For me the feeling of underwhelment on the announcement of the range was more that the video presentation felt rushed and lacked a little bit of hype. Looking at the releases, there's definitely a good few I want to build (Whitley, Hampden and Walrus for sure). Airfix will certainly get some business from me! Tbh with spending that little more time discussing each kit, I'm more hyped now for the range than with the original presentation. Perhaps Airfix should hire you for next year, lol. As always many thanks for all your efforts! 👍👍

One that has got my eye is the 1:600 HMS _Ajax_ (22), but my plan is to modify it into her younger (and slightly cosmetically different) sister of HMAS _Sydney_ (D48), specifically at the Battle of Cape Spada.

I am glad to hear that your plaining to convert the HMS Ajax kit into HMAS Sydney. That is a wonderful way to honor the Men of HMAS Sydney in scale model form. Good Luck with the project when you get your hands on it. I am thinking of getting the same kit and making up as HMNZ Archilles. Being one of the vessels alongside HMS Ajax during the Battle of The River Plate. Glad to see Airfix releasing a kit which can be made into legendary ANZAC subjects.

I'm happy with the range so far. Looks like they've left something(s) out for "surprise" releases throughout the year which I'm a fan of. As for kits to add to my stash...the Bulldog is the model I didn't know I wanted until it was released. Previous entries have been the Gannet and Avro Anson. I'm a big fan of the lifeboats. I missed the Walrus first time around and it looks great. Finally the Belvedere looks like a good challenge.

Like many others there are quite a few kits on this list that I have got my eye on. But none more so than the Vintage Classics HMS Ajax kit. As a Kiwi modeler that is a must get (too bad not until October/ November). That way one can convert her into her sister (and fellow Battle of The River Plate combatant.) HMS/HMNZ Archilles. Since the Royal New Zealand Navy was formally established in 1941 (from 1921 until 1941 it was under the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy), the role HMNZ Archilles play in the hunt for the Graf Spree. Was a huge deal for the newly independent Royal NZ Navy. Sadly, HMNZ Archilles was damaged during the 1942-1943 Guadalcanal Campaign, by Japanese aircraft. But luckily, she was saved and remained in NZ service until 1947/1948 when she joined the Indian Navy as the INS Delhi. Ironically, she ended up appearing as herself in the 1956 Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger BATTLE OF THE RIVER PLATE. But in her INS configuration portraying herself in her 1939 NZ service. Also, in that movie Sir Christopher Lee made his onscreen debut as a frustrated Uruguayan Bar Owner. Just shy of him donning the Dracula Cape in the first Hammer Studios Dracula film in 1958. And long before he would come to NZ and portray Saruman in The Lord of The Rings franchise. ANYWAY, the point here is I am really excited for that kit. So, after reading that you can see why. Great breakdown as always of the Airfix 2024 Catalogue, Matt. This is a regular feature of this channel, that I am so happy this is a yearly tradition. Long may it continue.

Being a predominately sailing ship modeller(plastic & wood)i haven't bought anything from Airfix for a number of years as i have built all the Vintage classic ships, however i always keep and eye out every year just in hope. However like you the two RNLI lifeboats caught my eye, and as its a charity i give to regularly, i have pre ordered these already. Maybe small diorama for each one. Nice too see Hms Ajax and Hms Iron Duke again bringing bk memories when i built them as a kid.

Yeah with the price hike since the Severn was last released I can see your point. I thought because it will still be a couple of months before they are released it would give time to put money by for them, as with pre orders you don't get charged until they are dispatched, and with an option to cancel before this is a pretty good thing.

I built the airfix swift in 2021 and I’m very tempted to add it again to the stash. My kit had very noticeable fuselage warping but copious amounts of super glue enabled it to build into a very nice little model. As for the other range - well I’ve ordered 3 kits but tempted to add the bulldog also.

Im not entirely sure what I was expecting other than spitfires and we certainly got that (as well as the other usual suspects). Im not overly interested in the releases this year which is fine, not always going to see things I like. Im more interested in 1/48 scale things. The b24 looks really good and i am tempted but its not an aircraft i particularly care about. I would be interested in the Chinook if it was 1/48 scale (suspect we will hear that statement a bit). Quite like the lifeboat though, something a bit unusual that I think I would like to build. I was also made very happy during the year though from the 1/48 Gannett

I loved my first Whitley (the Coastal Command boxing as I couldn't find the Bomber Command version for a reasonable price) so will buy this one on release, and I might try to slip the Beaufort in just as it's a newer tooling, and will sit comfortably with my two Blenheims in my Bomber Command line up, even if it's not quite a BC aircraft. Have you ever looked at the Italeri Stirlings by the way? I have made one and have another yet to make, I found them rather good.

Summary screen is a nice touch, could use a scale breakdown added. Interesting version of diversity this time, heavy in some places, light in others. Liberator and Cromwell, probably the Chinook too have strong interest. Oh, Walrus, cuz seaplane. Looking at Gary's Stuff's comments and your's, very eye opening reactions. 🤔 Few box openings are going to decide the up or down for several. Belvedere and Life boats are in the filler for shipping category. Rest is ... Diverse? Okay from an American perspective. Typhoon is another need to look more at. Thanks for your rundown Matt. ☕🐢

interested in the Ajax but that's because I have a soft spot for the Leander class, lifeboats look good as well so that might be a maybe, not really a 1/48 scale builder (just don't have room) so those are a pass but here is hoping that we might get a new 1:72 of the bulldog down the road. might be tempted to get another Gladiator as it would let me build up the one I have in the Finland markings and ski landing gear.

