Join me this week as I continue my trip from Mill Cottage, exploring the surrounding area. First, I head to Brockhampton Manor, a fabulous moated manor house before paying a visit to Stokesay Castle, one of the finest examples of a fortified medieval manor house in existence.

All that wonky beauty indeed and so heartening to see such careful restoration. We need people this dedicated now before all this history is lost. Even in an age where historic buildings are being bought by people who are in love with the idea unfortunately they just don't get it and are too quick to gut the inside, plaster over everything with gyprock and modern materials and paint 😢

Stokesay Castle was fantastic and I loved your casual remark, when showing us the basement, that the age was about 1080. That is incredible and I had to pause the video and just absorb that fact and look at every piece of wood and imagine what people were doing nearly 1,000 years ago. I doubt if houses built today would last that long. The Manor house was really special too. Thank you for your upload.

I did a work scheme under the tories here in the late 80,s . The moat had thousand of goldfish in it . One year a heron came and raised a family and they ate the lot . We did the forestry by the ponds and stream in frost so hard your hands cried . In those days it was all hand tools . Full week of graft for £45.

I would love to see your farmhouse, it must be amazing to renovate. In the US where I am from anything over like 50 yrs old, people think is ancient, we always tear things down, which I hate. I am on the coast of Maine and love old time charm, with flowers everywhere and my stonewalls that I have built. Nothing like the UK, but enough to give me that feeling. Enjoy your farmhouse, what stories it could tell...!

I sincerely admire that you Brit’s preserve your heritage so much. Including your cemeteries. We have a vast amount of space in Australia but some of our cemeteries feel the need for ‘renewal’ which basically means they are selling the space between graves. You may think it’s not so bad but the desecration and removal of graves stones is deplorable. Some are placed in another section , a lot are destroyed as there is no family to save them.

I have 2 estates less than 1 mile from my house that are from the Revolutionary War. That's as far back as we go. I'm in NY. In the mid states and west coast we can see native American Indian ancient dwellings, but they are not my blood heritage and I've never seen them nor do I desire to. You must come along over here some day and see these places for yourself. Come over, hire a car, pre - book a few Bed and Breakfast accommodation ( `normally significantly cheaper than hotels ) and sojourn away. The country is full of places like this. When I think of my Orcadian ancestors and the so-called 5000 year old houses of Skara-brae, I have to say it's difficult to believe. Nevertheless, one cannot deny, it's older than our minds can imagine and yet, it exists. Just imagine what lurks hidden bellow this thin top layer of earth and plant life.

Thank you Christine 😊 Both of these houses are wonderful aren’t they? I’ve only been a couple of times to each of them but I really do enjoy them. Have a wonderful bank holiday!
