A Few Minutes of Fun
In this series you can join me at the craft table once a week for a few minutes of art and craft creativity - between fifteen and thirty minutes usually, depending what we're playing with.
This week I'm playing with a very simple technique... using Distress Inks to do some watercolour stamping with my latest PaperArtsy stamp designs, released in June 2024.

I just ordered 2 sets. Such lovely images.I love the sketchy and silhouette styles together. I sometimes find myself impatient watching craft videos but you are such a joy and your videos and your voice are so calming. You inspire me to do some simplicity stamping. I'm now seeing the last set and regretting not getting that one too. Love the purple/green combo. I will get the third set eventually. lol. There's always tomorrow.

Super gorgeous!! love the softness and lovely color combo's...I never use the inks in this way because i am afraid the colors would get mixed...but you never had a problem you said so now I will try it too! LOVE your stamps!❤

So happy you enjoyed it. It's such a lovely light and airy way to stamp... it always gives me great pleasure. I suppose on the contamination front, all the inks I used were of similar intensity. If you have a super dark ink on the stamp and you tap a much lighter one over the top, you might get a little touch of the dark one on the surface of the lighter ink pad, but as I said, just give it a gentle sweep with some kitchen paper, and you'll be fine. Certainly with Distress Inks, it's highly, highly unlikely to affect the use of the ink pad in the future. Of course, if you have the mini ink pads, you can be much more precise with your application and hardly overlap your ink colours at all. The spritz of water will help them join up and blend. Hope that gives you some extra reassurance, and have fun playing!

I’m considering starting a local mindful journal making group. In the meantime i am enjoying being creative with filming, making and editing with my channel. That sounds great... I'm still working on the whole editing/filming game - my chief fun still comes from the actual making, and the rest is a necessary part of sharing here on YT. Good luck with the snail mail return - it would be nice, but it's pretty expensive internationally!

I will arise and go now, and go to my craft table, and a small project make there, of paper and ink made; Nine Alison Bomber stamps will I have there, some stampers anonymous for the collection, and live alone in the creative haze….. @@w0rdsandp1ctures it probably will be “bee-loud” because my craft table is the kitchen table, and when I leave the back kitchen door open, bees and wasps have been known to let themselves in and make themselves at home. And when I become aware of their bee-loudness…..hilarity ensues. With a fly swatter. 🐝🐝🐝😂😂😂 The bees get gently swatted back outside. The wasps do not.

@@christinewerner6207 Bees, wasps and flies all seem to be very intelligent here. I show them the open door, waft them towards it, and off they go. I have heard (somewhere along the way) that it's a bad idea to kill a wasp, because somehow its pals can tell and then they'll come and swarm where the killing happened. No idea whether that's true, but I do my best not to kill most things... mosquitoes excepted - they all die if they come near me (oh, and some slugs).

Oooh la la! Absolutely breath taking! I don’t usually hear the phrase “deliriously happy” in my normal life, but that’s why I watch & listen to you! I concur with the other subbie who said she could listen to you all day! These tags are gorgeous, Alison! The gentle blending of all these cool colors is just so nice! Why have I never figured out how to do that?! A few videos back I noticed that you usually stamp off-center & it made a huge impression on me & then you mentioned that yourself today! Such a simple little technique with huge impact! I know you’re very busy, but how about a new project?! Please make a recording of yourself with a little thought for each day of the year! Hello Alison! I woke up extra early today and knowing it was Saturday, I instantly thought about your newest ‘A few minutes of fun” video and was hoping it would involve your newest stamp sets. I had to get up and enjoy the video before going back to bed to finish sleeping LOL I watched the video again once I was up for the day… I LOVE every design on these new stamp sets - LSS: I was finally able to get all 3 of them ordered just last night from the same retailer then I was able to get the 3 previous sets from another retailer that were back in stock this morning. SO… lots of play time in my future! These stamps are perfect for the technique used - I haven’t done it in quite a while although I was just recently talking about using markers to color the stamps then either huffing or spritzing to moisten them (learned that technique from Tim in his Creativity 101 class). So funny, I gasped right along with you when you stamped that first umbellifer… stunning! And I love the choice of white background rather than manilla… I have some Dina Wakely white tags and a couple of Tim Holtz stamp sets (wild flowers & illustrated garden) to be able to recreate today’s play if need be but I’m hoping to resist the temptation, play with something else this weekend then be able to thoroughly enjoy this technique next weekend when my EAB stamps arrive. Thanks again for all you do to encourage and inspire - you are truly a delight and it is a such a joy to share the journey with you! Have a great weekend! 🙂

I'm so thrilled that others are as excited about them as I am. I really hope that you will enjoy playing with them when they arrive - and yes, why not save this technique for that day?! I'm sure you'll find some other lovely creative adventures to go on this weekend in the meantime... markers and huffing, for instance, as you say. I've made myself quite light-headed with that one at times!! It's interesting how much difference the white tags make. I'm so used to the manila that these have a really light and airy feel to me compared to the warm tones on the manila. Have a wonderful weekend, whatever you decide to do with it.

