latengocomoburro Well if we do come to a conversation we stick it out, but in our day to day life we try to avoid it so we dont get stuck in a conversation+fika for 4 hours everyday. It's a defense mechanism we have produced so we can actually do stuff during the day.

+latengocomoburro I think the rule is more like "don't iniate conversation" rather than it's people not wanting to talk. It's kind of a "mind your own bussiness" thing I think. A lot of people here (in Sweden, I'm a swede) would probably be happy to talk, it's just that people don't iniate conversation in case that would bother the other person. Since nobody does it, it is seen as kind of weird thing to do, striking up a conversation with a random stranger. I've had random people talk to me on the bus and stuff before but they were mostly weirdos. As a swede I've got to say though, when I'm in the US, the openness is one of the things I appreciate the most.

Actually it pretty much only applies to large southern cities as far as I've experienced. In the north people are like Swedes used to be, open and polite. Used to be you didn't need to lock your door when leaving home because everyone trusted eachother and had eachothers' backs. And the cutting in line is bs, I know very few people that'd remain silent and just glare.

Especially that escalator thing. That's only for the big three cities of Sweden as far as I've experienced.

agormanvideos there is alot more to it than that. for example people that hurrys through the escelator could have RLS(restless leg syndrome) and standing still will make them go crazy. Noone is the same.

Silje Klein lol, no, actually, I can relate myself, personally, but of course, I'm also not like most Americans. We have a lot of people here (especially of certain demographics), who do not possess the sort of trait you describe. Even just the very thought of the possibility of one of their actions or their physical location/position being any inconvenience to anyone else seems to be as far removed from some individuals' otherwise cognizant thought processes as one could possibly expect. But, like I said, it isn't everyone who is like that, but there are a lot who are. You'll notice it especially in groceries stores with small aisles, or airport conveyor belt walkways, or what I remember experiencing in high school, narrow hallways, where people (especially the fat ones, and especially those of certain demographics) tend to just be in your way somehow, constantly, no matter what you try to do, and you wanna talk about SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWW walkers?! lol With some people I swear it's like they are literally _TRYING_ to be in your way or block you as much as they possibly can. I think some people do it on purpose, even if only semi-consciously, whether out of spite, bitterness, resentment, or just from having an overall chip on their shoulder where they feel like doing anything but this (actually being consciously and deliberately courteous, out of empathy and compassion for your fellow human beings in a polite way and for reasons that most normal folks just already understand inherently), means that they are somehow going out of their way to let _other_ people 'walk all over them,' so to speak (this applies especially to those with a certain 'victim' mentality), when actually just the opposite if anything is the case. But yeah, you'll have these really lazy fat people especially who'll use up as much personal space as they possibly can, no matter where they are standing, without any thought to those around them who might also be trying to 'get around' ...literally;) ...as in, "get around_them_ lol) And it's not even so much they're weight as it is where they walk/stand. It can be frustrating. But, like I say, most people are generally more courteous than that. It's jut those annoying and inconsiderate few.

There are crazy drivers all over the place; I don't care _what_ country you're from :) So you always have to be cognizant, aware of your surroundings--i.e _not_ walking and texting, as so many now do (and not to mention as well because of the # of those who are also _driving_ and texting), because when you have so many trying to whip in and out in a hurry there's no telling when someone might accidentally slam you. It happens more frequently in bigger cities of course, especially when you have a larger number of lanes, and/or if you happen to have a lot of people (whether immigrants or 'locals') who don't understand the nation's driving laws/etiquette (because they didn't receive their driving education there (or at least didn't get much out of it if they did ;)

Silje Klein I agree with your escalator rule! I'm American and that rule doesn't really exist here...but, personally, I follow it anyway. I always stand to the right in case anyone wants to get by...I feel it's just common courtesy! But, I'm one of few over here, haha. I want to go to Sweden...I think I would fit in well. >.< (I also do the "walk until there's no cars" thing, too. lol)
