I Love being on this journey with you. Thank You. in the 19th century there was a significant French Population in New England as the French came down from Quebec to work in the textile mills which were the backbone of Industry in the 1800s in this aria of the country. I am a descendant of the Quebecois and Acadien immigrants and refugees (Acadian) to the New England area (Massachusetts primarily, but also Vermont and New Hampshire). I don't believe any of my family ended up in Rhode Island or Maine, but perhaps I just haven't found them yet (I'm an amateur genealogist). As for Woonsocket RI, however, my husband's father was born there and many generations before him not only back to the founding of the town, but to Providence Plantation and the founding of Rhode Island. My husband and kids have three sets of direct great grandparents who were the Founding Fathers & Mothers of Rhode Island. (And on my mom's side of the family, back to the French in Canada, they also go back to the founding with the trappeurs, soldiers, and first farmers marrying [and "mating" with, as my phone's autocorrect just tried changing "marrying" to lol!] Les Filles à Marier and Les Filles du Roi, which were both population-boosting programs put forth by the government in France.)

The USS Constitution is a frigate , still commissioned in the US Navy. American frigates were built much stronger than the British and French frigates, with more guns, so they were somewhere between a frigate and a Ship of the Line, which was the largest warship of the time.

Some of the U.S. frigates built in 1797 (especially the Constitution) were slightly bigger than British ships of the same class. The U.S. ships were a sort of "frigate-plus." They were not able to go toe-to-toe with full-sized British ships of the line, but they could give a British frigate a pretty good mauling in the War of 1812. The Constitution was one-third larger than the H.M.S Guerriere and had a main gun deck with 24-pounders to the British ship's 18-pounders. So, that's how that battle went.

Marie, you're lucky to have had that place all to yourself! When I was there it was jam packed full of people! In fact, I've never seen the waterfront look so deserted. You really are fortunate to have had the views all to yourself, though I'm sure the weather was a big contributor to that. If it had been blue sky, you would have likely seen far more people. I never saw the Boston Public Library, and it's awesome that you got a chance to see it! It's funny, you're mentioning that you're seeing people wearing shorts and sandals when it's cold outside. Some people just have a better tolerance to cold than others. They just don't feel it, so why not wear something comfortable? I once talked to a guy who was sweating, walking around in shorts and sandals and he was slipping on frozen water on the sidewalk. I asked him how he could possibly be sweating. He said that he just got there from the North Slope of Alaska where it had been -45 degrees. He said, it felt like Summer to him! We both laughed. Thanks for bringing us all along on your adventures and as always, keep smiling!

Constellation had about half the guns and only about 2/3rds the displacement of Constitution. But it's a bit of a cube-square problem; the extra 50% displacement won't make Constitution seem much bigger. It's about 20 feet longer, exclusive of the bowsprit. A new yummy restaurant , mothership revival kitchen opened up a few months ago. Harvard's iconic , one of the oldest & most prestigious since puritan John harvard founded it in 1636 . It's definitely worth wandering around for its beautiful & charming architecture. There's a fella Oliver , a funny senior who takes guided tours & shares all about student life if he's still there. It's adorable coming across a bench for loving couples like that. Old Ironsides remarkably well persevered for its age , impressive cannon's , alot of interesting info bringing history alive. Signed by Washington , it's one of six frigates that built the US navy & took three attempts before setting sail on Oct 21 , 1797 to the Caribbean in the quasi war between Britain & France , the first action by the US navy to protect its shipping abroad , you can find more about the timeline at the museum website. It's something else seeing shrapnel , i guess they attacked because of what it symbolises. The museum had superb exbits apart from the DEI nonsense , honourable merit & being all American will always win out no matter what the lefty's say about their failing ideology , just look at what's happening with Hollywood & Boeing , i didn't mean to go on FF. I liked the Lego ship , it would be fun if you made something like that for a video someday ( Ventura county in California has among the best model ships in the country to) the uniform looked brand new , the interactive hologram was cool , we'll have them in our homes before you know it for better or worse , a new way to get together no matter where we are. They sure can't get enough of all 🥯 there , that's a big one , so scrumptious 😋 , i need to try out the recipe for breakfast. The public library was spectacular , truly like a palace with its grand staircase & olde paintings , I've never seen a 📖 the likes of it before.It's interesting coming across the ties to Louis Philippe , I'm wondering if Boston has much of a french speaking community anymore , there's plenty of french restaurants. It's a joy being taken along like always , I'm intrigued about what other sights you've discovered , looking forward to it. My first time on board the CONSTITUTION was in 1942 during W. W. 2. My Aunt took my brother and I to CHARLESTOWN navy yard one day and while we were amazed at the size of the ship, my Aunt was getting smiles from all the sailors. Ha ! My brother ended up working on the ship as a rigger in 1957 and '58 and told me about all the rotted timber that they replaced with new white pine I think. Also, the museum was on the ship in every room and eventually was moved to the onshore museum. There was no security in those years even though it was probably easy to steal some souveniers, we never heard of any theft of artifacts. Thanks for listening.

