Passing through Coventry City Centre this summer in a 1933 Rolls Royce Phantom II, it's a bit noisy, this was because the Park Ward saloon coachwork was rotten and slowly disintegrating

Apart from the bodywork noise and some transmission whine under acceleration, it's remarkable how quiet it is. A most interesting video, thank you.

Gearbox noise is due to straight-cut gears and normal for those cars.

Suspension could have a few drops of oil and the shock absorbers have seen their best days long ago... ;) My compliments for the quiet gear changes, as there is no synchromesh on 1st and 2nd. Apart from this: smooth ride! Nice memory to my car for 10 years, #158PY, also a Park Ward Saloon in which I traveled plenty of roads on the continent - from Norway to Austria - just as its name suggested. At 75 miles I had the feeling as if the coachwork is blown off the chassis... ;)

I’ve never needed 1st and there’s no synchromesh of 3rd or 4th either

@@tunneltug ok, if there is no synchromesh at all, the car should be built in 1932 or earlier. As far as I know, synchromesh was introduced from chassis #46MS onwards in 1932, but I have presently no reference book with me.

That car still looks and feels like luxury and fine workmanship. Especially when that large wide building came into view. Go easy on the bumps. Not sure what that twat in the white shirt did. J.

Beautiful car, what was all the noise?

Most of the noise is the bodywork falling apart, the frame was rotten but has since been replaced.

Those terrible bumpy roads are a prime culprit too. Probably installed by an overzealous government that doesn't want you to have a smooth ride in the ne of safety. Very sad 😂

No power steering I’m afraid.

Can be retrofitted by sourcing one from EZ power steering. But once the car is driving, its ok.

driving such a car on a regular basis will save you the monthly membership fees at a gym! ;)
