their relatively small regular army if they had to do border look out duty. They have to be rested for any serious, large threat. Israel is outnumbered 30:1 and whatever they have to do to offset those odds is unique to their unusual situation, not necessarily any lesson we can learn from. If Israel has 10,000,000 more people, I'd bet there would be few women in their military.

Lot more to soldiering than pulling triggers. You could say the same thing about the .30-06 rounds used by USMC when they landed on Guadalcanal in Aug '42. It's the deprivation of months of combat strain, bad food, bad sleep, weight loss, always on the move with heavy packs, stress.

It's good that she admits the physiological differences, the men around her would naturally also be more concerned with her protection in critical times & she'd be a more valuable hostage to the enemy than a male soldier. It would also be more embarrasing for the other side to be defeated by women in battle especially in a society in the islamic states in the middle east that has a lower view of women.

As a veteran in the IDF🇮🇱 as a LT in SF and then in the USA 🇺🇸 as airborne Ranger 75 regiment I can tell you this - Simply don’t F-UP with any 18 year old woman in Israel 🇮🇱…. Its called mobile eye and it has nothing to do with the army. Its a camera that makes sure you don't veer over the lanes and beeps when you do, you get a bonus on your insurance if you have it as an added safety feature., Most companies and government offices have them installed on all their vehicles for the insurance break.
