@@budgetaudiolabsMusic in the background is ok as long as it's not distracting. Next time change the balance and make the music quieter. Another music pitfall imo is when videos use the wrong kind of music. You can play two songs at the same low volume but the audience is going to perceive a fast tempo rock track as loud, while a soft piano piece fades into the background.

Great information in this video. The music and narration are crack up. The music makes me feel like I'm sunny and cheery; it's like I'm a child again. And the bot-like narration is also just as weird. I was considering buying another A-07 but, with the knowledge I've gained from this video, I'll probably go with the Fosi. the fact the Aiyama is downgrading it's components to increase their profit margins is very helpful to know.

A solid first effort. I'll give you a sub just for the teardown. It's nice to know what's inside these things and how they perform. I know others have complained about your music but it wasn't too bad and I got somewhat used to it. At a minimum turn down the volume next time and make sure it's the type of music that won't draw attention to itself. Despite what others have said, I would still recommend background music if you're going to use narration software. I could be wrong but I feel like it would balance out the voice and keep it from being its own distraction. Anyway, I look forward to your next video.

Hi Joel, just a heads up that the DAC on the WiiM isn't great. Otherwise that combo is great! I use a Wiim Pro into my DAC (smsl su-6) which then feeds into my A07. I like it. Adding an external DAC to the wiim definately makes a big difference in my opinion. Just figured I'd share, maybe you already have a dac or don't really care for now, that's fine too.

I *suppose* I can deal with the "robotic" voice "speaking" the script? This is a bit grating on my nerves, frankly. But good info, at least. The A07 uses Nichicon 50V caps - the brand is quite reputable, but it's the 50V being too close to the max 48V power supply that is the main issue. My issue with the V3 heat sink is that it doesn't have any fins - surface area is how a heat sink works. Yes, there are vent holes top and bottom - but the path in between them is largely blocked by the circuit board. The heat sink, such as it is, blocks a number of the vent holes on the bottom. So - there are still a number of heat dissipation issues that are not ideal.

Nicely done! The stress tests tell the story very nicely. I've been warning people about the A07s heat problem for a while now. This V3 design from Fosi appears to fix it quite nicely. Can't say I'm happy about the on/off switch on the volume control, though. That said... I've been using A07s in my "sound bar killer" setups for over a year and with a 32 or 36 volt, 5 amp power supply they perform admirably. I also use one in my main stereo system. I've never felt that it lacks power, in fact I seldom get it over 1/4 volume (about 4 watts). There is one negative that should be noted (and this applies to a wide range of these little China-Amps) ... *About half of the NE5532 op-amps in use are fakes* . They are re-branded "something else" chips and I have seen considerable variation in their parameters. I don't believe this is a manufacturing issue. It appears to be "supply side" as there are so many showing up in lots of different places. Of late I've taken to simply pulling the NE5532s out of these little amplifiers wherever I find them and replacing them with RC4558 chips, which cost less than a dollar each. It's a good fix and often there is an audible improvement. But please also be aware that beyond the initial "repair" swap, using more expensive or more exotic op-amps brings almost no improvement.

Interesting, My A07 hasn't had any protection mode or heat problems running off a 48v 12.5A Power supply, it gets warm but there's no cut out even with longer listening sessions / gaming sessions / movie/media sessions. It's had a few tweaks since i got it though, Op Amps, volume pot, binging posts, capacitors and thermal paste for the heatsink, the V3 looks interesting but not sold on the power on / off being part of the volume pot, maybe they'll put out something with a separate controls for that(aware of the BT20A etc). Or what may be nice something with an internal power supply.
@Douglas_Blake_579
@Douglas_Blake_579 Жыл бұрын
That depends how loudly you are listening ... at more or less normal 80db levels it's unlikely you're pushing it into thermal panic. FWIW... that A07 doesn't overheat because of the power supply. It overheats because people insist on pushing every last ounce of power out of it. On the 32 or 36 volt supplies it will clip before it overheats... on the 48 it just gets blistering hot when pushed almost to clipping.