I'm so happy to hear you love the stamps. They all are wonderful and I like the different combination of several distress inks on the stamp before stamping. I didn't do that yet, I certainly will try. A bit laughing about your check to get the wordstamps upright. Used to the deocrated Tim ones I did have some problems before (even with some of your earlier botanical stamps that didn't turn out in the direction that I wanted them to be). But I am learning to watch out for that.

I don't usually have to double-check so carefully, but I was aware that because I was busy talking while I was mounting the stamp, I wasn't really paying as much attention as usual! I'm sure it'll happen one of these days that I end up with an upside-down piece of poetry... the question is, how much imperfection can I bear to embrace?!! Happy Sunday to you.

Absolutely love this and will certainly be making a pile of them soon. Then what? How do you use them? I can see using them for a card, by not splitting the doubled up base and it becomes a card - just a different shape. Oh the fun I have in store. Thank you so much for this as I NEED to play to get my energy back. The closing music was wonderful!!!!!

Yes, indeed... you could use them as the top layer on a mixed media card, or just mount them very simply. I often use a tag as a starting point in a journal page layout, or make little concertina/accordion books with a whole batch like this. Or tie them round a bottle of wine or other gift as a simple gift tag. Or hang them along twine as a kind of garland to decorate a book shelf. I'm sure there are many other things you could come up with! I hope you'll find time for your own few minutes of fun... I agree - creative time is very restorative. No, you didn't miss the spatter, I just didn't film it. It was an irresistible urge that came over me while I was laying them out for the musical montage! I simply smooshed some of the Distress Ink colours I'd been using onto the mat, wet my scrabbly old brush in the water jar, mixed up the inks and spattered them. You must have seen me spattering the white paint in other videos... so just like that but with watery inks instead! So happy you enjoyed them - I love the light and airy feel of these tags, and I was having so much fun I couldn't stop. Happy weekend to you.

You'll find the launch video link here in my Linktree - linktr.ee/w0rdsandp1ctures - and I know the stamps have been selling out quickly everywhere. But there are several shops in NL who are stocking them (the PaperArtsy stockist list is in the video description, listed alphabetically by country), so if you let them know you are waiting then they will reorder more quickly. Or I know there are other Dutch customers who have ordered from nearby stores in France etc with hopefully not too much more postage. So happy that you are enjoying the videos here. What is the white matt you’re putting your ink on to?

It's a Wow Premium Embossing Mat, made by a UK company, Wow Embossing Powders. But any silicone mat will do the job... you can buy those teflon baking sheets to use. I take one of those with me when I'm travelling to use as my craft mat - eg. www.amazon.co.uk/selizo-Teflon-Sheet-Transfer-Resistant/dp/B07MHXHH85?th=1

Stunning and inspiring, love watching you create as you are so enthusiastic! I tried to order the two sets EAB 39 and 40, I could view it but not on your site to order. Every time I put in the order number it said it could not be found!? 😢

PaperArtsy don't stock the latest releases on their own website until 3 - 6 months after the launch, as they work hard to support independent craft retailers by giving them a period of exclusivity in an increasingly difficult industry in competition with multinationals like Amazon etc. The PaperArtsy worldwide stockist list is in the video description, listed alphabetically by country (I've also added it below), so you should be able to find some near you. Not all PaperArtsy stockists carry all PaperArtsy products (they have so many different designers and styles of stamps, not to mention the brilliant Fresco paints), so if you have trouble tracking mine down, let me know where you are based, and hopefully I can point you in the right direction. Not all PaperArtsy stockists stock all PaperArtsy products (they have so many), but in the US you can usually find my designs at Everything Mixed Media (listed as Everything Scrapbook & Stamps), Frantic Stamper, Topflight Stamps, Simon Says Stamp... as well as others on the USA list. I'm not sure where you're looking, but if you follow the PaperArtsy stockist list in the video description, you'll find their stockists listed alphabetically by country. Having had a quick glance, some of my stamps are in stock at Loobicrafts, some are in stock at Country View Crafts. Stampers Grove usually have them. They have been selling very well, so if the stockist you want to buy from is showing them as sold out, you need to let them know you are interested so that they know to restock. Hope that helps.

Sorry you didn't get what you were expecting, but this technique is widely known in the craft world as "watercolour stamping" because you are using water and colour and stamping with them. You could absolutely do it by painting watercolour paints onto your stamps... why not have a play yourself? There will be actual watercolour paints involved in next week's technique, but I'm not stamping with them. Have a good Sunday.
