I remember when this happened. I was just out of high school a year when this girl went nuts. It was the first school shooting, and it shocked the world. WHY would a kid do something like this? It was madness, and no one could understand it. She only said she didn't like Mondays, and it was left for the rest of the world to try and find the reasons, which of course didn't exist. Now it's become a depressingly common phenomenon, and there still are no reasons.

And of course we know that EVERYBODY always say the truth and never would hide real motivations, right? Holy moly. Her claims were of course WRONG. Later she put out all possible reasons to lower the prison time. Who knows what really happens to her. Maybe she doesnt know it exactly herself. But be sure: Just because someone doesnt tell the reasons for the own actions, they still exist. But... just because resons exist doesnt mean persons do know the reasons for their own action. Free will is a nice concept but only partially true. Often enough free will is an illusion.

"I Don't Like Mondays" was a hit for The Boomtown Rats in 1979. It was written in response to one of the first school shootings in which a teenage girl trained her father's hunting rifle on an elementary school across the street from her house, killing two adults and injuring eight children. A reporter reached the shooter by phone before she was arrested and asked her why she did it. She reportedly answered: "I don't like Mondays. This livens up the day," an answer which shocked Bob Geldof into writing the song. Years later it was reported that her father had been molesting her for years.

Man, such a beautiful song for such a dark, dark situation....though it's almost kind of quaint to think that something like gun violence at a school would have traveled across to England to where they are moved to write a song about it.

In addition to being the man behind LiveAid and "We Are The World", Bob Geldof played the character Pink in the movie "Pink Floyd The Wall". He even shaved his eyebrows for the role. Mr. Geldof is one committed dude.

Bob Geldof was NOT behind "we are the world. His Band Aid "Do they know it's Christmas" was first in late 1984, after seeing news reports of the famine in Ethiopia. He organized and wrote the charity song quickly - mostly British/Irish musicians arrived, without fee to sing and support. A number of American Musicians were invited, yet did not appear or support (time, effort, knowing of-??) The Only American's to be at the "Xmas" recording were Kool and the Gang (support!) After Band Aid was a charity success, after the Grammy Awards, spring of 1985, and majority of American talent organized and recorded "We are the World". Geldof was invited to join -he he was disturbed at the "craft service" food provided for all the musicians (didn't have foods for the British group -record for charity) and how some of the musicians were debating of who would sing or change the lyrics (Jackson/Ritchie) Bob Geldof later revealed that the two songs were very different to record, and their messages - yet, with the Live Aid concerts in July 1985 (which I watched, and sent in money) many musicians supported the charity to end Famine. He did have to get on the interview platform during the concert, midway to guilt the audience to "Give us your F'***ing money" and not just enjoy the concert (which is blunt, and Irish in attitude).

remember that this happened way before columbine, before school shootings was a thing. if i remember correctly this was THE FIRST mass shooting at a school. not just her parents ,but everyone was saying "why?" "i dont understand". its not that they were bad parents. by all accounts she had a very normal childhood. mistakes may have been made, sure, but nothing hidden in the closet. she simply had a fuse blow, an overloaded chip, a psycotic breakdown, a meltdown in reactor 7 or whatever other term for -she lost her shit!

Great song, Boom Town Rats once known as the most influential band in rock and roll. Irish Band. Bob Geldof (no relation to Gandolf) was the driving force behind BAND AID, 1984. This was the first of many rock and roll concerts put on by many artists in the name of charity. Band Aid was to help the people in Ethiopia during a horrific famine. The following year he was the tip of the spear for LIVE AID, raising over 127 million for assistance, again in Ethiopia. Bob was later knighted for his outstanding work.

I was in 6th Grade, Ohio when this song arrived. I was getting into music. This band, being Irish (a third of my heritage!) was interesting. I learned of the tragic story. Yet, I became a fan of this fine band. When Bob G' started the charity relief for famine in Ethiopia in 1984, "Band Aid", I knew him, and helped with some money to the charity (I was a teen then). The Rats broke up, after the mid-80's -yet reformed a few years back, with a fine album, and have toured again. They started with the spirit of Punk, they made some amazing music -this is their most known song around the world -yet talent, for their creative music!
