I am a volunteer with the Save Grange Lido Community Benefit Society which is working to restore the open air swimming pool in Grange Over Sands.
On 17th August 2022 I was lucky to be part of a small group which was allowed to visit the lido and enter the buildings to assess what is left over since closure and to identify objects worth archiving for an ongoing project. I was allowed to film.
This is a short 3 minute film looking inside just one of the buildings, the entrance and reception building. There is more footage to follow at a later date but this has turned into my 'Happy 90th Birthday' message for the lido which was officially opened on 18th August 1932. More lido details below...
The 18th August 2022 marks 90 years since the official opening of the Grange-Over-Sands bathing pool. It is the only surviving seaside Lido in the North of England.
Closed since 1993, this Grade 2 listed art deco pool is now finally receiving the attention it deserves.
Save Grange Lido CBS is working in partnership with South Lakeland District Council on a two-phase full restoration of the Lido to create a community owned leisure facility with a restored 50m pool.
South Lakeland District Council will soon be starting phase 1 building restorations in advance of the SGL phase 2 work to submit a planning application and to raise the funds necessary for the restoration. Follow Save Grange Lido CBS at