Thanks for the review. I have recently purchased a lesser known brand of TPA3255 amplifier, the Windom BRU5 with similar heat management design as the Fossi V3. My personal experience of the Windom model is showing that case temperature rised to uncomfortable level with 48V power supply, but at 32V it performed well, granted I never “stress tested” it. One unique feature of the Windom is its built in DSP EQ, which is quite effective to compensate speaker frequency response faults. The EQ function requires additional Windows based software for $20, which I have previously purchased for Arylic Wi-Fi streaming modules. Another benefit of BRU5 is its built in Bluetooth 5.0. I’d be interested to see a comparison review of Windom BRU5 against Fossi V3.

10:20. The reason the v3's case temp hit 60c (vs 40c on the A07) is because Fosi is specifically using the entire case as a heatsink, so the case is seeing more of the actual heat being generated, and is actively working to dispel it into the room. Whereas the Aiyima's case heat is simply the byproduct of the air in the case heating up, and then heating the case (still air is a poor conductor, and thus most of the heat isn't being seen at the case, which is why it's overheating). This means the Fosi case measurement is MUCH closer to the actual temp of the TPA3255 package, where the Aiyima TPA3255 package temp could easily be up over 95c. (Most ICs start failing in the mid to high ~90c range.) 10:37. So this is the point, at 66c, the v3's TPA3255 package hit the same temp the A07's package was at, when measured at 40c, and went into thermal protection. That is a very significant difference, not only in operational duration (1.6 minutes vs 10 minutes), but in terms of thermal expression, at about 165% that of the A07! You could probably make the v3 run indefinitely if you simply pointed a fan at it, with no modifications needed. Whereas, an external fan probably will not greatly improve the A07. Of course, since this is a synthetic test, the v3 is unlikely to actually need active cooling in real world usage.

@Panslapper
@Panslapper Жыл бұрын
It is a subjective choice for most people as to what a ‘bargain’ is these days…what some say is a ‘budget choice’ often leaves me thinking they are not in touch with the real world. The V3 is more than one amplifier, for example, the Yamaha AS201 is not. The V3 can be made to sound very similar to an muscular class A/B or a well detailed class A/B amplifier at the switch of two small components at very little cost. Switching the op amps can literally give 2 maybe 3 different sound signatures or in other words sound similar to an new Denon, Rotel or Cambridge Audio…and that’s a fact! I can pick out different op amp that will give me the sound of each one of those amplifiers and just pop them into the V3, now that’s a bargain! The op amps cost a few Pounds/Dollars, the amplifiers that they will sound like cost a few hundred and who is going to buy 3 of them at well over a £1000 or $1300 unless they are very rich? There is also desk space which the Yamaha will simply not allow. These days many, many people only use one input. I have had numerous big amps with many inputs and still found I only ever really used one and that is mainly for a dac over the last 10 years. Then the is the DAC itself that while many amps like the Yamaha have Bluetooth included they will never match the quality of an modern external dac. I had a Rotel A11 Tribute that has superior Bluetooth over the Yamaha and I still never used it and wasn’t better than the external DAC that I was also using. To be honest Bluetooth is awful, it always has been and still is. It was invented for telephone calls and not music. Then we have Airplay which far superior to Bluetooth and with something like the Wiim Mini plugged into a SMSL SU1 and an V3 you will have a far superior sound quality and optional digital inputs than the Yamaha and also cheaper if you shop clever! Something else to consider is the an external dac will be far superior to 99% of all current amplifiers on the market today up to £1500/$1800 and even more! The Yamaha is not a flexible as it is being shown here, it is for adding extra equipment (primarily analogue based) that is also going to cost you a lot more money and only has one choice of sound signature which is good if you like the sound of the Yamaha but you are stuck or having to return it if you don’t. Then there is maintenance, the V3 will be far easier to repair if something goes wrong. So is the Yamaha such a bargain and does it have the convenience that comes with the V3…you decide for yourself but for me I would prefer of the flexibility of the V3 in regards to sound quality and signature, the size in regards to space and maintenance. There is also the fact that you can have more flexibility when choosing speakers as you are not stuck with one stock sound as you would be with the Yamaha as well as other untouchable amplifiers. You can tailor the Fosi Audio to probably any set of speakers in regards to sound and power! If you have hard to drive speakers then the bigger power supply will compensate for that as a smaller power supply will compensate for more efficient speakers…so you may save money there too…

