@@ToddReacts totally agree! I do think that having a big ego is a problem on most groups. No I can’t talk about other kpop groups since I don’t follow them..But just from what you read , BTS is different.Maybe because they were allowed to express and even discuss about ego and dealing with them. and know that they could each have multiple personas but still one person. In some past groups it looks like the youngest or the main singer goes solo first…and this is opposite to JK ..he might be the one the last person to let go. For Namjoon, him being a leader he knows and the members knows his strength and weaknesses.and whatever each other’s weak side, the other members excel and help each other. i don’t know if i make sense lol.

I think the idea of a leader is a bit different in kpop than in western bands, especially because it’s an established thing. Traditionally it was typically the oldest members of groups considering how korean age hierarchy works (a level of respect is given to people even only a year older) but now the age order of a leader isn’t as big of a deal. The leaders in these groups aren’t necessarily the most popular like a frontman of a western group would be, they just carry a lot of responsibility between the company and the team, etc. So they’re very well respected in the groups for their extra responsibilities.

yeah, that´s why bts is not the same as all the groups (western or asian) Namjoon is not the oldest member and (he is the fourth youngest and three members are older than him). I think their personalities are what really makes them uniquely loved. Sure they're incredibly talented, hardworking people but that can be said of many idols. It's the amazing music they give us PLUS their wonderful personalities that almost makes the music more powerful. They show us so much of themselves that when they spread positivity and love in their music, it feels genuine. It doesn't seem like a gimmick or a concept. You can feel their sincerity because you believe that these guys mean the words they sing and stand by their message. So when they offer comfort in their song, it truly does comfort Armys because we know it comes from their hearts and they wrote it themselves.

I think is is important to note besides RM being the leader and them being a rapper, singer, or, dancer they created their roles on their own. Each member created a role I guess you could say to help build one another and/keep each together in a scenes…For example: Jhope chose for himself to become the dancer leader who helps the other members. Not because the company told him but because he wanted everyone doing their best…Hopefully this made sense. Also BTS have said many times that when they first where together they fought all the time and many of the members didn’t get alone because their personalities are so different from one another. However Bang PD (the guy that put them together, former CEO of Bighit) taught the boys how to fight and make up. He made sure that if they had an argument even if was between two members all seven members would be involved in solving the issue. From this the members learned how to argue, fight, make up, understand one another, etc…I think this is a huge reason why they are sooo close as they are despite being so different. Now the members say that they hardly fight and get along very well…. Recently I saw a post of someone who worked with the member when they made their new BTS Island game (for phones) and at first he was worried that they wouldn’t be able to make any decisions, come to an agreement for the game, etc. because their were seven different people. However he released he was wrong. The members where able to discuss and come up with solutions to create the game quickly or in a timely manner (ps the help create the game from start to finish). I very much have inspired me but not just their music but their relationship with one another. They inspire me to and are helping learn me how to create better relationships with family and friends by their examples… Anyways I am taking too much. Thank you for reacting!!! 💜

