We've been discussing different chores and routines for the past few weeks in our Home Management Series (if you've missed any of the videos, see the link below). Now to wrap it all up, even though there are rarely "typical" days on a Homestead filled with animals and eleven children, here's a general look at what might happen on a normal day around here.

We are all created equal. God has given everyone of us 24 hours in everyday and the right to make decisions and choices on what we will do with those 24 hours each day. Our children are grown and we did not start our Homestead until after we were empty nesters. We are learning to do for ourselves many things which I wish we had been able to teach our children. There is no higher quality of life than the one she describes in this video. It's filled with love, sharing, Joy, production, hard work, earned rewards, excitement, adventure, peace and serenity. No crack pipe, yacht, grand job, or elected office could come anywhere near to the spectacular life she is describing.

Carolyn, as a young mom who lives out in the country I have enjoyed your videos so much! I would really love it if you would do a video for moms that have multiple younger kids who are in a different season. I bet you would have some wonderful organizational advice! ♡

Our day looks very similar to yours. I’m glad to know other families also embrace quiet time. I’m a person who needs a lot of alone time for my own sanity and it can be so hard to get with a 5 and 3yo. Quiet time allows me to just be for an hr or two. It gives me the energy I need to get things done in the evenings. And honestly I believe it makes me a better and more patient mother. I always recommend it to my friends who struggle with the exhaustion that parenting brings.

We have five little girls ages 3, 4, 6, 8 & 9 and are in our fifth year of homschooling. I definitely need more quiet time for myself but it is extremely hard to find with so many littles!

This whole series is brilliant. Thank you so much! Here, three hardest part of the day starts after dinner/around that 6pm time. Can you do a video of what evenings and bedtime look like in your home? How do you transition from after-dinner fun time to getting everyone asleep with a house still ready for the morning--and a minute of quiet for you before bed?

Great video! Thank you for sharing! I was wondeting if you make your own laundry detergent? It has been years since I made my own ( hubby didn't like it) I am looking to start again, but now we live on a larger homestead and want a laundry detergent recipe that works on dirt and homesteading life 😀

I love your videos! The first one I saw was about waterglassing eggs and it was so helpful. I have a couple of questions. What time do you milk and what time is bed time for the older kids and adults if you're getting up at 4:30-5:00?

I love your videos, just found them, and I’ve been so encouraged by them. I’ve tried many times to have a schedule but it did feel like a dictator over my. I’m praying for that to lift and to embrace structure. I have a QUESTION: DOES YOUR SCHEDULE CHANGE IN WINTER MONTHS? ie CHICKEN DON’T GO OUT AT THE SAME TIME ANYMORE AND SUCH. Or DO YOU KEEP THE SAME SCHEDULE YEAR ROUND? I would also love to see the layout of your home. We have 7 children 18-4 and I realize how much space is needed for us and we don’t really have all the stuff that mainstream has. I would assume you have little to no wasted space.

Carolyn, I am sorry for hijacking this video thread but wanted to get some advice on my cast iron seasoning from an earlier and thought if I placed it on your new video it would more likely be seen. I did as you suggested and used the oven cleaning function to clean 4 of my cast iron which had some significant hot spots in order to make them better seasoned. I am left with 4 pans now which are totally rusty which will not scour off w steel wool. Smooth but rusty. They were totally dry and had no rust beforehand. What now? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. Even a brand new Lodge griddle which I like to season because they arent smoothly seasoned but bumpy from the factory. Grrr.

That's such a good flow of the day. QUESTION- How do you get teens from wanting to sleep in every morning? We have a set bedtime between 9:30-10. We've tried so many things, but nothing has worked. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Teenagers need a lot of sleep, their bodies are going through a significant change. I've read that 8-10 is normal...sometimes even 11.

@@cadesgranny Instead of letting them sleep in late, they have the option to go to bed earlier and still get in their 8-10 hours of sleep. Also, you will find when your teenagers are working hard and are productive, they will want to go to bed earlier. Eliminating electronics a few hours before bedtime helps their brains to unwind.

I just want to cry, we could do this and statue it's what we need in or family.. my middle child 10 female love schedules at her school at home it's like between her daddy and I we kinda like her room the show.. any tips on how to help free spirited kids help the family work out allot of fights

What do you do when you have a child that doesn't like doing a chore say like doing dishes or cleaning the bathroom and it takes them 2 hours to do something that should take 20 minutes?

I guess if you grew up that way you are used to it, but if I was thrown into that I would feel like I was on a 9 to 5 and have to get it done by a certain time and stressed.

Tonya you are so right. Sounds like a labor camp for kids. When do they get to just hang out? Be on the computer? Education? Nice to see someone else who feels the same way. There should be a law to protect children from being used for free labor by their parents.

Im in no way attacking anyone, I just strongly disagree with their methods, simply bc my dad had a second family & I am 9 & 11 years older than my sister's and I raised then while I lived at home, along w8th all their mothers chores. I was Cinderella & I've harbored resentment, in certain aspects of certain things, for my entire 45 years. Now, my youngest sis & I live directly across the street from each other, a few hours away from where we grew up. Children shouldn't be expected to behave as adults at all times, and raise the children their parents race to produce

@@truthserum76 Tonya I wish people like us would be more vocal. There is always an army of parents to talk about how slave labor "teaches the kids to be responsible" , when in fact, they are just getting out of their OWN responsibilities by forcing them off onto the kids. If kids really need these so called "life skills" when they grow up they can always take a course in home-ec, but in fact, almost anyone can figure this stuff out in one week. It does not take a childhood of slave labor to teach a kid to wash a dish or run a vacuum cleaner. The real fault of all this lies with the psychologists who keep telling parents to force their kids to do chores. People like us need to get together and petition the psychologists to stop giving parents the excuse that dumping their work off onto the kids will "teach them responsibility". I hope you will keep speaking out. More than their side needs to be heard. By the way, I am a lot older than you, and it still effects my life in a negative way.

So true! It certainly doesn't take a lifetime to learn to wash a dish but the effects of forcing child labor can last a lifetime! Btw, I'm turning 45 this Aug😊 & my youngest child is turning 18 in June 😢

@@truthserum76 How could you have kids after having to raise them by force when you were a kid? I would never have a kid. Didn't want to go anywhere near that "domestic family" crap again. Never. I am sure you were kinder to her him/her than your parents were to you. Weren't you?
