Here's a scene from the 1992 legal drama "A Few Good Men", where an unmotivated Navy Lieutenant lawyer butts heads with a hardened Marine Corps Colonel to try and save the lives of two Marines on trial murder.
Disclaimer: The reason for the back and forth with the poster is to avoid any copyright claims by the owners of the this scene.

The movie seems great for analysing the actions of military leaders but doesn’t seem to inquire about the actions of the soldiers from the snippets I’ve seen. If given direct command to execute a code red, as a soldier I’m confident that I would refuse it. If being tricked into executing such a command by believing I’m doing something else, I would stop the moment I see how someone gets hurt. And then I would refuse further commands and try to get reassigned or quit military service. I need to be able to trust my leaders that they would not get me into such a situation and that they wouldn’t want to hurt people, either. Therefore, my expectations towards soldiers would be to act in a similar manner. One might argue that a military can’t function without hurting people. I think, then a military is not what we need. See the German THW for a similar and more useful organisation.

As a member of the United States military you are required to disregard an unlawful order. What they were implying, even stating later, is that the Marines stationed at Gitmo under Col. Jessup did not question orders - ever. Or, as A55tech stated, they would receive a Code Red themselves. The indoctrination that Marines, and to some extent Army soldiers, go through is pretty intense because they're often asked to put themselves - irrationally - into harms way. So you follow the doctrine drilled into you, often through rote.
@Seemsayin
@Seemsayin 10 ай бұрын
No military movie would ever be great for analyzation. No matter how realistic it can be made... you can't analyze what isn't real. Same goes for any production, where actors play a role. Whatever it is that a viewer sees... it is all scripted. In other words... everything you see is the imagination of the people who created it. The characters are just that: characters. The actors portray the characters. They do, say whatever they are assigned to do, say. A character does not have depth, unless a writer gives it one. You can't answer questions about what a character might do, might think, might say about anything that they haven't been programmed to react about. Whatever you see in the film, is all that they are, all they will ever be. There is no point in analyzing characters. They are as thin as the film they were shot with. Characters are nothing more than what the writer says they are.