So RM who was the first member joined Bighit in 2010 and Jimin who was the last member joined in 2012. But during this time there was I believe around 30 trainees that Bigihit had to pick the members of BTS from and then BTS officially debuted in June 2013. I've always heard V was kept hidden because Bighit didn't want other companies to steal him away, even V has said he doesn't why they did it. As to why you haven't head of them until recently. I think it's various reasons. BTS didn't even get popular in South Korea until 2015/2016 and it was around 2017 when they started promoting and blowing up in the US. I think it all began when BTS won top social artist at the Billboard Music Awards in 2017. They won against Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes, Selena Gomez, and Ariana Grande. All of a sudden people were like who are these guys that won against such huge artists. But they've practically been on every American talk show and award show. Also because of their songs mostly being in Korean they don't have the strongest radio presence. But I will be honest I think a lot of it has to do with BTS achievements not getting acknowledged because they aren't American and because they are Asian, most American media reduces BTS to just another "manufactured boy band who little girls like" when that narrative is completely false when it comes to BTS. Honestly if BTS lived in the US they would probably be talked about a lot more, but since they live in South Korea the media treats them like out of sight out of mind. I also notice a lot of people who know of BTS but don't realize popular songs like Dynamite and Butter were BTS songs. And I hope this doesn't sound bad but at this point if someone has not heard of BTS they literally have been living under a rock. Even my 88 year old grandma has heard of them. And yes BTS are taking a bit of a break right now to explore their own artistry and just spending time doing what they want to do. BTS has literally worked non-stop for the past 10 years only taking 2 extended breaks during that whole period. Their first break came at the end of 2019 over 6 years after they debuted (up until that point they never got more than a couple days off here and there). Yes they want to continue as BTS for a long time and it's actually very normal in kpop for members to do solo work and still continue as a group. But BTS do have a concert in October in Busan (Jimin and Jungkook's hometown) South Korea in a bid for Busan to hold the World Expo in 2030. J-Hope has already released his solo album called Jack In the Box that came out in July and he headlined Lollapalooza in Chicago. And all members plan on releasing solo albums at some point. Also I don't know if you are aware but in South Korea military service is mandatory for all men for a minimum of 18 months unless exempted for medical reasons considering South Korea is still technically at war with North Korea. BTS was granted a delay (from age 28 to 30, and Jin the oldest member turns 30 in December) because they received the The Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit medal which is a huge achievement. And now the government is trying to decide if BTS should be exempted or not or do an alternative service. BTS has always said they will serve when called so they aren't personally trying to get out of serving, but the country is very divided if they should be required to serve or not. Kpop artists are not exempted from military service and so a lot of people say it's unfair if BTS get exempted but every other male kpop artist has had to serve. But it's very sensitive topic that BTS don't really like to discuss, but their impending military service might also be playing a role in their decision to do solo albums at this time. But actually they've had this planned since 2020. They were going to do solo albums after their world tour that was supposed to happen in 2020 but due the pandemic the entire tour was cancelled and BTS didn't want to abandon ARMY during such a difficult time even though they were exhausted. So they decided to release fully English songs like Dynamite, Butter, and Permission To Dance to lift people's spirits and they also made an album called BE that came out in November 2020 where they really shared their thoughts and feelings about the pandemic. BTS worked so hard during the whole pandemic making an album, recording performances for overseas promotions, doing multiple online concerts etc. Thanks for reacting and I hope to see more BTS reactions in the future. And if you have any more questions feel free to ask.

You forgot an entire Album: BE - the covid Album (and there were also a lot of solo stuff and collabs with other artists) Hitman Bang gave an answer to the V question in the big Rolling Stones Interview last year. The market is oversaturated in SK, the label was very small and had no money: V being hidden and very charming was another marketing trick to get people to talk as they needed everything they could get or be disolved in less than 100 days (which is the majority of Idol groups from the smaller companies). Only 1% of these groups is going to stay around for a few years. The Rise of Bangtan series showcases that very well. There were a few articles on koreaboo lately that emphesized how such small artists/groups are treated and it is not pretty. Think about it: Taehyung's designation was "only" vocalist no lead or main or anything else. He is a baritone but the scene prefers tenors/high voices. He constantly has to sing in his upper register in the group work. Personally I believe he did glow up. That and the Korean context must be looked at. Trainees are almost never stolen from other labels. The new label (or the trainee) would have to buy out the contract and with this many people to choose from? not worth it. That and it would make the further career at the end of the Idol years in that label tricky as loyalty is seen as very important in Asian countries. So it would be likely a career suicide. 💜

What’s amazing about them and we will always be amazing about them is the fact that no matter how high up they are in the world they never forget their roots and where they came from they never forget that the reason why they’re there is because of the people that support them and they constantly say that there was one time where Jim and said they are the reason why we’re here they’re the reason why we’re able to do what we love so we have to give back to them we have to give them that love back and I feel like that’s why so many people love them because of the sense of humbleness that always comes with them they have every right to brag they’re talented in every aspect and yet they still talk about their flaws they’re still vulnerable and they’ve never changed and if they did it was always for the better. They are also very honest with us and how they feel for example earlier this year for their 10th year anniversary they announced That they’ve been having a very difficult time ever since quarantine and finding out who they truly were and with their identities and how they were going to take a break from group activities until they kind of find themselves again that day was a bittersweet moment but then again army loves them and supports them because of how honest they are.