I like this set of announcements. The Quick Builds are great gate-way products for kids, just like any Lego-type product. I like the 'Shadow Stand' Starter kits, I think they make for fabulous displays, and having a good quality gate-way kit for young or new modellers is critical to keeping the hobby alive. The new RNLI kit and the re-release of the old one feels like a good decision; it's a fairly unique subject that gives Airfix a good USP. Airfix do seem to be dabbling in helicopters at the moment, to be fair, with success so Bravo November makes sense. For me, the Euro Fighter kit caught my eye as a subject I've not built since I was a kid and the 5 D-Day fighters set could be a nice project. I'm tempted by the P1127, it's a kit I've never built and had a lot of love for the Harrier, and at £6.99, that is cheap!! As someone who builds ships, I'm glad to see the old 1/600 continuing to rotate, it's forced the second-hand market to stop rampant profiteering and sell at reasonable prices, which can only be a good thing. And Ajax was a kit that used to be sold at stupid prices.

Also hoping to find a way of doing proper names to put on them as the kit has only ever included a generic decal of a white oval with simply "RNLI" on it rather than ones for all the boats names. They included all the station names for the stern but not the boat names.

The big attraction regarding the P.1127 will be the Cartograph decals which is the case for all of the Vintage Classic releases. I also noticed that some of the box art is in black and white, do you know if this is going to be something new or is it just because the finished box art is not available at the moment ?

@@ModelMinutes That's understandable as it's a North American term. It is the name of a Native Indian tribe from the Pacific Northwest. It is also well known as the name for a wind that blows down from the Rocky Mountains. As I said I didn't mean to be pedantic but when one is so used to hearing it said one way it's kind of jarring when said differently. No offence meant. Cheers from Canada.

To be honest, im upset for two reasons: 1. Lack of New Kits ( A lot more people including myself would rather some more new kits than a butt ton of re releases) 2. Price: I took a big break from modelling last year and what i come back to is kits being stupidly expensive. I had a quick look on the website too find a 1/72 scale Phantom FGR 1/2 retailing for £32! All in all some things were good like the awesome B24 and a lovely Typhoon Starter!

Whilst I understand that people want to see more new kits, sadly companies can't just create and sell new tool models every year as it is prohibitively expensive. The re-releases help gain more revenue to fund their new projects (whilst giving modellers a chance to get a kit they may have missed prevoiusly or in a different variant)

@@ModelMinutes Yeah I see your view aswell. I’m still excited for the B-24 and the awesome looking Chinnok and I might even be tempted to build that RNLI boat! Many people think this hasn’t been good but what they have realesed is epic!

I'm a bit disappointed that Airfix has abandoned any new 1/350 scale ships like the new Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier

I wonder if (because the QE is so new) they struggle to get access and licenses to design a suitable model

Magic Factory has already produced a 1/700 scale model which from the look of things looks to be of Flyhawk quality. I ordered one but I always wanted Airfix to release one. I've had a soft spot for Airfix since I was a kid and cut my modeling teeth on their 1/600 ships. I've gotten all their 1/350 ships now as well

I was actually intrested in the breakdown in kits period-wise after your comment so I took a look 43 products total 1x Pre- War kit 17x Post-war (or generic) that leaves 25 products WW2 era which is 58% of the announcement. So just under half of the kits announced this year aren't specifically WW2 - i guess there is some life outside WW2

It would be interesting to display the Chinook with the Belvidere. The Hampden isn't a bad kit but the bomb bay is moulded shut with an option for wing mounted bombs. I have built one in Swedish markings (one of the two original options) [as seen in one of my earliest videos kzfaq.info/get/bejne/msmpfsuUvsq6Y2w.html ] but that got damaged beyond repair, so I plan to re-buy that kit.

I see that Airfix still has an obsession with 1/72 scale. Although the Liberator looks interesting, if I can find it at a cheap price. But overall, the releases are pretty MEH. Noticed that the 1/24 Mustang is at a more reasonable price. Instead of the total rip off price of the Stuka & Harrier. I might get the Mustang. But pretty disappointed with the rest. I would have liked to see re-releases of the 1/24 Hellcat and Typhoon, as they are now hard to get hold of. But, the kits I would really like to see come back as Vintage Classics, are more of the galleons and sailing ships that Airfix used to do.

i'm not sure it is an obsession, i just think that 1/72 is a popular scale

As things stand Airfix won't be seeing much of my money in the coming 12 months. Only the Bulldog and corrected Cromwell tank being of any interest.

This announcement from Airfix is indeed becoming a bit of a tradition, as is also the overwhelming appearance of the word "underwhelmed" in the modelling social media. Can't please everyone. Personally, I'm delighted to see a new tool 1/48 Bulldog. My poor old Inpact kit will probably never get built now.

Typical Airfix ,loads of 1/72s and ww2 subjects. Plus the never ending Spitfire,109s ect. Just bores the shit out of me. Lets see what they bring out in the year, otherwise no Airfix for me this year. There are other companys out there.

Thats true and most of them do. But it bores me to death as a 1/48 builder who does one or maybe two of a subject.

..what load of olde tosh, literally.. I guilt that 1:72 jump jet back in 1971 - it was the old plastic bag and paper header, which included the artwork, (better then then than now), and the instructions printed inside - price 2 shillings and sixpence, (12.5 pence)..

Most of the kits are much more recent toolings, at least they put the old ones in the vintage range so you at least know what you’re getting
