I have a 2 page reaction - no room here! At the matinee, he was not at his best vocally; but after the intermission he was great! His acting dominated the production, which was styled after Goya. The revolving stage kept the action moving. After he loses Leonora, he has this nasty swagger that is so slow, it looks like his insides are smashed and he is containing the pain. While he comes across as pure, latent, thwarted viciousness, your heart still goes out to him, he is so clearly raw & hurt.

Just a little bit o' luck :-) This was actually downloaded from KZfaq by somebody, and after some time, it got to me. That's why I'm asking whether somebody has the entire film. I think there's some singing cut out. You must let us know what it was like! I'm going to see him in London :-)

In the future days, I'll post his bio focused on his private life (or the little we know about it) to my blog. As for the nose, he said in an interview it was broken several times, last time in a pub brawl in Venice in 1991 or so. Nowadays he runs and swims.

Sure. Just compare La donna e mobile and Cortigiani! I suspect that the composers gave some fun arias to the tenor to please the people, and some serious and deep arias and character development to the baritone. Verdi himself was a baritone!