See my other comment on this ... The reason so many people claim grand audible improvements with exotic (sometimes more expensive than the amplifier itself) op-amps is not what people seem to think it is. Some unscrupulous supplier has flooded the market with *fake NE5532* chips. About half of the ones I've come across are rebranded "something else" chips... I have no idea what they started out as, but they are not 5532s. I routinely replace the 5532s with RC4558 chips, from a credible supplier, and yes there is, often as not, an audible improvement. The 4558 chips cost about 75 cents each in quantities of 10. What I suggest, if you are bent on trying this, is to first replace the 5532 chips with 4558 chips and use that as your baseline. What happens is that the audio quality suffers because of the fakes. Then someone stuffs in a $70.00 sparko part and claims magnificent improvements... but if they'd taken the intermediate step of first putting in the 4558s, they could have saved themselves over $135 and gotten the same result.

What was the wattage output using the 48 volt power supply on the V3? Great video 👍 Mine should be here this week sometime.

Hey there, I just wanna express A07 changed the capacitors from time to time. They used to incorporate Nichicon ones but sometime later they changed.

I had both of them even replaced their op amp with sparkos and i feel v3 have a bigger sound than the a07 ,sound quality is almost the same, though price wise if you opt for the 48v power supply of the v3 almost the same

Thanks for the review. I am a recent owner of a Aiyima A07. I was hoping the V3 would have been released earlier, but Fosi's offerings at time of purchase were at best equal to the Aiyima A07. Then it just came down to price. Were the measured differences you saw audible? The ability of the V3 to run at maximum output on a 48 volt power supply, most folks won't be needing that kind of performance. How did it do on a 32 colt PSU? Thanks for the ideas on ventilation for the Aiyima A07, although for my needs to date it's temperature rise has been minimal.

if you have bat ears could be audible.. The 07 has no audible noise, dead silent. These are already great levels. Components surroundig the chip could make some difference, op amps make difference, i use the OPA 2604AP, cheap and sound great.

89 watts would be impressive if it was into 8 ohms. Using peak watt ratings into 4 ohms is misleadingly exaggerated for products designed for the home. I would rather pay double the price for a stable 100 WRMS into 8Ohms instead of yet another 50 WRMS chip amp. I have some of these products (BT30D Pro) and even on my 4 Ohm bookshelf (I have multiple pairs of varying sensitivity) speakers, the volume control is 75% or more for anything approaching higher performance levels, which does not bode well for rated distortion levels either. While these amps are 'okay' for average SPL (loudness) on desktop systems, they fall into the age old categories of, "If it sounds too go to be true, it probably is," and "There's no such thing as a bargain." Sorry but, this old boy won't be falling for anymore of these exaggerated gimmicks again.

On the supplied 36 volt supplies you can expect a very clean 75 watts RMS from each channel, both channels driven. On 4 ohms you an expect 130 watts per channel before exceeding the power supply's limits, causing it to shut down. And yes those are by measurement ... The TPA3255 chips at the heart of these amplifiers are highly sophisticated Class D circuits. You will find them in lots of places, like high end home theatre, pro-audio amplifiers, powered speakers and... yes, even in high end stereo products. These little amps are not gimmicks... they represent advances in technology that, both simplifies amplifier design and makes it afar more efficient. The price reductions are following the simplified design and mass production techniques.
