Video for A Grain of Sand - Nature's Secret Wonder
The Amazing Microphotography of Dr. Gary Greenberg
Every grain of sand is a jewel waiting to be discovered. That's what Dr. Gary Greenberg found when he first turned his microscope on beach sand. Gemlike minerals, colorful coral fragments, and delicate microscopic shells revealed that sand comprises much more than little brown rocks. Amazing microphotography showcases spectacular colors, shapes, and patterns. Join Dr. Greenberg as he explores the science and beauty of the sand grain. With this captivating volume, you will never look at a beach the same way again.
Author and photographer Dr. Gary Greenberg is a visual artist who creatively combines art with science. He has a Ph.D. in biomedical research from University College London and holds 17 patents for high-definition 3-D light microscopes. Dr. Greenberg lives in Haiku, Hawaii.
Foreword writer Stacy Keach is an actor renowned for his narration of scientific documentaries, particularly the NOVA series for the Public Broadcasting Service.

This was mentioned in Our Daily Bread devotional for today and when I researched, this is what I found. I collect sand every beach I walk on and now I’m filled with amazement. Thanks Dr. Gary Greenberg for sharing.

Well, the sand grains I see at 00:18 are big enough for me to see them as having fairly simple geometric shapes. I don't understand how it inexplicably changes to the apparent "true" shape of grains of sand at 00:20...

This is a bit old (by internet standards), but I'll reply anyway. The shots of all of the unique objects (bits of shells, coral, volcanic rock ,etc.) have been picked out of a larger batch of "regular" sand (little random bits of silica/other minerals). These little treasures are not the majority of the volume of most sand, they're just floating around in the "boring" stuff (which makes up most of the view at the 00:18 mark). So the photographer has hunted through the "raw" sand sample and collected out the best extra objects.

Why are reddit atheists so fucking rude? Let her believe what she wants, about sand. Correct them when its something serious like "this was a miracle that he was cured from cancer", no it was modern medicine and science. But you edgy reddit atheists are just so rude. Just let them believe what they want without interjecting your shittiness. jeeze. And ya, im an atheist.