The constitution is a decent ship for its time. Originally launched in 1797 but was quickly overhauled for the war of 1812. The ship was nicknamed old Ironsides for her ability to resist canon fire. It was permanently docked in 1907 as a museum ship. Constitution was retrofitted several times over the years to at least modern standards although its fighting days are over. It’s a good practice ship for naval cadets to train on as the ship is quite slow and has no real steering besides the wind and maybe paddles. The constitution barely moves out of port meaning it’s not going to move.

My favorite of all the donuts. I hope you get to see some of the other New England states on this trip. It really is a beautiful region.

The USS Constitution is actually a Heavy Frigate compared to the USS Constellation which is only a Frigate. 2,200 ton displacement compared to 1,265 tons of the Constellation. That's a big difference. I would say the difference you felt was that it was under repair and missing its masts, so in essence it was cut in half, from the top down. As someone who lives close to Boston, so glad you enjoyed your trip.

I love your channel. So glad I came across it. Come to Colorado sometime and I know you'll love it here. I grew up in Massachusetts, and my friend had her wedding at the Boston Public Library. It was all closed down just for them and it was a spectacular setting for a wedding. I can picture her in her dress on those beautiful marble stairs.

USS CONSTITUTION and USS CONSTELLATION are sister ships. They are the same size and design
@johnalden5821
@johnalden5821 5 ай бұрын
That would be true if you are talking about the original U.S.S. Constellation. However, that ship is not the one in Baltimore Harbor. The original U.S.S. Constellation was a heavy frigate like the Constitution. But it was decommissioned and dismantled in 1853. The Navy then recycled the name into a new ship in 1854, a sloop-of-war (still all-sail with no steam), which is the one in Baltimore. So the existing U.S.S. Constellation is almost 60 years newer than the U.S.S. Constitution. The existing Constellation was not on active commission for very long because it became outclassed by more modern ships. For some time, it was confused with the original Constellation, until accurate records were found and the issue was cleared up in the 1990s.

LOL, being a lifelong Massachusetts resident, I literally laughed out loud about your comment about people wearing shorts in cold weather. Yup, you see that all the time here. :-) (I'm not one of them. If it's cold, damn it, it's cold :-) ). By the way, thank you for your love of my country. It's beautiful to see a foreigner to our shores, love our land so.

If you want to visit large ships there are plenty but they are from WW2 and after. The USS Missouri, New Jersey, Wisconsin and Iowa are all WW2 battleships and they are quite large. The largest museum ships are however aircraft carriers like the USS MIdway, Hornet, Lexington, and Yorktown. Most notable is the USS Missouri BB-63. She resides at Pearl Harbor in the Hawaiian Islands. The Japanese Empire surrendered aboard her in 1945.

The USS Constellation is a 38 gun Sloop-of-War. The USS Constitution is a 44 gun heavy frigate. She is the bigger of the two. While the Brits will say that the HMS Victory is older, which is true, Victory has no masts, is in permanent dry-dock, and, will never sail again. The USS Constitution is still afloat, and, once her latest round of repairs are completed, will be able to sail.

I had to laugh....this last Saturday I went to the Sox game and the guy drumming on the buckets at the end of your video, was right outside Gate A. I threw him a buck! LOL! He gets around! By the way, your memory of the Constellation isn't accurate. The Constitution is significantly larger and with many more cannons. She is a frigate, where the Constellation is a sloop...a completely different class of ship. I absolutely LOVE your vids about my hometown. Boston is a special place.

The USS Constitution in Boston: Designed by Joshua Humphreys, the frigate USS Constitution was launched at Edmond Hartt Shipyard in Boston on October 21, 1797. Completed at a cost of $302,718, it carried a crew of 450 to 500 men, measured 204 feet in length with a beam of 43.5 feet and displaced 2,200 tons of water. The USS Constellation in Baltimore: Constellation is 181 feet (55 m) long at the waterline and 199 feet (61 m) long overall. She has a beam of 41 feet (12 m) at the waterline, and is 43 feet (13 m) across at her widest point. Her maximum draft is 21 feet (6.4 m) at a full load displacement of 1,400 long tons (1,422 t). The ship's crew numbered 21 officers and 265 enlisted men. So the Constitution is slightly larger than the Constellation, but definitely not "much larger". It did however carry a significantly larger crew.

Welcome to Boston, a suggestion if you come again ride the t but get off at each stop especially the red line going to and past Harvard. I think if I view this right you went directly to Harvard and skipped areas like Beacon Hill, Central , Porter and Davis Squares, all have a very different feeling to each other. Same applies in the opposite direction from downtown red and orange lines in particular. And yes we wear shorts unless its subzero or snowing (and even then think twice about it).
