Hilleberg Nammatj 2 Mesh Inner - 3 Season Conversion Kit
What it is : Hilleberg is renown for their 4 season tents; within this category of shelter, their tents are frankly the best of the best in terms of strength and storm worthiness.
While their 4 season tents excel in the winter time in cold conditions, those type of shelters are the opposite of what you want as the temperatures rise.
This is why;
Double wall 4 season tents feature a fabric inner like this and this fabric inner provides some true benefits when camping during the winter months.
It blocks wind drafts, blocks snow from entering the tent body, and it holds in heat.
Think of those properties for a moment;
Blocks wind drafts and holds in heat. This is the exact opposite of what you want in the summer when it is warm;
You want as much air flow as possible and you want warmth to be released instead of being trapped.
That’s where is product comes into play -
This is the Hilleberg Mesh Inner for the Nammatj 2 and the Nammatj 2 GT tents and it replaces the fabric inner so that this shelter can be used in the warmer months.
How important is this kit? That is a great question -
Without it, I would never use this tent in the warmer months….it’s absolutely miserable to do so.
It’s like this, you go camping with this tent or similar, you set it up and let's say that it’s 80F outside. Inside of the tent, it can easily be 20 - 30 degrees warmer and again, that’s because the fabric is hold in in heat and it’s limiting air flow.
Agenda Free Link : hilleberg.com/eng/shelters/me...
Nammatj 2 / 2 GT Mesh Inner Tent
Price : $285
Weight: 2lbs 2oz
Can be set up on its own when using the tent poles - requires 6 stakes to do so.
……..
Speak of how the fabric inner is removed and the mesh inner is installed
Compare weight of fabric inner and mesh - does the mesh weigh less?
Quality ?
Installation Difficulty?
Noticeable differences
Thoughts -
Worth the money - For those who plan to use their strong Hilleberg tent in the warmer months, this mesh inner is a no brainer as the benefits are massive.
A Hilleberg tent with a fabric inner in the summer is basically unusable in warmer conditions whereas with the mesh inner, it becomes a supremely strong tent that can be used in the 3rd season.
…..
Tent Availability : Akto, Anjan 2, 3, Allak, Enan, Helags 2, 3, Kaitum 2, 3, Soulo, Soulo BL, Staika, Nallo or Nallo GT 2, 3, or 4, Nammatj, Nammatj GT 2, 3, Rogen, and Unna tent.
Product Availability : unfortunately due to the shortages and limitations which many industries are facing today, the mesh inners for most Hilleberg tents are exceptionally hard to locate. In fact, I contacted Hilleberg about the Mesh Inners and they stated that their primary focus is on tents with very little on the inners.
Because of that, if something like this is something you are interested in, at least for now, you may have to wait or you may have to do some researching. These mesh inners are out there but will be hard to locate.
Thank you CJ; a viewer located this for me and I am incredibly grateful.

Hi Luke, I also nave a Nammatj but the 3 person version. I have a small hack that also helps with the venting on this tent. At the back of the tent are 2 metal steak out rings. If you attach a guy to each of those about a meter long and then steak them out, it lifts the bottom of that part of the fly by about 4-5”. It also allows a tighter extension of of the fly, so even if it is driving rain it won’t hit the inner tent. Works a treat for getting some air flow in from the bottom of the tent. Great videos. Nick

I love Hilleberg products. Even though they are expensive if you want the very best, go no further than Hilleberg. The Nammatj saved my life and that of a friend in the German Alps whe we were caught in an unexpected snow storm. My car couldn't traverse the heavy snow so we parked off the highway as far as possible and set up the tent. We survived the storm. It took us hours to shovel my car clear of snow. A snow plow had to pull my car onto the road. I plan to buy another Hilleberg for next winter to keep in my van.

With the mesh inner, you can still use this tent in cold wintertime conditions & KNOW you have SHELTER from the strongest of COLD, WINDY wintertime storms. Excellent info about Hilleberg focusing their time/materials/employees on making tents, not inners. Big thanks to CJ for providing you with the almost impossible to get Inner mesh fabric. Most any Hilleberg product is something you'll want to bequeath to a relative or friend in your Will, definitely something to pass on after you pass on. You've got to KNOW all Hilleberg Employees will be smiling when watching this video. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada.

