As a former Commander in the USAF and AFROTC instructor, ever since the Nuremberg trials where the Nazi's said they were just following orders. American servicemen are trained to know that you are required to DISobey an order that is illegal, immoral, or unethical. This is still the case today under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (which is more strict than civilian laws. we have laws about behavior called "unbecoming, etc) The code red was an illegal order no matter who gave it or who followed it. All were culpable.

Outstanding film. When I was a teenager I worked in the theater, when this film was out , every time the final scene comes up people would cheer and clap. It was so well done. Such a an amazing cast of stars. Little bit of trivia when Tom Cruise is impersonating Jack Nicholson, the reason he starts to laugh is because Jack Nicholson was standing right there off camera watching him do it.

One of Tom Cruise's breakout films imo. This and Rain Man proved he was more then just a pretty face. He could act. To be in a scene with Jack Nicholson, go toe-to-toe with him as they did in the classic courtroom scene, and still be remembered as an equal, is testament to Cruise's performance in this film. The script by Sorkin is a masterpiece and certainly helped. A cool fact is, the story is based on an actual event (though there was no death), which Sorkin's sister, who was a Navy lawyer, told him about. Daniel Kaffee is based on her. She defended a group of marines who found themselves in a similar situation.

I fought with myself on whether I should say this or not, but I laughed so hard when you said that the romance wasn't necessary in Terminator because even though it was a little bit awkward, if they hadn't had that relationship John Connor wouldn't have been born. The whole point of sending the Terminator was to kill Sarah so John Connor could not be born. I suppose she could have gotten pregnant later but she was on the run and didnt trust anyone. IDK maybe I'm wrong

You guys are so funny. The romance isn’t necessary in Terminator? 😂 my dudes, it’s the driving force of the plot. John sends Reese back because he and his mom will fall in love leading to John being born. It’s integral to the movie Now if you don’t buy their chemistry, that’s totally valid. And I 100% agree that romances are forced into movies (Jurassic World is one that drove me crazy). Aaron Sorkin (the screenwriter) got pressure from a studio executive on that aspect. The executive said “why make the character a woman if she’s not going to sleep with Tom Cruise?” Sorkin called it the worst moment of his career, it made him feel sick.

Another Rob Reiner gem, was a treat to see you both enjoy it. I saw the play a few years before the movie was made and in one of the few times I can say the movie was even better.

Aaron Sorkin has really gone downhill in recent years, especially when he lets his personal issues take over the writing, but this movie where he adapts his own play is a reminder of just how great he can be. That climax is just as energetic and mind-blowing as any big action scene, just on the strength of Sorkin's crackling dialogue, Rob Reiner's expert direction, and two powerhouse actors bouncing off each other.

A Few Goodman is a great movie👍. Tom Cruise, Kevin Bacon, Cuba Gooding Jr, Demi Moore and the great Jack Nicholson etc were just amazing in this movie with their roles. One of my favorite Tom Cruise performances alongside Top Gun, Collateral and Jack Reacher👍. Jack Nicholson’s performance in this film was just brilliant and his character “Colonel Nathan R. Jessup” is so iconic and one of my favorite roles of his🔥. That courtroom scene is so iconic as it’s got that intensity in it with Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson just adding such beauty to that particular scene, “YOU CANT HANDLE THAT TRUTH….”, just WOW👏. Loved your reaction, enjoy life, take care and have a good one❤️

Seriously? Without the love plot in Terminator one, there wouldn't be any movie. Kyle Reese came across time for the woman he loved, despite never having known her.

This is a brilliant movie, with an all start cast, and one of the most Iconic lines in 90's cinema. "You can't handle the truth". I don't know if you guys have seen it or not, but another great movie with Cuba Gooding Jr. is Men of Honour, about the first U.S. Navy diver, and the racism that he had to overcome.

This movie is used in interrogation classes. You don’t “attack” directly, you lay the groundwork and then come in with the question you really want to ask, i.e when he asks Jessup what he packed, who he called and then came in with the fact Santiago did not call anyone or pack. Great flick.

Sorkin is a master of carrying a story with pure dialogue. Hard to find a film with virtually zero action and still be totally engaging. I’m 44 and I’ve loved this movie since I was in high school, when I could finally understand it. Also I’m not a big Tom Cruise fan but this was an impressive performance and Born on the 4th of July is his best acting performance in my personal opinion. ✌️

Hey guys if you don't agree with romance in some movies or don't like it I can respect that & I agree it wasn't needed in this movie. Where I disagree is in Heat & Terminator there was a reason for it. In Heat the point of the movie was these were hard men to have relationships with. One of them had a rule not to get attached so that he could leave in 30 seconds or less if he spotted the heat around the corner. In the diner scene when he tells the Pacino character this rule & is asked if he is a monk he told him he had a woman. This scene is key because that information was how he got caught. In the end when the Pacino character sees a woman in her car alone he remembers being told de niro had a woman and when de niro is heading back to the car and sees him he has to walk out on her like he said he would. That was the point in the movie so it was needed. Respect if you didn't like it but it was needed. And in Terminator that's self explanatory why it was needed. Respect if you didn't like it but it was needed.

Honestly this is one of Tom Cruise best performances in my opinion. It's a shame he wasn't even nominated for many awards for this film. I think he got one Golden Globe nomination (which he lost). This was an Oscar worthy performance.

Great reaction! Have you seen Men of Honor with Cuba Gooding Jr.? It's kindof in the same vein of this movie when it comes to the general feel of it. Also has DeNiro in it. It usually flies under the radar but I always had a soft spot for it.
