Damn - we've got the holy trinidad here. FJC on the firmware, Candle on the hardware, and Phaeron emulating it while in dev! 1st day buy for sure.

Your LG display on that 600XL is very sharp!

This 600XL actually has VBXE but I was running the display off the legacy video jack. I did a Supervideo mod on this machine and it just goes to show how good Y/C video can be on the 600XL (it's probably the best of all the Ataris once things are tweaked a little). The monitor is a real favourite of mine, too. This is my second M227WD and I even bought a third as a spare!

The Side2 is such a great product, it is no surprise to me it takes awhile to improve on it. I will surely buy one and probably several. I've got three side2s now. My personal feeling is that every Atari deserves a U1MB, Side2(III), or an Incognito in the case of the 800.

7:35 the Stewie reference lol, I know the feeling on projects taking longer than i'ed like. Looks great though I never grew up with the Atari 8-bit but I really like the hardware after repairing a 65XE.

Yes: I'm not really one to talk here since my Graphical OS started in 2011 still isn't finished. :) Good work repairing that 65XE: always satisfying giving an old machine a new lease of life.

Hardware change suggestion... Replace the two switches with dupont headers for ATX style switches to be mounted remotely. .. For example .. on the door of a 400/800.

You mean the cartridge image or extensions? In both cases (using the most recent loader: v.0.27) - yes: they work.

Dumb questions? Can you SAVE/LIST BASIC programs to SD card (SIDE3) as if it were a disk drive or cassette? Will this fit into a 400? Since it has built-in RAM, will a 600XL be able to use that extra memory as if it's been expanded? (PRINT FRE(0).... 64K!) Thanks.

600XL ends its RAM at 0x3FFF, cartridges map their ROM/RAM starting at 0x8000 up to 0xBFFF, so you would end with 32k with a hole in the middle - not a perfect solution

This 600XL happens to have 64K of base RAM (an easy modification), and Ultimate 1MB. If you can solder a couple of wires (and bearing in mind all 600XLs are fully socketed), you can upgrade the RAM from 16K to 64K without problems (see videos elsewhere on this channel). Regarding saving/loading files: absolutely. You'll be able to use SIDE3 'stand-alone' as a hard disk with SpartaDOS X (which can load a suitable driver from the cartridge ROM), or alongside Ultimate 1MB, in which case the hard disk is fully bootable with the DOS of your choice. Hard disk partitions then just behave like (large) regular disks. You can also (with U1MB) boot disk images (ATR files) dropped into a FAT partition on the SD card.

You can also use SIDE2 to save/list/load Atari BASIC / Turbo BASIC programs with the buildin spartados X. I use my SIDE2 to change some old Atari BASIC games to work better with the SIDE2 emulated harddrive capabilities (sub directories/etc)