I've enjoyed watching your videos. There are so many interesting products these days. I learned backpacking as a Boy Scout in the 60s. Fortunately we had a scoutmaster who was a very experienced outdoorsman. We all learned to make fire without matches, safely camp in the winter, cook outdoors all while respecting the land. All with army surplus equipment. Eventually I acquired my own backpacking gear, but so much that's out there now wasn't even dreamed of back in those days. I'm 68 now and I'm afraid that camping these days has been reduced to where you can get the truck. I plan on watching more of your videos.

I did a bus tour of Ireland (and Northern Ireland) in 2019. Our bus driver/guide was out of Dublin. His bus driving ability and historical knowledge of Ireland was very impressive. Sometimes on those narrow roads you have over there especially in the Dingle peninsula I would think to myself as he went around a tight corner while at the same time giving us Irish history on the speaker he’s surely going to hit something, but he never did. The first thing he did as our group gathered in the bus for the first time was ask us if there were any English people present, there weren’t, he said good, now I can give you the true Irish history. I’m American, but my Irish dad would have appreciated that. Anyway as we were touring around the Irish countryside was very interesting to me as an avid hiker here in Northern California. I wouldn’t mind coming back and hiking some of the trails there. I don’t mind the rain, in fact I love how it keeps everything so green.

Perfect for "mountaineering", backpacking in western high elevations when extreme winds, and snowstorms can occur at basically ANY time! :D Expensive? Sure. But what's your life worth if you have to hunker down through hours or days of severe storms? :D Not in the price range for typical car camping and rare weekend campers/hikers, but that's not who it's marketed to. Looking forward to your real-life in-use reviews! :D

Commenting before I have watched the whole video. The Nammatj has some of the best ventilation of their 2P models. The front and rear vents allow significant airflow. This is not a 4th season only tent. But as always site selection is key, both for prevailing wind direction and for shade. A mesh inner isn’t necessary with the right knowledge. Which is good because if you call HB customer service they will tell you the soonest they expect to fulfill mesh orders is spring 2023. They are focusing on catching up with the order backlog for tents this year. All you’ve done is help people profiteering on the secondary market - which is exactly what you did several months ago with your Soulo video.

I live in the desert and it's so hot here that even with ventilation I can't be in the tent in the day time unless it's raining, but we keep our stuff in the tent so we can't take the fly off because the intense sun would fry our stuff sitting in the tent. But the fly makes it so stuffy when it's in the mid 90s out.

Sweet! Pretty much says it all. Hilleberg should charge $200 more for the tent and just include the mesh inner, problem solved. A 3-4 season solution all in one package or two, just saying. Expensive it is, as all Hilleberg products are or any top shelf premium gear for that matter but you do get what you pay for in outdoor equipment. Score...lucky you getting the mesh inner, nice. Since this mesh inner is unobtainium there's no need to review it as we can't get it, at least for the time being. When or if it becomes available, then you can do a review which will be more relevant at the time. Thanks for the look Luke👍

The barrel shape and support system of the Hilleberg 'wins the race.' This screen insert system is all that was missing to complete the package. In 'shoulder seasons', I would take the whole kit.

This is not designed for light summer use - it's a pretty narrow design (But I love mine). The better non-expedition tent is the Nalo. Better airflow and the front lets you open in the middle, the left side or the right, to catch the breeze much better. It's bomb proof - but not as tough if you go to the Alps or the Arctic in winter.

Happy for the Outdoor Gear Review team that folks watch these, I don't, once I hear Luke say that the equipment is very hard to get hand on, I turn off the video, don't have enough time to watch a review on something I will never get to own. That said, please continue to review those items normal folks can get their hands on, these are always well recieved, at least by me.

I wish they'd focus a little tiny bit more on making the mesh... This is exactly what I need.

You take it everywhere, anytime. It's a pro tent but not for the average weekend hiker.