it's better to think of namjoon as a team captain and a middle man between the group and the company. he helps them resolve issues amongst themselves, with the company etc and encourages, you know, healthy team behavior. it's less necessary now because they've been together for so long and are literally family at this point, but he's basically their rock. in times of trouble, you can always turn to namjoon and yes they're on a "hiatus" but it's primarily from group music so they can focus on individual projects and recharge. they've been going for 9 years with few breaks so it's necessary to get past burn out and stay inspired, taking a break to explore themselves as artists and people before coming back together as a collective of artists they're still doing their other group schedules together though and have a concert coming up in october :)

Undeniably in today's hiphop there's an overload of it, but hiphop artists have always written beyond that as well. I had known about them in 2013 but I didn’t really give them a chance until 2014 when on of their songs lyrics helped me a lot with the hopelessness I was feeling. Since then them and the ARMY friends I’ve made over the years have become my comfort zone. Or Safe Zone as Jhope says in his song “Safety Zone.”

Glad you were able to watch. They are very sweet. It’s rare to find such a group of such wholesome sweet talented guys who are also damn dorky and utterly chaotic but remain down to earth. They run like a year round music camp always writing music helping each other encouraging a big variety of interests. They care for each other and Army more deeply than most families. They are all doing solo projects and it’s not a break for Army it’s exhausting keeping up with the 7 😂

I never imagined becoming such a big fan of them tbh, I heard of them kinda back in 2019/2020 but were somewhat dismissive in my mind. Obviously I regret it lol I heard the BE album during the pandemic and down the rabbit hole I go. The sincerity in their music, in the writing and execution of it really make them stand out amongst almost all the artists I listen to. Even if an idea is not new, somehow the way they execute it feels fresh and sincere, it's fascinating to me. And they have a cheekiness when they do more social commentary songs that makes the message almost more poignant. My favorite BTS songs are the cheeky social commentary/clapbacks and sincere comfort/solidarity ones. Also it's gutsy, some of the songs they do. They almost subvert the industry? The two guesses to why V was kept hidden at debus was, one to generate more buzz at debut and two to prevent other companies from poaching him. I guess unless Bang PD talk about it frankly in the future, we might never find out XP

They are taking a break from group music right now so that they can explore their individual music more and so that they can rest. RM is their main song writer and really needed a break. (They've released at least two albums a year since 2013!) They are still doing group activities like their variety show Run BTS, and they have a concert in October. But they are planning to each release a solo album before they release another group album.

Even though I'm from Japan where K-pop has been really popular, I had never listened to any of it until BTS. I got interested in them because of Jimin in Dynamite (I though he was a girl lol), and then I decided to check the name of the members...well, usually at this point, there's no way back. I found 7 unique and amazing voices, their performances made my jaw drop, then I got to know their personalities and got to love them more. What I love is their music, or they themselves are just genuine. They truly love and respect each other, which is so heartwarming to watch.

