Next winters project..... Make a set of rippers for the box blade. By the looks of the depth, that ground was hard even when the old wooden posts were installed
@coreylongbottom
@coreylongbottom 9 ай бұрын
When you mess up the placement of a hole like that, put an old fence post in the hole and cut it off at ground level. You can even pack in scrap wood around the post to fill the extra space. Then give yourself a couple inches extra for compression but you'll be able to auger the new hole without it slipping over into the old one.

I have a very solid background in concrete including finishing on huge commercial projects. A friend was just getting into concrete flat work and the first pad he poured was a parking pad behind his own house. When he thought he had the pad flat I told him it was a bit low in the centre and needed at least another 2 shovels and if it were mine I'd put in 3 for good measure. My friend was sure it was fine. The first day after a rain I delivered to him and he greeted me with "I hate you!" and proceeded to tell me about the puddle in the middle of his pad. Like Tyler I also like to build things to 'over kill' standards and never worry about them again.

More good jobs accomplished! I wondered why you were making those cement ramps so slick, now I understand. Remember it is helpful for cleanup to wet everything down when you start mixing cement- the mixer, tools, wheelbarrows, ect ect- I helped my Dad pour a lot of concrete here in years past and he always reminded me about starting by wetting everything.

Good advice - always wet the ground before pouring concrete - it prevents the ground from drawing out the moisture from the wet concrete and disrupting the cure time of the concrete. That's advice I got from a professional concrete person !! Kinda made sense to me his city boy....!!😅

I was wondering about putting rocks on concrete, at the feeder, and how the rocks would slip and slide with usage. However, you did a great job explaining later on how the concrete would only affect the front tires on the tractor. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the feeder area…it helped me understand your plans better.

If there is one thing that is universally true about farm projects, it's that whatever you have planned for any particular day WILL be altered by whatever attachment is already on the tractor......ESPECIALLY if it is a post hole digger. Possibly the most dreaded attachment to deal with. I have mine on a custom fab'd stand and it is STILL a PITA!

If you hadn't moved that hole over you wouldn't have noticed it for many years to come. That was one lucky lizard. Not only could it have been chopped up. He could have been wearing ridiculously huge cement shoes.

When you were unhooking the post hole digger, I was thinking about using it for the prep work for the concrete ramps. Do you need to cap the tall post you set? If you want a temporary cap, use a plastic or metal can and magnet for holding it attached.
