However, if you put please at the end of a sentence, it is a courteous order not a polite, courteous question. "Pass the butter, please". See? My mind was blown! :P And yes Please and Thank You (or Thanks) is an awesome courteous phrase :D

@@miloraddjurdjic1695 I think the "teddy bear" thing is a misinterpretation on the part of those who have been around real manly men. To me, where I draw the line of when I became a man was the point where I could be kind and civil with folks but draw a hard line when it was needed instead of having a bad attitude and being passive aggressive like a kid. When I did the latter, people saw me as a jerk (they were right), but when I moved on to being civil and not so easily moved to anger, people would say "Oh that Jake is a big teddy bear, he wouldn't hurt a fly." That's a gross misinterpretation of my behavior because the people that say that are not generally the people I would have any sort of conflict with.

Soooo I actually considered buying gold bars and keeping them locked away somewhere. As the first things to decline in a GFC are the value of assets. So gold bars would go up in price.. right? So yes I have considered the idea of burying gold in my backyard. But considering I rent in a unit... it would be hidden under my bed rofl. I have not had the heart to do this though.

If you invested $1 in the S&P 500 in 1802, it would be worth $599,605 today. If you invested the same amount in gold, you'd have 82 cents.
@TheRealPhreakShow7 жыл бұрын
Only if the dollar you invested was in something that didn't fail... To say "invest in the S&P" is like saying "invest in the Dow", or "invest in the NASDAQ". Not to mention the fact that you wouldn't have invested in gold in 1802, you simply would have used it as currency. And I think your numbers are a bit off as well. Gold in 1802 was worth $0.68 a gram ($19.39/oz) whereas today it's worth $45.30/gram ($1284.36/oz).So to say that gold has lost value is simply untrue. And you would have also had over a hundred extra years of investment with gold, since the S&P wasn't born until 1923.

@FMichael19709 жыл бұрын
Personally I prefer the Lagavulin 16 yr over the Laphroaig 10 yr (the only one I've had), and the Ardbeg 10 yr, and Ardbeg Uigeadail. The Laga 16 has a nice mix of campfire smoke, sweetness, rich flavor, and at 43% abv it isn't a 'mouth burner' that some other higher abv malts can be.
@FMichael19709 жыл бұрын
***** Are you in the UK, or Europe? The reason I ask is because I'm in the States, and my Laphroaig 10 yr is bottled at 43% abv...The Laga 16 yr is also their 'basic' scotch so to speak, but for me - it's well worth the extra $15 to $20.
@iainjames039 жыл бұрын
White oak is predominantly used - though there are still many malts that mature in european (or 'red') oak. Either way - for Scotch, anyway - the barrels have always had something else in it prior to being used to mature the new-make spirit.

I also totally agree that people have really lost the whole build it your self skills. People thought I was crazy when I said I was going to build my own cabinets. I thought it was not even close to the most difficult things I've done and it only cost me $1800. My cabinets are now all solid wood with plywood where needed. The place that I got a quote from wanted $10000 for cabinets not built to my specifications and not using plywood where needed. They were going to make the boxed out of particle board. I stood up and said "fine I'll build it myself". I've renovated everything in my house, built a sun room, a shed, a deck, and a 2.5 car enclosed garage with a green house on it's roof.

I'm pretty sure Sam Grobart doesn't know the difference between a standard screwdriver and a phillips head. Secondly, I'd be pretty embarrassed if I wore glasses as stupid as those in front of Nick Offerman.

I'd have thought bloomberg news would be able to spell "whisky" correctly. Scotch whisky. American whiskey.

Every parent in NY and LA should send their children to Nick for a week.

Had an adult man working for me that asked if I had "one of these L shaped things" (allen wrench). He didn't get it when I replied, "No, mine are all 7's". Sad and funny at the same time.

OK. First of all, don't wear yellow glasses. Second. DON'T WEAR YELLOW SUNGLASSES. Third. You're not licensed to have a conversation with Nick, go home.

fitting that American white oak is his favorite wood, since it's used to make the barrels to age is favorite whiskey. (along with most other whiskies)

Really? Oak instead of maple? Interesting choice...

Tyler Langan Oak is father of whisky. Maple is the bitch of pancakes.

Depends... I think maple is more resilient against the grain. Also has a warm glow where oak is pretty poverty.

Grow a big beard, eat some bqq, drink some bourbon, punch a hipster or a swagger in the mouth, the spill your seed into a woman. 5 steps on being a "man"

The white oak tree is my favorite tree as well. For lack of a better way of saying it. It's the most tree looking of all the trees around here.

I avoid watching videos featuring Nick Offerman without a moustache, I will flat out leave the room if somebody tries to surprise me with a moustache-less Nick Offerman
