Originally aired 6/20/1991. Our good contestant Mark gets a little too excited after winning a car on "Classic Concentration." This clip came from Joe Madigan's now-defunct classicconcentration.net website.

I am mark from the show and I own that car til this day. I conceived a set of twins in that fine piece of craftsman. The third cylinder is what got me my first wife and a non moving violation.

You're correct. I'm sure anyone who visits You Tube could find many videos that are of no interest to one's self, but that doesn't mean that that same video is valueless to others. That's the beauty of this site, that there is enough video here that we may all find what is of interest to each of us.

I only WISH Classic Concentration was still on. It was produced from 1987-1991, and was shown in reruns until 1993 in the US. Rumor has it that Sky One in the UK is airing it...

I even distinctly recall, as a kid, seeing Art James substitute host for Downs for a period. Also, in our family home we had two or three home versions of the game, which were produced by Milton Bradley, a company that, like Parker Brothers, is now owned by Hasbro, sadly exists only as a line name & not an actual company anymore.

The wire from his (very obsolete) clip-on microphone got caught on the rail. I think he's the only contestant in the history of the show that actually ran up to their new car.

No early in the run they did that too

@@jessyleppert2 Now that the entire series is being shown on Buzzr, I’m starting to see more and more of that-Alex would actually encourage the contestants to go up to their new car. It’s my understanding that the 1988-89 season wasn’t reran on NBC for whatever reason, so we’re seeing those episodes again for the first time. Quite a few “priceless moments” are resurfacing now! ❤️

I agree. If I were him, I would have tried for the Civic. He definitely would have had the extra time to do so. (And chances are, the Civic would still be running today.)

I frankly don't know why this other user became so fixated on this video. I mean, it's so benign relative to other video on this site which one really could find objectionable. Anyway, just to let you know, I find this video amusing & appreciate your uploading it. "Concentration" is a classic game. I only wish that more from the Hugh Downs-Bob Clayton years could be found.
@NDW8517 жыл бұрын
This must have been during the last 2 seasons of the show.
@gymnastix16 жыл бұрын
Actually, this version's title was a misnomer, because it was the Downs-Clayton version that was truly the "classic Concentration." If anything, the Trebek years could be called "Concentration Revisited."
@DrLove037817 жыл бұрын
I have no earthly idea. I got this clip from Joe Madigan's "Classic Concentration Home Page" back when it was active... but nowadays, he and his site are nowhere to be found.
@gymnastix16 жыл бұрын
Right, I have read this also, that NBC owns it. I think I even read somewhere that Hugh Downs himself bought the rights to the original "Concentration" and owned it ahile, to save it after Barry-Enright encountered difficulties after the quiz show affair.

I don't think that would have had anything to do with the show's cancellation -- there were certainly more expensive (and more powerful) cars that could have been won.
@DrLove037817 жыл бұрын
Now that I looked closer, a cord did get hung up on the rail, and that's definitely an obsolete wireless mic he's holding, when he's up there doing his "excessive celebration." We could hear his loud hoots and hollers even without the mic attached. I'm guessing this was from 1990 or 1991, because they didn't always display the contestant's grand total on screen.

I'm guessing that Mark was overly excited throughout the show, and it eventually annoyed Trebek. Since this footage was all that Joe Madigan provided from this episode, I don't know. Now that you mention it, Mark is the only one I remember actually running up to his new car, after he won it. Notice how he reaches back to the end of the rail, as he climbs the stairs... I'm guessing the car key was hanging on the end of it?
@markheying28305 жыл бұрын
Jason Lovelady I think that it’s possible that the Car Key could be there.
@DrLove037815 жыл бұрын
Might be a shitty car, but I bet it's still running today -- Japanese cars last almost forever. Its 3-cylinder engine isn't very powerful, but it does get around 50 miles to the gallon.

You know you're right. We don't have to watch these things if we don't want to, but in a way, we're like fish on a hook and this video is the hook; it's caught our attention and we're attracted to and by it. The hook is not inescapable though. We can get out of it if we want to, but in some cases, we choose not to because, like a stand-up comedian once said on an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson when talking about watching Jaws: The Revenge, we think it's going to get better; we think we might miss out on something big and wonderful. I may be wrong in saying this, but I think that is what the people who make TV shows now are banking on. You may not like them every single second, but you can't get them out of your head. You can't stop talking about them. It's like the old saying, "Curiosity killed the cat!" And guess who the cats are? By the way, your video doesn't bother me at all.