They all respect each other as people and each other talents and never shy away from praising each other and lifting each other up. It is one of the most remarkable things about them. Here is some extra information: RM was the reason bts was formed. The idea of a rap group was conceived by bang pd (ceo of bighit) in 2010 after meeting and signing RM to his label. He saw this talented kid an was like... yeah I need to do something with him. So bangpd did a nationwide audition process. Jhope was actually the first member to sign to bighit while he was still in his hometown, and he was already famous among trainees in different companies as one of the best new talents. At one point bts used to be known as 'the group with jung hoseok'. He joined the other rappers including rm and suga in the dorms and picked up rapping after being surrounded by rappers. Suga came in through auditions that bangpd conducted after walking down the street and seeing a poster advertising it. He decided to do it cus he was aware of bang pd because he was known for writing hit songs, hence his nickname Hit Man bang. Since their company was so broke in their trainee days, suga used to work as a delivery boy. He ran into an accident on his job and injured his shoulder. He didn't talk about it to the company cus he was scared about being kicked out.. but when the company found out they actually paid his school fees. Jk as they said in the video was contacted by bighit. Jk did his little research about the companies and found RM, and uh... fell in love as he said. And he went straight for it. He was sent to America for couple of months during training by their choreographer cus he was very young (13) and was still learning. Jin was first approached by a different company on the streets for auditions before bighit. He went to the audition.... but never followed up with it. Bighit found him years later and he decided to go with it. Man is unpredictable.😂 You can find jin in some of the rappers early cover songs doing the choruses. V was completely hidden from the public until their debut. They used him as an element of surprise. It is speculated that they did that to prevent other companies from going after him cus he had those idol looks and talents. Jimin was almost cut from the final line up of bts because the company was concerned about whether it was OK to debut a trainee who had a training period of only 1 year. That's never usually done. But they consulted with the other members and decided he was crucial to complete the team. Plus even tho he was only trainee for a year he was extremely talented.

All of the other members love Rm and say that he basically formed them he was the first in the group he might not be the oldest but he is very caring and responsible I’m not saying the others aren’t but when he needs to be serious he can but when he’s not he’s really playful and goofy and yes I think they obviously have egos but they have been together for 10+ years so I think if they had big egos or didn’t get along they would have broken up a while ago

Their national service (military) has began. Jin's already doing his, I think Suga is next so they're getting their solo stuff out before doing their military service. They have to do 16months and have to join before they are 30years old. The younger members of BTS will go before they have to by Korean law so they can all sort of come out about the same time. That way they can get to what they love most making music together much quicker.

Hi! Thanks for the reaction and attention! Much appreciated 💜 The humilty, the message of togetherness, the unparalleled work ethic and the way they've been carrying themselves for the past decade has been truly inspiring to me. It is a testament of their honesty towards their craft/ their fans, of their chatacters and I think are part of the reasons why it resonates with so many! The more you learn, the better it gets. As you saw it's just an introduction but there are already a lot of layers! Hope you'll enjoy if you decide to check out more of them and the ARMY will ease your way in so feel free to ask us anything! To clarify regarding the break, since they announced it in June after the release of their anthology album they've been quite productive! 1/ J-Hope released his solo album Jack in the Box ( masterpiece) and premiered performances of it at the Lollapalooza festival (legendary) as a headliner 2/They will hold a concert next month in Busan, Korea (all 7) 3/ they will soon release the official song for the fifa world cup (probably next month as well) 4/ the album of RM should come out by the end of this year. 5/They also had a few collabs (Jungkook with Charlie Puth, the 4 singers with Benny Blanco and Snoop Dogg, RM with Korean collective Balming Tiger).... and that's all just within 3 months in into their "break"... so they just won't release a new album soon with the 7 of them but they are still very much active as individuals and as a group and have a really healthy relationship! Giving themselves space when needed but always supporting each other, their goal is longevity and quality over quantity. And healthy relationship with ARMY when they always end up opening up about any of their struggles, dark thoughts and that's what builds also the trust, we know they are not perfect and they don't pretend to be but embracing their flaws to deal with it better... anyways wanted to make a quick comment (fail) but hope that clarifies😊

They're thrilled he's the leader cause you dont get paid anything extra, but there's more administrative work, he's the key producer, and he's in liason between the company and the band itself. They all, for the most part, will have a collective say in things, but it's RM, who has an IQ if 148, who will best communicate it with Hybe or other companies they deal with. Whereas if they sent Jin, they would all get paid in Dave & Buster tickets. Happy for Jin, but the other members would be pppppppissed!

@@AlfonsoEspina I meant no offense. I think he's adorable and my little joke was to show appreciation for the fact that he values things beyond money, which, in fact, is one of the reasons he's my favorite. Such a quality could result in some humorous moments, hence, the core of why I found that funny. Americans have what we call "digs." You can consider it a lighter form of "ball busting" and it's how we show affection. But thank you for pointing that out. I often forget that nuance, particularly humor-related nuance, doesn't translate well for certain people actively looking to be offended. I hope you have a better day and try to see the good in people. Keep the comments positive. No one's out for blood here.

