Annette was great on the studio recordings, but she didn't shine as well as the others during live shows. There are slower songs like "Meadows of Heaven," "Slow, Love, Slow," "The Crow, the Owl, and the Dove," and more, where she sounds amazing. If you want to hear a crazy one with Marco singing, check out, "Master Passion Greed."

Totally agree. The Crow, The Owl, And The Dove is one of my favorites, I haven't listened to it in ages. I actually seriously considered getting the seal with the crow, the owl, and the dove on it tattooed, it really was a song that made a big impact on me. Google it if you haven't seen it, images aren't super true to form, it looked badass in the CD art. I'm also a fan of Slow, Love, Slow, but it's a DRASTIC change in style from the NW norm. My fianceé doesn't have a problem with style changes, but she doesn't particularly care for that one, unfortunately. Last of the Wilds is an instrumental, but it's 100% our road trip song. Every. Single. Time. We just don't travel without *at least* starting off our journey with LotW. Troy REALLY proved his chops in that one. If you want to watch a ROCKING folk-metal song of theirs, the Buenos Aires performance of "I want my tears back" is just KILLER. Now THAT was a party.

I think with anette it was a case of too big too fast. She went from being relatively unknown to fronting one of the biggest bands in the worlld and replacing a much loved voice. That's some big shoes to fill. She didn't have near the experience singing live and touring extensively as Floor or Tarja. Must have been overwhelming for her. Her voice is much more polished these days and i love her with The Dark Element.

I agree "Medows of heaven" and "Dark Chest of Wonders" are my favourite songs of her era and no she was a good singer but more a rock singer. Unlike the other 2 that are classically trained and so can hit the hight notes and be fantastic singers, personally, I think Nightwish really come alive fully in the Floor ear but that is a personal choice and I still enjoy listening to all their songs no matter the singer! But like in everything we have to have our favourites don't we all?

I love this song. It's totally insane and theatrical, Annette's squeaky squeal suits the madness perfectly. Even though this is one of the songs that Annette could perform live, I'd take Floor anytime live on anything else. But songs like this Annette suits perfectly because Tuomas wrote these songs specifically for her. Slow love slow is another fantastic tune from this era and is also a very sexy jazz tune.

I never disliked Annette per say, I disliked the feeble, infrequent attempts to sing like Tarja for Tarja written music, even with Marco taking a greater role in those songs to help those performance along it seemed forced, It didn't help that the back catalog was what I wanted to hear from Nightwish in addition to the newer stuff, I think we as fans looking back on it were not very fair in our expectations of Annette. I am not alone in this either

Tuomas and Nightwish made a movie "Imaginaerum" after the album with the same name. Amazingly beautiful! Some songs of the album are performed in the movie. Tuomas also composed the complete movie score. The band plays a small cameo in the movie. You really should watch it, it's beautifully made.

I'll tell you, though, despite Annette not being my favorite NW singer (no hate intended, just my perspective) the NW studio albums that feature her (Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerum) are shockingly solid. Imaginaerum is probably the closest they've come to a "concept album", and it is easily the most "theatrical" of the albums. To be honest, I hardly noticed any kind of weirdness with Annette's albums until I saw NW perform live. I genuinely don't mean to disparage her, but I can't help but feel like she was screwed the moment she signed up with the band. There's some kind of incongruency in... tone, maybe? I won't deny for a moment that she's talented, and her voices are quite good (like I said, GREAT for the theatrical albums) but Tarja and Floor seem to "fit" a little bit better, as far as the band's tone goes. The grand, sweeping, deeply emotive and lyrically complex stuff of early and new NW doesn't seem like it's Annette's comfort zone for some reason, and I just can't un-see it. Which makes *me* SUPER uncomfortable when I watch her live. Though, take that with a grain of salt, they're just my personal observations.

Totally agree, but Tuomas did a great job writing specifically for who he had to work with. Anette pulled off the insanity in "Scaretale" so well. And the jazzy sultriness of "Slow, Love, Slow" was such a departure, likely because the singer he had to work with was such a departure. i have to wonder, even with her incredible expressiveness and versatility, would Floor manage to pull off those two particular songs as convincingly?

