Hi there, Robert! Oh wow, thank you for the information on the things I didn't recognize! I've never tried rose hip soup, but now I'd like to. I use rose hip seed oil in my skincare routine, and it smells so good! My friends and I had the time of our lives in Stockholm and enjoyed every minute of the trip. What a beautiful city! We only wished we had more time that we could have seen other parts of Sweden! I am hoping to come back one day soon with Michael and see Uppsala, Gothenburg, and of course northern Sweden. I'd really love to rent a car and drive as far north as I can! I met some really nice Swedish people from Umeå at the Viking bar in Gamla Stan. They were seated at my table and ended up hanging out with some other Americans until the restaurant closed, and then we moved on to a bar. They were lovely and so friendly! I must have gotten on their nerves with my constant questions about Sweden. I've always felt like Sweden was a home away from home, because I grew up with the Pippi Longstocking book and movie (although I found out later in life that the movie I watched was filmed here in Florida where I live now, instead of in Sweden, so that's a bummer!). Umeå is somewhere I would love to visit when I come back to Sweden. The woman I met told me the train ride is really pretty and only takes a few hours, so I will for sure come! Hi Willie! WOW that is so interesting!! I had no idea this was a monument for someone with such a history in the US. I wish I'd been able to find out who he was while we were in Stockholm and I would have looked him up. It's always so fun to me to find connections to my home country or state when traveling in a new place. We have quite an extensive railroad history in Florida where I live now, which I've recently become interested in learning more about, so very cool that his brother was doing so much for the Swedish railway system. That would be awesome!! I would absolutely love to come back to Sweden some day! I had wanted to see Sweden my whole life, since growing up with the Pippi Longstocking book and movie (which ironically I learned recently was actually filmed here in Florida, not too far from where I live haha). I wished we could have seen more of your beautiful country, but we were only in Stockholm for a few days because my friends were going to the Hockey games back in November. Michael wasn't on this trip, so he & I are hoping to come back one day soon in the future and rent a car and see many more places in Sweden outside of Stockholm, although Stockholm is certainly a beautiful city with sooooo much to see and do. We did sooo many museums and enjoyed all of them! I'll have to look more into Sweden's history of colonizing in the United States! I didn't realize Sweden ever made it over here, I thought it was mostly Denmark heading west! :)

Hi Steamboat! Sadly no, we didn't have time to visit the Astrid Lindgren museum :(. It was something I did really want to do, but I was with a group of friends and we were prioritizing what the group wanted to do. It's definitely on the to-do list for whenever I can make it back! We did visit the Vasa Museum. - that was AMAZING! I've never seen anything like that in my life! I did an entire video just on the footage I took of the Vasa Museum that came out a few weeks ago, if you want to check it out. I had about 10 minutes of footage and waaaaaaaay more to say about the Vasa than I could fit in 10 minutes, so I had to abbreviate my script a whole lot to fit the footage. I got quite a few comments from Swedish people adding more things that I didn't know or learn doing my research. What an incredible museum that was! Definitely something to be proud of!

Hi there Steamboat Willie! Oh wow, Carl Bellman was a composer, not a poet. That was my mistake. I'm reading his Wikipedia page right now, and you're right, he did both but sounds like he was more heavily involved with music than just plain poetry. How sad that he didn't get to see how popular his music became 200 years later. Thank you so much for sharing! I always know if a statue was made of someone, they must be really important and definitely worth exploring a little further.

If you search on youtube for one of his songs, like "märk hur vår skugga" (Was made into a hit in 1985 by the rockband "Imperiet" and reached no. 2. It's been covered in English by "Candlemass", "Marduk" and the US metal band 'While Heaven Wept') you'll find dozens of recordings by various artists. One song of his have been performed by students since the 1700's. (Fredmans song no. 21, or "Så lunka vi...")