36:10 rise to the top was not easy for bts. when it says in the beginning they came from a tiny underdog label that's really true. no connections, no money in a corrupt cut throat industry. bts were different, their sincerity and involvment and freedom was unheard of in the old kpop world of the big three companies. they were constantly sabotaged and were never suppsoed to make it even in korea. let alone flip the whole power structure of the korean music industry. bts paved singlehandedly the way for korean artists into the western mainstream. a monumental task, before bts there was a korean one hit wonder that was more seen as a meme than actual art on eye level with western artists. bts are the first non western and first non eglish act in history to ever rise to the global top and outperfrom all western top acts. they topped the IFPI global artist chart, a yearly ranking of artists by all global sales and streams, three years now, no other artist ever did that. you see now more korean faces pop up in the western industry but this so called ''kpop wave'' was all bts hard work from the very bottom. and that takes time. you can't really compare that to western boygroups that get put together by massive labels labels and then get chart topping hit songs handed to them day one. bts did all of this themselves. made their own music, told their own stories, they build their label into the giant it is today from nothing while battling xenophobia, prejudice, unjust treatment in the west because of them being korean and ''kpop''. the fact that korean artists get some radio play now and are put into some general playlists is all due to bts year long grind and they still aren't treated fairly.

Thank you for sharing your BTS journey with us.... Not sure if you are aware of the difference between Korean Age and International Age... Koreans count age differently to us....So , actually the guys ages were from 15 years old to 20 years old when they debutted. (only 13 - 18 years old when they started with BTS) Korean Age vs International Age - difference is 1-2 years depending on if their birthday has been.... In most videos they are giving Korean ages so you will need to adjust. Rule of thumb - if it's before their birthday - subtract 2 years to get international age. if it's after their birthday - subtract 1 year to get their international age. When you are born you are considered 1 year old. Then on 01 Jan every year you add another year to your age, no matter what your birthdate is. .... EG: TaeHyung (V) born 30 Dec 1995 ...... current International Age 26 (Korean Age 28). ... 2 years difference So Tae born 30 Dec 95 is 1 year old, then on 01 Jan 96 he is 1 more year older (so they would say he is 2 years old, when we would say he is 2 days old.) So he was considered 28 in Korea since 01 January, we would say he is 26 turning 27 in Dec. EG: Hoseok (JHope) born 18 Feb 1994...... current International Age 28 (Korean Age 29)... .currently 1 years difference He turned 28 on 18 Feb - but will still be considered 29 in Korea (the difference is only 1 year - until Jan 1 - then back to 2 years difference) It's a different way of looking at age, from new years day - JHope is living his 29th year (since conception) - instead of - he turned 28 (since birth).... EG: Jeongguk (JK) born 01 Sept 1997...... current International Age 25 (Korean Age 26)... .1 years difference He was considered 26 in Korea since January, even though we would say he's just turned 25. So JK started with BigHit in 2011 at 13, but he would say 15 in korean age. At BTS debut on 13 Jun 13 JK was 15 in international age (17 in korean age) International Age at Debut on 13June13 (Year and international age became trainee) Jin - 20 yo (2011 - 18yo) Suga - 19 yo (2011 - 17yo) JHope - 19 yo (2011 - 17yo) RM - 18 yo (2010 - 15yo) Jimin - 17 yo (2012 - 16yo) V - 17 yo (2011 - 15yo) JK - 15 yo (2011 - 13yo) In most series they are giving Korean ages so you will need to adjust. Hope that makes sense!!💜💜

There was nothing outside of the music that drew me in and held my attention for long. And a lot of the times certain artists were just not humble which was a big turn off for me. BTS wasn't like that. BTS makes you care! you start by loving their music, and then you fall in love with them, and then you fall in love with the music AGAIN because it just means so much more after knowing them!