I LOVE that you're covering all vocalists. Some Nightwish fans are very salty and anything's that's not Floor or Tarja, straight up dislikes everywhere which is petty and childish. As others have pointed out, Anette was fantastic on the studio recordings, not so much live. The songs that Tuomas writes (vocal-lines) can be very difficult for her. Check out Anette's new band, The Dark Element, where she truly shines vocally. She's a soprano but her lower register is by far her best, most comfortable and brassy-sounding. Please ignore all the bitter fans that can't let it go about Anette. I've been a Nightwish fan for far longer than a lot of these newer people coming in who love Floor (WHICH IS GREAT!) but a lot of them tend to hate Anette like she's the Devil or something. Thanks so much for this. Other Anette songs that are BRILLIANT: 'The Crow, the Owl, and the Dove', 'Meadows of Heaven', 'Sahara', 'Rest Calm', 'Turn Loose The Mermaids'... so many bangers from her era! But... please... studio recordings from here on out for her. :')

Ah yes this!!! I heartily agree that there is nothing wrong with people preferring Floor- her vocals are outstanding and I would easily say that she is one of the best singers in the entire world- or preferring Tarja, since she came first AND her vocals & performances are gorgeous and just, *classic*. But I never understood the hate on Annette, she's talented as well and honestly the album's produced in her era are some of my all time favs! Imaginaerum I've listened to on repeat since it's release. Definitely check out the studio recording of The Islander(the music video is great!!) Annette is in that and that song was always my fav growing up. Something about it just pulls at my heart. Also mentioned was Escapist!!!!! Please listen to that one!!! Thank you so much for doing these videos, and refusing to rank the singers(the thought of that breaks my heart...) And continuing to do things the way that you want even if some reactions to what you do might not be positive!!! Mad respect for that! I'd love to hear what you have to say about comparing some of the live vers to studio recordings, since they tend to put a bit of a different spin on them in concert. I'm looking forward to continuing this journey with you through the slew of NW songs! There are so many that are just LOADS of FUN (like their Phantom cover that you saw), to overwhelmingly, emotionally rich, meaningful songs (see Creek Mary's Blood) (And of course the little silly memes we had back in the day *facepalm* [kindly listen to Wishmaster with the lyrics pulled up/or watch a lyric video, the misheard lyrics on that are a bit legendary, you see] and Elvenpath which I will never un-hear as "elven-BATH" agdksjaka) NW is a band full of absolute NERDS and I LOVE THEM FOR IT. So much is inspired from folk and fairy tales and fantasy stories. (I'm again quietly recommending their song The Siren 👀 sorry hahaha)

I personally don't care about not only doing Floor for the sake of Floor. What I personally prefer is what is the best version of any given song. Yes, generally that is very often Floor. But there's a bunch that Tarja does better, however incredibly few for Annette. Yet this song is one of those where Annette's singing style and voice color really works best for, so I gotta give it to Annette. If you want to see Floor's version (you specifically asked); kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fryflct4srfMqIU.html She still does a decent job, but in my opinion, this is one of the rare songs that her voice doesn't quite fit. She does add a bit of a growl tho at one point which is quite amusing. The audio is pretty decent, but the video not so much, actually it's roughly on par in quality with the Annette version you just played. This song isn't on any of their "official live" releases. Also no thumbs down for choosing this. It's nice to see a video that so rarely gets reaction videos, and it was the best version of this song.

@demise0
@demise0 4 жыл бұрын
@@wren180 It's the wicked witch vibe that really works with this song, but not with most other songs. Well at least that's my opinion. However it is true that the only version from Floor that I know (that I posted) was November 2012, i.e. 1 month into her tenure with Nightwish. No idea where it might have evolved over time. However sometimes Floor's best versions of songs were her earlier versions (example - nearly everything from Wacken 2013 is better than later versions of the same songs). But 1 month (posted link) vs. 10 months (Wacken 2013) would likely make a difference.

@@juanb2715 Yes and no. Annette could not really handle the Tarja songs, I doubt that Tarja would be able to "do" the Annette songs on how they are meant/arranged to be sung. Floor can do all the songs from Tarja and Annette with her versatile range/style. Does that make her way of singing them all better than the other two? Not really but, she can do so and still keep the flavor of each song as it was meant to be while still doing Floor. Actually, would love to hear Tarja sing this one now, would be interesting to see the end result. lol. love me some Tarja too. I don't think it's specifically Anette's best song - as you said, she doesn't even sing much in this, and it's a very particular style that suits the song. This might not have been the best introduction to Anette although the song is fantastic. The video is shot from just one camera and the sound is not mixed at all unlike the live stuff from Floor. I love Anette, Tarja and Floor so its all good for me. I'm actually glad the band have had so many singers including Marko and Troy. Toumas has had such a vast musical landscape to work with. I think he would be hamstrung with just one singer.

While not the biggest fan of her vocals live, I do still love Annette's studio records, and she does still have fun on the stage, so I'll still give her credit for that. ^.-.^

I love Scaretale! It's one of my favorite songs with Anette along with Seven days to the wolfs, rest calm and slow love slow. It's better to check the studio versions of these as i dunno if they did them live apart from seven days to the wolves. And slow love slow will really surpise you. And yes, Scaretale is not an easy song to sing.

