My father was diagnosed with early stage skin cancer at 24 before I was born. He was able to seek treatment and was in remission for another almost 20 years. His cancer came back as melanoma when I was around 12, and within two years spread to his brain and killed him. I can’t describe the helplessness I felt as I slowly watched my father deteriorate. Rest in peace Dad. I miss you.

Yeah I think cancers a bit harder to treat, it's not like you can treat it over the counter, you need to act fast. I've heard of small treatable skin cancers leading to cancers developing in other areas like the liver and becoming terminal. Just cos it's small doesn't mean you can lop it off with a pocket knife

In 1980 I had developed a black mole on my stomach that was growing and the psychiatrist I was working for said I had melanoma and needed biopsy. The diagnosis was malignant melanoma on my abdominal wall. Doctor told me it was was very unlikely I would survive it and as I drove home alone my body shook uncontrollably. I was 22 years old. I remained home from work for 3 days and just lay in bed visualizing non stop the poison cancer leaving my body flushing out and following my surgery the surgeon told me he removed all the cancer and I didn’t even need radiation. I have a very deep large square around abdomen and every day I’m grateful to be here. Since the melanoma, I have had 7 skin cancer surgeries basel cell and squamous and had another biopsy today on a new red spot of 5 months. I was the kid at the beach applying all baby oil and no sunscreen, piles of blisters from sunburn etc and this is the consequence. I hope everyone reading this will get to dermatologist annually for a full check (earlier If red spot that doesn’t heal in months, or new mole growth) and wear a hat and sunscreen. Keep safe 🙏

My mom had breast cancer and she told me she noticed a small lump under the right side of her breasts. So we went to the doctor, who told us she had breast cancer, and it was just at its beginning. My mom got it removed, but they also had to remove her breasts entirely, and also the lymph node in the right armpit. The surgeon ended up accidentally shifting the lymph nodes on the left side so now my mom doesn't sweat in that area anymore. but more important, the cancer is gone

My dad died in 2015 from metastatic melanoma to the brain. In 2010 he had a lesion on his scalp removed and for 5 years we thought everything was fine. Then he suddenly started to deteriorate and was dead within 3 weeks of us noticing his outward symptoms. The day he died, they did another scan. I refused to leave and watched the scan from the control room. As a medical professional, I knew what I was looking at... I've seen head traumas of multiple varieties, but I have yet to see a scan as nasty looking as his. I still remember it. Those 3 weeks were horrific.

Seven years back when my wife had her first pregnancy, she suffered a miscarriage and also a polyp growth. Her biopsy was misdiagnosed as cancerous. I can't describe the horror i went through. I didn't tell her but consulted several doctors. While describing this to my childhood friend, i broke down. He also consulted several doctors in his city. After a few horrendous days, we found out that it was not a cancer. Today we have two precious daughters - six and four. I still get numb whenever i remember that episode.

My Dad is dying of cancer right now, unfortunately. Originally the treatment worked (enzalutamide) and he was "completely clear" and it bought us an extra year with him, such precious time. I don't know how this has happened, they were supposed to be keeping him under close watch. I don't know how I'm going to get through this and come out the other side but he wants me to "be happy." We are almost ENTIRELY dependent on them. Look how people have a cow when the Internet packs it in, it's as if their lives are over. Or the electricity goes out and we're in the dark. Even showers and flushable toilets better work or we panic. To say nothing about motor vehicles! But none of those things are mission-critical, they're little more than conveniences and distractions! They aren't necessary for life. But with the number of people on the planet, if all the farmers quit their jobs the humans species is in the most dire shit of its life.

I agree. My dad, several uncles, and friends were all cancer victims who didn't live. My dad got it 2 times. First time they removed half a lung to get rid of it. Though, we were poor and had no insurance, so they wouldn't do CAT scans or anything every month or so like they should afterwards. This led to a year later where he found he had cancer all through his body as it had traveled through his lymph system to the stomach, liver, and other places. He died 9 months later. Movies don't show how serious cancer is! They just show it like it's something painful and that's all, before death. What i saw was my dad turn from a loving, caring dad into a man who I didn't recognize at all. He forgot about me, and would get very violent (but was too weak from the cancer to actually hurt my mother or I). His memory was nearly gone completely. His appearance changed so much that he didn't resemble himself, with a bloated face, skin that tore as easily as wet paper, and so on. It's a terrible thing. What caused his cancer was smoking and exposure to asbestos for years.

Not a great solution either. You might become vitamin d deficient that way. You see an irregular bump on your body? Go to the doctor.

Fuck I’m a lifeguard. In the sun all day. Maybe I should start using some sunscreen. I never burn, just tan so I never cared.
@steinshaw2490
@steinshaw2490 5 жыл бұрын
Do be careful to not burn. Keep the tan, make certain you use a broad spectrum version of sunscreen when you use it. VitD deficiency can be bad as well. You need uvA to make vitD and that is only available during the mid day. You can take supplements but then you can get to much. The tan works like sunscreen I heard it can be spf 15 but I have not looked into it.

Yes, trust your doctors. Is the average lifespan increasing or decreasing? Heart disease, cancer and now, diabetes, 3 main causes of death. We are actually living less, thank you for all that great medicine to keep folks less active and more drug induced.

My father died of metastatic melanoma 2 months ago. He had melanoma several years ago & had what we were told was a successful mohs procedure to remove it. Fastforward to 2020 when he was supposed to have a shoulder replacement done which was cancelled due to the pandemic. In the meantime he kept up with medical appts via telemedicine mostly & in person when possible, which included an appt with his dermatologist in June 2022 where he was told all was well. However, his shoulder was really bothering him, so he rebooked his shoulder replacement to be done in fall 2022. They did a CT scan as part of pre-op testing which showed his right shoulder & humerus had something weird going on, so they did a biopsy around his 67th birthday in September: metastatic melanoma. Full body CT & PET were ordered & they showed it had metastasized down his spine, into his hips, & down into his femurs, with spots on various organs. They tried him on a couple of immunotherapies & did radiation, which slowed the cancer growth down in the bones, but the organs continued to get worse. He ended up in the hospital for fluid build up in February which took several weeks to get under control, then he was moved to at-home hospice in March. He passed in April at home which is what he wanted. It's all still very raw & I can't help but wonder what more could've been done to catch this early.

I have fair skin and have a ton of moles all over. I go to the dermatologist annually to have a head to toe check up on all my moles. They tell me which moles they want to remove and i let them. Make sure to get an annual check up with your dermatologist and annual blood work with primary care.

TheCommentGuy or he could have gotten surgery and his health insurance company will say it should cost hardly anything and their ‘allowable amount’ will cover basically nothing, and then the hospital will charge 6 times what it costs to do that procedure anywhere else, and then the farmer is stuck with a massive bill even after paying thousands of dollars for his health insurance. This scenario ^ happened to my brother but with a different emergency procedure. Of course looking back the farmer should have gone to the doctor but there’s more to it.

I have a mole that is irregular and has doubled in size in 6 months. I’m feeling pain in random places. Honestly, I’ll probably light up like a Christmas tree if they scan my body. So I’ll die how I die, I’m not scared. I have no kids and I’m single, so that’ll make it easier to be excited for what comes when I take my final breath.

I remember my favorite aunt wasn’t feeling the best. So she went to the Dr’s to have a check up. They found something strange in her abdomen. This was in January. She continued to deteriorate until they finally told her the problem in early July: she had pancreatic cancer,,, and she passed on July 29. It was so so sad, and I still miss her so so much. RIP Auntie, I love you so much, and miss you terribly..... ❤❤❤❤❤