I will look this up!!! Usually when I can't sleep at night, I start looking things up that I heard about during the day on KZfaq, so hopefully by tomorrow I will have heard of this song and can give you a better reply than this. My friends & I chose to do this trip walking the entire time, which did limit how far we were able to go, but we felt like we were able to thoroughly see the places we went. We did see them setting up the Gamla Stan Christmas market on our last day, which was nice. Stockholm is such an absolutely beautiful city, so clean, so walkable.. part of the reason we chose to walk everywhere was how wide, clean, & nice the public sidewalks are. By far the most walkable city I’ve ever been to! I’m so glad you enjoyed this video, we did have an amazing trip and I hope I’m able to come back again soon. Relaxed, intelligent and aware (like more deep cut and real attention to detail) and so pleasant at the same time. Also the first American tourists I've seen that opted to walk the whole time, that is kind of impressive when it would have been so easy to hop on any mode of public transport, and it being winter too! Not even Swedes would do that! Like you say, you got to take in the surroundings and details more, soak it all in. Hi Guinevere! Wow, thank you so much for the compliments on the how I did the videos, I'm so honored that you enjoyed them so much! I can't say enough how amazing Stockholm was and how much I enjoyed every minute of my time there. We arrived planning to purchase a metro pass or use public transit the whole time, but as soon as we realized how walkable your city is, we knew we had to take advantage of that. Not all cities in the US are anywhere near this nice and walkable. Charlotte, North Carolina, where I used to live, was nice downtown; but the neighborhoods had poorly maintained sidewalks or even none. Where I live in Melbourne, Florida, the sidewalks are mostly extremely narrow and in bad shape. I just gaped at how wide, clean, and smooth the sidewalks were in Stockholm and knew right away I was going to walk as much as possible haha. We did check out the metro system on our last day there because we'd heard about all the artwork in the stations, and that was really cool! But ultimately, even if it meant we maybe saw fewer things, we were all 3 glad that we chose to walk the whole trip. As cold as it was in November, the exercise helped keep us warm. Plus it meant we could enjoy a few extra cinnamon buns! :). By the way, I thought I knew what a good cinnamon bun was before this trip, but I haven't eaten one since I came home. Sweden OWNS cinnamon buns!!!!! Wow! :)

Oh interesting! I thought I got the fact that it was a farmhouse from the sign out front, although I was taking pictures and videos at the same time and maybe the picture went with a different building than I thought it did when I got back home and was editing. Thank you for correcting my mistake! :). It definitely looks like it would function as a community court house better than a family home haha.

@@michaelandjulie Well, it was about half the family home of the magistrate and his servants in winter. Just like the post office was both home for the Postmaster, and office of the Royal Postal Service.

oh cool! Very interesting! I think "back in the day," a lot of homes doubled as the workspace of the family's business. In the US, it was common for families to live in the upstairs floor of funeral homes!

Hi Mustang! This was my favorite day in Sweden, so obviously the most fun day to vlog and edit. It's hard to believe how much we packed into one full day! I'm still working on the Vasa vlog. I only took 9 minutes of footage in the museum, and then I scripted out what I wanted to say about the Vasa, and it's like 20 minutes of talking! So somehow I have to cut the script down (there's not one thing I want to take out of it!) or stretch the footage out. Who knows, I'll figure something out! Hoping to get that video out in March also. I'm so pleased you're enjoying the Sweden videos!!!

Oh okay, very interesting! I'm actually kind of glad I didn't film the house. I'd hate for anybody to think I was trying to sneak up on a member of ABBA! We were just out for a walk, waiting for the museums to open up at 10:00am, and taking sidewalks through beautiful neighborhoods. We visited so many beautiful neighborhoods on this trip, but Djurgården was probably my favorite. So lovely!

Yes, ”säl” in Swedish. You call them seals in the US as well. I think this is a harbor seal. We have three species of seal in Sweden (also grey seals and ringed seals). Otters have more of a dog’s nose and visible ears. 🇸🇪 ”utter”

Yes, they are cute, aren’t they? The harbor seal is knubbsäl in Swedish, which translates to chubby seal. 😁 We have seals along the entire coastline of Sweden. I think the harbor seal is mainly found on the west coast and the southern Baltic. You can see grey seals in the Stockholm archipelago and ringed seals in the northern Baltic. Can’t remember last time I saw a seal in the wild, though.

…and technically you never claimed that these were otters, like “these are clearly seals, and by the way, otters are my spirit animal”