This is without doubt on me Annette's finer moments - however my favourite track with her is Meadows of Heaven - not sure if there's a live version but listen to it anyway, it's beautiful.

Personally I think all the singers knew what they were doing and performed very well. When it comes to the songs I prefer the older stuff that was written when Tarja was still in the band. They just hit in a different way. Maybe it's just because it was the"Nightwish" back then. I still think that it has been a good thing that the singers have changed

This song is one that Anette absolutely owned, no issues not being Floor at the lead. Tuomas wrote for specific singers, this one was made for Anette. Imaginarium is a fun album, quite diverse in typical Nightwish fashion.

You forgot the first rule about Nightwish. Don't expect, just listen. ;) The absurdities of creepy carnival, side show insanity of this piece is spot on. AS some has pointed out you need to look into the movie Imaginaerum to get the full theme of the album of the same name. Not sure about all the live shows but the studio version is as much a love of mine as any of the other Nightwish songs, sung by any member of Nightwish including the Three ladies. It comes down to, Damn.. Tuomas creates wonders, imo.. However, yeah, I dont like how many people are constantly blasting anyone who is not their favorite lady, I mean.. they should all know by now that it is Marco who wins that one and has been a constant through out all three of them :P

Clowns are not that bad, I work for cirque du soleil...That album is probably one of the best works of Thomas. Steve Harris of Iron Maiden called one of his top 3 most complete metal albums. I prefer the studio album, maybe because I've become a huge Floor fan. But all in all, imaginaerum is a must have album for any nightwish fan. Enjoyed your reaction thanks.

Scaretale is probably the one song that's most uniquely tailored for Annette's voice. The colour of her voice catches that 'witchy' vibe perfectly. I've heard Floor sing it and she's good at it no doubt, but her voice has darker colour, really in between Annette and Tarja that way. The studio version of this song is the best version.

Anette was great on recordings, and even live decent/good with the songs written for her, but because she has more poppish/rock background she just couldn't sing Tarja era songs too well and was maybe a bit too afraid to change them a lot. She didn't have the charisma on stage like Tarja and especially Floor who just owns the stage, just by being there. There are a few where Anette really shines e.g. Slow, Love, Slow with the jazzy vibe and some in which Tarja's style/version is the best, few of those originally written for her. Floor has made quite a few of the earlier era songs hers and basically they are the best versions of the songs out there.

When tarja was fired, The fans (maybe the mayoritt) don't accept Anette, they love Tarja, and Anette has diferent style, voice but ir doesn' mean she is bad, i love "dark play passion" and "imaginarium" albums in wich she sings The escence of nightwish always is there, no matter who sings, the 3 singers made a great job Now enjoy the present wirh Floor, And the past with Tarja and Anette

I really liked Anette in the Imaginaerum album even if some people said she didn't fit the sound of the band. Never got to see her live but from what I've heard, she unfortunately struggled in live performances and with the touring schedule. You might be happy to know, however, that she has her own band now, Dark Elements, and she sounds very well in it. I recommend checking them out kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fpOmrMpmu9zLY30.html (Songs the Niught Sings)

Kinda opposite of Floor when if you want to see her really shine you go with a live performance. ;) And check out The Dark Element!) And maybe Tarja's Until My Last Breath and Nightwish Tarja's era Nemo music videos -- they are awesome! :) ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fZOZZ9qGudrPipc.html ) ( kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oa9yl9N3r9-qm5c.html )

I love this song so much, it's so weird and creepy, just perfect. If you're interested in how Anette sounds today (which is: AMAZING), I highly recommend you to check out The Dark Element. Some of my favourites are "Not Your Monster" (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/q7Cmm5p82p2vZoU.html) and especially "Songs The Night Sings", which gives intense vibes of older Nightwish songs (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fpOmrMpmu9zLY30.html). A very nice headbanger is "Dead To Me" (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m8-UhpSf3remZWQ.html). There's more amazing stuff she did lately, but those will do for a great start! ;)

Scaretale is definitely definitive Annette I think. (It's also a weird concept track in the middle of a concept album. Nightwish care not for your genres...). Like every track, she is excellent studio recordings, this one in particular....and sadly weaker live, though this was a stronger Annette showing. Listen to the studio version of this to compare. You should watch the Imaginaerium film (a full feature film) that encorporates the albumn music. Its not a bad "artsy" film in its own way. Also....Marko is the ultimate ringmaster!!

Sircus Metal as it's best =) Sound quality is just poor. There is good fan made music video from studio recording, and then there is one without vocals as well, and you really need to listen to that also. This is incredible composition, great riffs and those orchestrals with choir, just perfect. Unfortunately there isnot good version with Floor. I have made one remaster from some cell phone video (added maybe 20% of that instrumental version to it), but that is not for public distribution.
