This is the full length video from the morning my fishing rod got pulled in. Did I get it back? Was the fish still on the line?
This was actually a fantastic fishing morning. The fish were really switched on, although the average size was very small, the smallest this season. I do not care though, I was fishing and I was having a blast!

The turtle man is at it again hahaha! If you want to bait fish and lure fish at the same time, that's when bells come into their own, they are incredibly useful in that scenario. I'm so glad you got your rod back mate that's incredible, well done! Is that called a reverse Corker? LOL! The old net-hand-wet system is something I use quite a lot, it works well. Exactly why I have been using baitrunner reels in carp and cod waters Robbie! I always find using 6 to 8 lb line gets more bites than heavier line as well. 4 lb only needs to touch a snag and its down to 2 lb nearly instantly! Baitrunner saved a rod from going into a deep channel when I hooked a 4 kg carp-getting to old to do dives down banks🤣
@robbiefishing
@robbiefishing 3 жыл бұрын
haha Thanks buddy. A few people have asked me why I didn't dive, and my answer has been "Because it's not 1992" hahaha I agree 100%. A few people have questioned why I only use 6lb line. People who use heavier line get their bait stolen a lot more often because they never even detect the tiny nibbles.

Amazing stuff Robbie and great job on your rod retrieval. I once lost the top end of one of my 2 piece rods after I got a snag. I was stepping over it and some how I kicked it and all I saw was it doing a helicopter straight into the drink. I then went home and my dad help make a large hook attached to a rope. But I had to wait a couple of months before I could get it because the water was to high and fast. I managed to get it back though which was amazing. Also in the mean time I got a new rod for my birthday so it was like a blessing in disguise haha. Awesome work mate and keep it up.

I've got a ripper for getting a rod back. We were at the 3 mile creek inlet @ Menindee, I lent my mate a rod to use as his broke and I always carry spares. Night time came and we were getting so many bites we stopped checking the rods (fair hike to and from the rods when the water was low) about a half an hour later I went down to check the lines and there was a missing rod, it was my spare. My mate bought me a new one as he felt bad. At work about 6-8 months later I was talking to a guy and he said he found a fishing rod poking out of the water on the weekend, I described the rod and reel I'd lost, same kit as he'd found. He cleaned up the reel (rod was buggered) and brought it back into work for me, the reel now sits on my fishing display cupboard 🤣

I realise that you like to keep things pretty simple with rigs, but regarding paternoster rigs I have found that if I know that I am going to be fishing in a snaggy spot, I tie the paternoster with a 3 way swivel. The idea is to use extra light line to tie from the swivel to the sinker (attached with an overhand loop), and this becomes sacrificial, as its usually the sinker that gets snagged, you can snap it off and retrieve the rest of the rig if you get snagged.

Hey robbie, you could have your drag set to 1.5 kilos,1/3 of breaking strain, can use scales to correct drag. That way a fish will still be hooked but won't drag your rod in, imagine a massive murray cod grabbing your bait, you would lose fish of a lifetime and your rod. Rob is there any free camping areas up around your way.?im thinking of bringing my daughter up at Christmas. Always take my rubbish away! Thank you

I don't fish two rods unless I leave the farthest one with the bail arm off of drag right off for that very reason ..I catch big black bream in Tassie sometimes well over a kilo . I use Shimano gear and easily a thumper bream can drag it in in a heartbeat ..Never lost a rod but on a couple of occasions in the past the rod has been fully submerged and also 2-3 times all but the grip..and that's when quite close . The Tassie black bream are powerful fish and the big ones love snags and structure like trees , rocks and jetty's etc...I've caught four 400 mm or better ..and at least a dozen 370-390 plus in the past couple of months...All on bait ..

@@robbiefishing ..Yep...Best year I've had for a while..My Catana and Sienna rods are perfect for precise fishing around tight spots ..makes all the difference.. Love Shimano nowadays ...Decent size silver trevally 300-320 mm pretty common and cocky salmon can sometimes have a bit of size in the Scamander River estuary also by yours truly ..The main bait is prawns , prettyfish and crabs .Others use soft plastics and do okay .One day recently I found a spot I had never fished before ..In the first five minutes I got snapped off twice and they absolutely smashed me ...I did land some 2 pounders later on but the two that broke me off were substantial fish ..Also in the river are huge chub mullet ..I've seen them often at least 700 mm but near as dammit uncatchable ..just not interested in lures very often ..Also we get sea runner trout occasionally , rock cod (nice eating too ) and grey mullet ..Nuisance fish is the toad fish and big eels .. Loving your videos Robbie...very fun to watch ...
