I’m so glad my generation and younger came to the realization that family can be your biggest enemy and it’s okay to cut them off. If they ever remade this movie, I hope it ends with Terri taking her money and getting away from all of them.

Fun Fact: Whitney Houston was considered for the role of Teri. Vivica auditioned to play Teri and booked Maxine instead. Regina King, Kenya Moore, and Jada Pinkett Smith auditioned to play Bird.

Terri was definitely the victim. They put all the financial burden of Big Moma's house and hospital bills solely on her even though Bird and Lem lives there and Big Moma had money hidden this whole time, she paid for Birds shop and wedding, got 2 of her men stolen by her sister and cousin, and they still act ungrateful and rude to her. Even Big Moma toxic ass. Why is Ahmad in grown folks business all the time? He aint got no friends???

Just a little poke poke maybe is HILARIOUS. But yes I remember the first time I watched this and being so confused at why everyone was on Terrys back. She was not wrong

I am stunned how much of this movie remember. Also plot? 6 plates. Interactivity level? The joy of talking back to the tv, rolling my eyes, yelling at Faith? ALL THE PLATES.

Growing up and maturing is realizing Big Mama and to a certain extent Maxine were the villains, not Terri. Terri had every right to act the way she did. Did i agree with some of the actions she did, no. But she was the family’s bank, so yeah.

The Boondocks Explains Soul Food: Soul Food is a movie about a black grandmother, named Big Mama. Big Mama demonstrates her love by feeding her family enormous amounts of pig lard. Then, get this, Big Mama's arteries are so clogged, they gotta amputate her leg. Then she dies and the family gets together to eat the same food that just killed Big Mama.

Thank you for this reaction. Rewatching this movie as an adult i’ve come to the realization that the family treated Terri like garbage. They used & abused her. The movie made Terri look like the villain because of her standoffish demeanor. The reason why she was negative Nancy was because Max stole her boyfriend & married him, the family made her pay for everything & her marriage was on the rocks. Max was a lowkey bum. Bird was probably still messing around with Simuel because she didn’t set any boundaries & she went behind her husband’s back to Simuel to get him a job. That was a real group.
