Nobody wants that. and it's pretty uncreative going back to a style that's been used by thousands of rappers for around 10 years. I suggest you learn to love modern rap because there's so much good stuff coming out that add onto the old school style you love. you just need to open your mind, I was in your place at one point.

@younglonny2220
@younglonny2220 8 жыл бұрын
+shanghaiSkymau5 I agree but I feel the statement "please bring old school rap back" is ignorant of the current climate of music or just plain growth of a genre in general. +Dave Digi man you're obviously not looking hard if you think all rappers sound the same, there's more variety today than there has ever been in rap. I agree that mainstream rap is pretty similar but there's a time and place for every kind of music. Sometimes i want some ignorant shit to have fun too and if you don't understand that you probably don't go to many parties. There's no point recreating a style that has already been perfected, you need to take it and add your own spin onto it. Nobody will ever make an Old School album better than illmatic, Ready to Die, 36 chambers, Aquemeni or anything else from that era because they'll only be trying to imitate, not create their own special thing. If you want to hear some modern rappers that don't sound alike I'll list a few; Saba, Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa, Vince Staples, Ratking, Kendrick Lamar, Isaiah Rashad, GoldLink, BIG K.R.I.T., new Mac Miller and many more. These guys all are creating their own sounds and they have bars and creativity. There's so much good rap out there and you're really, REALLY limiting and missing out on alot of good music if you think the only good rap is from the "Golden age". Alos, the Old School albums I listed above are all in my top 10 rap albums but there's soooo much good music that came out past the '90s, dont limit yourself. I was in your spot too, thinking Kanye was a gay fish and all current rap if pussy money weed. If you dont like Kanye I really recommend you listen to his Albums the College Dropout and Late Registration, they're a good transition from being a 90's backpacker. This being said, I'm really exited to see what Astro does with premo on the EP they're gonna release.

These last few years have been pretty dismal for new hip hop, except for some gems like The Left and 90's era people still going like Jedi Mind Tricks and People Under The Stairs etc etc - you are a shining star and a breath of fresh air. This is my first ever comment on any website but felt I had to tell you how fantastic you are and how very appreciated by old school hip hop fans you are - can't wait to see what's to come... +Spikes Study his flow and work on rhyming words and pronunciation....That's all he's doing. Some of the words don't exactly rhyme but the way he says them makes it sound perfect. Also work on syllable matching...like if you have a bar that comes out to 10 syllables make the 2nd bar 10 syllables too so that way not only the words rhyme but the "flow" and rhythm rhymes. I hear him doing that almost every bar. That's the key to sounding dope. All the dopest cats do it.

This is actually very dope. I really hear that DOOM influence how you're missing the beat, but also like DOOM, when you miss the beat, it just sounds good. Normally, missing the beat is bad, but you, like DOOM, have turned that into a positive asset. You do have that monotone thing DOOM does also, but the natural pitch and tone of your voice makes it unique enough that it sounds genuinely like yours. I like, I like, I like.

+Michel van Berkum Because all artists have an influence they adapt their style from. Afro said his influences and even said he was paying attention to the beats, their sounds, and their styles. Sure hes got his own unique thing, but its bits and pieces of other unique things. Comparing a young great rapper to the rappers from the 70's and 80's that CREATED hip hop isn't an insult. This kid sounds just like the grand masters, thats not something to be ashamed of in the slightest.

This isn't even trying to diss, this guy has a dope flow and delivery. But his lyrics? They're stuck in the past, you know cats like j Coke and Kendrick don't have multi syllable rhymes from outer space? It is fucking hard to write a concise story or message without compromising the vision by using a lot of rhymes. Their rhymes are there, but they're not noticeable until you look at the lyrics and break down the sounds, people forget that. Rhymes have evolved, the better rhymes is the one who does it without your knowledge, you hear some rhyme but not all of the rhyme. Point is what I'm making, Afro needs to work on his lyrics, he isn't saying anything different. Pick up a tape from a New York rapper who was big in the 90s and you have an old Afro. He's being molded by dudes who could adapt to the changing industry. If he wants to take over hip hop he has to take Kendrick down, who's music is now being used a an anthem of struggle. He's nice, but nothing new.

what are you talkong about? hes doing him and rapping how he likes. kendrick ans cole are awesome but afro doesnt have to be like them to succeed. hes amazing at being him. he brings something awesome to the table and tge dact that its nothing like k dot or cole is part of the charm. theres way too many rappers today to talk about just one being "the best." just appreciate what each talent brings and be happy that all these young cats are keeping the culture alive.

What i love about you A.F.R.O is that you you are so incredibly lyrically talented and so young at the same time. As you get older your world experiences will be reflected in your writing and i can't wait to here your incredible perspective on life. I feel most people who listen to you initially don't understand what your talking about, can't blame them though in the beginning you were more of a dictionary than a story teller. But with such unequivocal talent your growing into visionary that merges old school and new school into amazing art. I hope you never stop writing because I'll never stop listening, i wish only the best for you. You give me hope in future music, much love from Oceanside CA
