Those Cubans in Miami tried to make the custody battle all about them because they were convinced that his mother brought him to live with his Miami relatives after his mother died and after that raggedy boat sank. And then, they rioted in the streets of Miami and Hialeah after Elian Gonzalez was seized and returned to his father with his stepmother and his half-brother before going back to Cuba. That's why non-Cubans like myself have to flee from Miami to places like Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Orlando, Tampa, and even as far as Jacksonville because their violent rage over the Elian Gonzalez seizure made us flee.
